I made my own levelling links although you can purchase them pre-made. For me, it made a world of difference in both low speed handling as well as crankin thru the twisties. Another thing that will greatly improve handling is tires. Avon Venom or Dunlop E3 are the way to go IMHO. The stock tires are crap. BTW, in case you didn't know, I had an '06 Midnight for 3 years prior to getting this Wing a month ago.

I found that the top edge of my stock windshield was right in my line of sight and I either had to stretch my neck and/or sit up straighter to look over it or slouch down a lot to look thru it. Was a real PITA so I decided to cut it down 2 inches. Here's a "blow-by-blow" pics for anyone interested in the process. http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/2003%20Gold%20Wing/Cutting%20Down%20the%20Windshield/ You can also refer to this thread for additional info... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1063

Couple other things to keep in mind.... it is preferable that the trunk rack has, if not on the top, an underneath metal brace that runs from the forward mount point to the rear. Take note of the angle that the screws go into the bottom of the rack and try and angle your holes the same direction otherwise you may find you'll have to drill the holes bigger to get the screws in. -

Masking tape on both sides. Use a sharp drill bit and drill slowly and don't apply much pressure. Actually, not too slow... with a variable speed drill, I'd say appx 1/4 - 1/3 of the rpm. measure 3 times, then test again and then drill. FYI, the ABS plastic is relatively soft and not brittle as you might find on a windshield so it's not as prone to cracking when drilling it. At least that's my feelings and experience. -

For a clearer understanding on how screwed up and frustrating this all can get.... First of all, the package was delivered to my home. I used that address as I wasn't expecting any charges so, they could have just left it in the mail box. A delivery attempt was made 3 days ago (Tuesday). Of course, they couldn't leave it because the driver was to pick up a cheque for $35.71 for brokerage fees. Meanwhile, I'd tried to change the delivery location to my work but you can't do that until after the first delivery attempt is made because you need to give them the "InfoNotice" number which is left by the delivery driver. Once I got the InfoNotice, I then realized that they wanted $35.71 so I first contacted the sender who in turn contacted UPS and had revised shipping info faxed to UPS (exactly where I don't know). This is now Wednesday. I call and make the change to the delivery location so it comes to my work. Later in the day I call UPS to find out if they've received the revised paperwork. Oh yes, we have it all and it's all in order. I am assured that I will only need a cheque for $15 to give to the delivery driver (as that is the fee for re-processing the documentation). So, I get home at the end of the day (again, this is Wednesday) to find that the driver has been there twice (2 InfoNotices on my door) .... DUH!!! just a bit of communication lag here.... Thursday, at work, the package shows up and I'm asked to pay $35.71. Of course I refused and tried to explain to the driver (who couldn't speak fluent engrish) ... he tried to make a call but couldn't get any thing cleared up so he left...with the package. I then went and called UPS again and this time I'm told that the paperwork had not yet been processed to the local delivery point. Geeesh!!! I'm told it will be done by the following day. Today (Friday) I go online to check the status and find that they've marked it as "Receiver has requested that package be held for pickup at UPS location" .... WHAT??? I never asked them to do that!! So, back on the phone again ... it's those phone calls and menu trees that really get a man's dander up to begin with!!! I finally, after explaining the whole situation once again, get put thru to UPS's borkerage department. Then I'm told that the paperwork was received by their processing department on the 19th (Wednesday) for re-processing but had not yet been re-processed and sent off to the local UPS location. "Re-processing" is the reversal of the brokerage fees and invoicing for $15 for that. The person I spoke to this time at least had a name I could pronounce and spoke much the same as me and he was able to give me "the whole story" and has sent a memo to the document processing people to "get this done asap" as really, it should have been done on the 19th when they received the initial revised shipping info. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!! Hopefully I will finally have this thing in my hands come Tuesday of next week. Point being here is to show how screwed up some things that should be simple can get. Moreover, when dealing with such a large organization, it isn't a matter of a simple phone call to ONE person ... the frustration of dealing with these phone trees alone is almost not worth it. After listening to 2 "trees" and getting to #5, I then had to sit there and wait while the "voice" told me all about the numerous ways I "might" be able to resolve things on-line before I actually got to speak with anyone. (thanks for letting me vent... but I had to, to someone) -
I see in that first link they show a picture of a Goldwing for a Venture! LOL

I could re-post the post that was deleted and tell eveyone about it, but then it would get deleted and I'd have to say "I'm sorry, but my post was deleted" and then I'd get accused of teasing again ... geeesh ... a guy just can't win nohow!

DUTY ... isn't that a thing of the past? I don't recall any such thing as "DUTY" on anything I've brought across the border over the past several years. Heck, even if you go state-side and buy a bunch of stuff, they don't seem to care if you're over the limit. What exactly is DUTY? -
geeez Brian... you're doing it too!
-
I would say that is definately in BC due to the terrain but not sure where although my first thought was Penticton but I think there are too many trees for it to be there. I haven't been to one of those tracks for ages!

I do have a drop point in Blaine, WA which only costs me $5 per pickup so that gets around the cross-border shipping problem (and cost) but sometimes it's more convenient to pay the shipping cost when it isn't too much. In this case, it would normally have only meant an extra $10 and I'd burn that much gas going to Blaine & back so why bother. As it turns out, UPS has now reversed the brokerage fees (the guy had the paperwork adjusted to "gift") and all I'm now having to pay is $15 for document processing fees. I can live with that. -
That would depend on the availability of good corn that time of year.

... to rectify a situation. Kudos to the sender of my package! He has discussed the issue with UPS (remember, they told him there would be no additional fees) and he is arranging with them to reverse the brokerage fees. A great big THANK YOU!!! -
I would think so ... sure gonna try this at the first opportunity.

Seeing as this guy apologized for not following my request, that he is not a "vendor", and that the total cost now to me is still a bit under what a new one would have been, I'm paying the extra fees but I will certainly be using your method in future. -

I had asked the sender to NOT ship via UPS but to use USPS; however, he was in a rush as he was heading off for 2 week holiday and UPS was more convenient for him. -
DO NOT ship by UPS ALWAYS ship via USPS (United States Postal Service) The reason's are: 1. UPS rates are generally higher 2. If sent by UPS ground, it generally takes longer 3. If the value is over $20, we get dinged brokerage fees when we receive the package as well as tax on the value. 4. If you can't be home when the package arrives, you have to wait for the 1st delivery attempt and then either go out of your way to their location to get it or have the delivery location changed. The latter cannot be done until AFTER a 1st deliver attempt is made. If you send via USPS, none of this applys. Why do I post this? Because I bought an item off a member on another forum for $65 + $15 for shipping and got dinged $35.71 after the fact for brokerage fees ... add that up and it's really not worth the purchase. What's worse is that UPS assured the sender that there would be NO ADDITIONAL fees. I f****n HATE UPS coz they have done this to me before.
