  1. hmmmmm... some of these responses give me ideas.....
  2. one could then say that the V8 engine is archaic .... Archaic it may be but obviously it is withstanding the test of time and similar to the V8 "vehicle" engine, the Harley engine has seen modern improvements such as the move from carburated to fuel injection (for example). Not knocking the Yammi V4 nor the RSV but what has changed since it's inception?... absolutely nothing (excluding the new Vmax motor). What has changed/improved in the Harley comparative model in the last 11 years ... a lot! ....just thought I'd throw some more "musings" into the pot for the halibut.
  3. Correct ... I used to spray the inside of a distributor and all the plug wires with WD40 years ago when I used to do a lot of engine steam cleaning.
  4. Don't like the looks of the fairing... way too forward... looks like an "after thought" that went wrong. Now gimme the Ultra any day.
  5. We are heading out Saturday morning to Kelowna via Manning Park, Keremeous, and Penticton. Stopping over at brother-in-law's place and meeting up with other bro-in-law from Pr. George who rides a Wing. Sunday we're heading over to Nakusp via Needles ferry, then up to Revelstoke. Probably stay overnight in either Sicamous or Salmon Arm. Monday we'll be heading thru Kamloops, Lillooet, Pemberton, Whistler and back home. Hoping for nicer weather than we had in Nelson!
  6. heh... almost looks like the open mouth of a shark after a viscious feeding frenzy!! well, you're lucky that's all that happened, especially after so many years. Hope it heals well. Kindof a good reminder to the rest of us who like to play with such machinery to be always "on guard".
  7. About 15 years ago I spent over $5,000 on tools, etc at Can Tire. Had to sell everything in divorce settlement .... heck, I'm going down to Can Tire tonight and get my tools back!!! just kidding of course but WOW ... that's pretty good!
  8. I've tried almost every synthetic recommended....didn't like any of them. Went to Castrol 10w40 .... it was ok. Then I tried the Rotella T6 (which I hadn't tried yet) ... gawd... noisier engine, louder whine .... but it did shift smoother. Dumped that and went to the "white jug" Rotella 15w40 (which I'd ran before) .... engine is quiet again and the clutch whine is back to tolerable. Even Nina noticed the difference. No more synthetic for me.
  9. Thanks! Well, we were "told" it was a Campbells soup commercial but ....
  10. lookin fwd to that!

    Cooler Rack

'nuther dumb question ... how does the bike handle with that extra weight (when loaded) on the back like that?? oh, and don't you have to be concerned about the extra overhang when backing up??

    Cooler Rack

Well I guess I'd better run a ground wire ... Silly me... I wasn't thinking.
  13. I don't necessarilly agree with that statement. I haven't read this entire thread....yet, so don't know what's been said; however, IMHO the metrics put a lot of research into developing "what their customers want". The problem is, their "money market" is not in big highways cruisers like the RSV, nor is it in many of their "cruiser" line. They focus on their ATV and PWC and Sport Bike markets. That is where they make the big bucks. :witch_brew: This is just my opinion.

    Cooler Rack

Isn't the thing self-grounded to the bike?

    Cooler Rack

Not meaning to be negative about your (and other's) fine cooler racks but it would seem to me that they would be illegal because they obstruct the view of the lic plate. Now, if you were to mount the lic plate on the back of the cooler rack..... oh yeah, and don't forget about that lic plate light (also a requirement by law I believe) Just curious ... I noticed your wiring connector has 5 wires yet I thought we only needed 4 ... am I misinformed or ???
  16. thanks Rocket... it has now just dawned on me why Nina ALWAYS wears her sunglasses (even when it's cloudy out!)
  17. When I tried to watch that, it says "Embedding disabled by request - watch on YouTube" .... any ideas what that's all about??
  18. good one Rick... "mug" ... "soup" .... spoon anyone?
  19. that's because Nina isn't your wife .... she's MINE :rasberry: (I figgure she had a lot more to do with us getting this gig than me)
  20. Let me ask my agent if I can do that.....
  21. By the time we got to the 3rd shoot location and started to film, it was around 2:30 and the sun was out. This was way down the far end of the Delta and generally the sun comes out there before the mountains.
  22. A couple weeks ago we were at a show 'n shine car show and were approached by an agent for a production company to try out for a commercial. They were looking for a couple between 25 & 65 who ride motorcycle. He took some pics and video of Nina & I and about 2 days later we got a call for a screening. Did that and 2 days later we got a call that we were the "chosen ones". Turns out they'd looked at about 1,000 people! Yesterday was the shooting day. We had to be on set at 5:30AM but it took us an hour to get there, with at least 25 minutes of it on a single lane gravel road taking us way back into the boonies to a government campground. Had no idea what to expect but WOW... this was a major production. Must have been 100 or more crew there, production equipment and trucks all over the place, and a large catering truck with full breakfast all ready. Weather was cloudy and cool and by the time we arrived, the bike (and us) was totally covered with dust from the road. Speaking of which, I am amazed that we never dumped the bike... it was a lot of loose gravel, hilly, lots of curves, and washboardy, not to mention that we were in the dark and a bit behind other vehicles so the dust made it real hard to see. There were 3 shoot locations and nobody seemed to know exactly when or where "our part" came in so it was a "hurry up and wait" .... finally, around 11AM we were instructed to go to the next shoot location where they'd be filming us. Once there, they had us ride the bike down a long straight road (paved at least) while the filming truck ran alongside. We had to fall back, speed up, stay beside, and act as we would normally be while riding. We did this a couple times and then they had us follow the filming truck... riding up very close to the back, falling way back and speeding up real close to it again...then they'd pull over to the other lane and we'd speed past them...fall back ... speed past again... it was quite the experience! After that we went to the 3rd shooting location and did a bunch of "parked" filming. I was sitting on the bike and Nina would grab the helmets from the trunk, bring them over to me, we'd don the helmets, gloves and then she'd get on the bike. Did that scene about 6 or 8 times varying how we did it. It was a pretty "cool" experience and we finished up around 4:15PM and finally got home around 5PM, totally tired out. Got a few pics but haven't dumped them off the camera yet so will post them later. So, some day, when you least expect it, you just may see us and our RSMV on a Campbell's Soup commercial!!
  23. we're too wrapped up in details... speedo error, fuel mileage, clutch basket whine, shock air pressure, tire air pressure, tire type/brand/mgf date, engine temp, brake squeal, rear drive lube, oil brand/weight, etc, etc.... how could we possibly have time to ride? It's no wonder there's so many low mileage bikes ...
  24. Congrats!!! Number 21 for you and just over 3 weeks ago it was number 1 for me! I doubt I will ever get even close to your record!
