  1. c'mon now... I know I ain't the only one who buys hisself a gift for xmas. Well, the wife and I decided to get a "common" gift...one that we both wanted and both can use so, we went out and bought a new 37" HDTV and a HD satellite receiver (we already have satellite TV). WOW! ... what a difference and, what a learning experience we went through before we settled on a specific TV brand/model. Then came the fun and games connecting everything (Satellite receiver, DVD player, Stereo system...) ... thos "sales people" don't tell ya everything and even though they seem knowledgeable, they don't always know everything either. I got the HDMI/DVI cable (coz the sales guy said I should)... but when I hooked it up (tried the s-video first) .... I had no sound! Great picture...no sound. Phoned the satellite tech support ... guy I got said I needed to turn the TV on before the SAT receiver so that a proper "handshake" could be made... well, that didn't work. Then I phoned the store where I bought the stuff... tech guy there wasn't sure why but said try shutting it all off. (I was at work during these calls so couldn't actually do anything). Got home, tried shutting off and starting TV first, then SAT receiver... no sound. Got on the phone with SAT tech again...went from tier one to tier two all the way to tier three support...they even downloaded a manual for the TV... and that's where it is obvious what was needed.... a simple $12 Audio 2-into-one cable that runs the audio from the SAT box to the single RCA/DVI audio jack on the back of the TV. THAT info was not in the paper manual that came with anything and it's obvious none of the tech guys knew what was needed without themselves referring to a "book". This process took over an hour and a half! Well, we're very happy with it now but this whole thing proves a point... the more "high-tech" things become, the more knowledge a person has to absorb and ya sure can't rely on nobody tellin ya simple, clear, layman's instructions no more.
  2. not really... took me all of 30 seconds to find that answer in wiki.answers.com, copy/paste it into my post. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
  3. because a chick starts out in the egg as a little speck of blood clot attached to the yolk and the white and as it develops the phoetus consumes the contents for food until ready to hatch so when the egg is to be eaten by a person there is no chicken growth at all its just food
  4. I hardly ever remember what I got or gave the xmas past or birthday past but it never fails that I get caught when she says "you mean you don't remember getting me that...."!!! However, I do remember getting my own pool que a few years back. I remember this for two reasons... the first is because I always wanted one and the second is because I will never forget that Bi#ch I was living with at the time that gave it to me! Dang but that que works good....I sure love to break the rack with it coz I think about her when I do!

  6. Dang that wud be fun!!! We don't get a lot of snow around here (at least not at this sea level altitude) but we got some a week ago so here's what we did..... dang!!!... I got so wrapped up in the fun of it, I almost ruined the chili by overcookin it that day! The next day it warmed up and all the snow was gone and Mr Snowman was nuthin but a lump of wet snow on the ground, his hair, eyes, nose, and coat buttons just layin there in the grass...

  11. The lookin is over...I found a really nice 1990 Dakota "Sport" ... a real "cream puff" coz it's been in the original family since new. First the father owned it, then he sold it to his daughter and her hubby. It was a local commuter for the daughter. Only 130,000 Kms which is nothin for a 17 yr old truck. Here's the guy's ad... _______________________________________________________ 1990 Dodge Dakota Club Cab Sport 3.9 litre, Automatic Overdrive V6 engine. Locally owned (B.C.) 130,400 original kms. New Michelin LTX tires, Monroe Sensatrac shocks, radiator, Raybestos brakes, calipers, drums & rotors. Leer Canopy with sliding windows included. Trailer hitch towing package. Features: Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Alpine C.D. player, Flip up rear seats with storage compartment, Sport floor in box, Sliding rear window, fog lights, full size spare tire. Well maintained, all receipts on file and Air Care. _________________________________________________________ Now, I spent a lot more than I wanted to but frankly, there was absolutely nothing out there even close for the same kinda bucks and anything that was less money was junk also. I figgure I got a decent deal on this baby. Thanks for all the input ya'll Here's a few pics ...
  12. Of course... that's the imported beer from the USA!

    Just Sold It !!

well, you'll never have to worry about him bringing it back if something goes wrong! ... but that never was a concern anyway.... it's a 1st gen! How does he go about crating and shipping it?
  15. Thanks Margaret ..... most of what I am looking at is around 1992-1995 and to be honest, I'm really hoping to find a really nice Dakota extended cab with the V8 in it. Even a high miler as long as it's been looked after and most major compnents that would fail have been done already...if the price is right, I'd go for it.
  16. That '72 Chev is gorgeous....I've always wanted one of those and also a 64 Chev p/u and that reminds me...I forgot about one truck I had and it was the coolest "sleeper" there ever was.... it was a plain jane '61 Chev p/u, long box...light green (faded). But it had a '64 Olds 394 (I think) engine and hydra-matic 4 speed auto (I think that's what it was). Dang could that thing FLY! and talk about smoke the rubber or what!! And as I think about it... my memory is comin back even more coz I remember having a 63 or 63 Ford...one of them integrated cab/box shorty's and when I had my body shop, I had a 66 Merc with a 352 in it that I fixed all up and sold, not to mention the 55 Ford that I bought after a guy rolled it and then I rebuilt it and sold it. I forget about some of these vehicles coz I've had so danged many over the years and those three I never really drove...just fixed up and sold. I should post some pics of the 66 Merc... it went from a beat up farm truck to a cool custom and also the 55 Ford.
  17. Thanks Erns... I'd done that already and got a lot of info.
  18. Thanks again for all the feedback guys. I took the truck for a drive and although she looks nice, the thing is a piece of crap mechanically. It's very "loose" suspension/steering wise... has a lot of shakes and rattles...vibrations, clunks, moans and groans LOL... and the alternator is shot more or less... I suspected this just from talking to the guy when I first looked at it yesterday. However, I'm not ruling out Fords just from that.
  19. whoaahhhhh horsies!!!... hehe not quite yet .... thinkin about it is all.
  20. I ain't dead set on anything in particular; however, I do favour Dodge Dakota. Thanks for the feedback so far guys... mucho appreciated!
  21. Well, let's see... @ $1.10 /Litre, that works out to around $4.99 /gal now. Yes, gas is expensive and since we're going from a fairly new 4cyl car to a truck, we'll really notice the difference; however, needs have changed so gotta take the cons in stride. One plus to that and that is we don't put may miles on a vehicle. The car has just over 31,000 Kms and it's 4 years old. Our goal is to get a good truck that will be more useful than a small car and have no monthly payment. We want to get rid of as much "debt" as we can so that we can get a new motorcycle soon. We'd much rather be making payments on that than a new or fairly new car or truck. The car is leased and the lease ends next month. We're buying out the lease with the plan to sell the car and make a few bucks. Take that plus some reserve cash and buy an older truck. Well, I ain't sold on that Ford yet... still gotta take it for a drive and do some of my own checking out of things. I have a list going...gonna take my mechanic's stethescope along with me... ya can diagnose a lot with one of those things.
  22. I've had so many vehicles in my life, it would be difficult to count. As for trucks, not so many. Let's see... '76 Ford F100, '78 Ford F100, '86 Mazda B2000, '89 Toyota SR5, '86 Dodge D150, '94 Dodge Dakota 4x4. My problem with vehicles is I'd never keep them long enuf to notice any problem "trends". Since I pulled wrenches for a number of years in my youth and had a flair for bodywork, most things that went wrong, I fixed myself. Never had serious engine problems on any vehicle and only once had a tranny go out and that was on my Dakota. Well, I had it for 5 years...that was the longest I owned any vehcle...and I loved that truck. Next to that, my '86 Dodge I had as a "second" vehicle...kept it for 3 years... never failed me.
  23. hey Kit, thanks for your constructive input. Now, as for what you said about vehicles....
  24. Most trucks do...are these any worse than other similar trucks?
  25. Do you need a new battery too? some folks really dislike one make of vehicle or another generally because of some bad experiences. If you have good or bad input on this specific year/model, I would greatly appreciate it.
