  1. Hey I gotta compete with Ventureous' Grape! Jeff...You & Squidley have a way of phrasing things that just sound wrong! LMAO!!! Now how the hell am I supposed to ask how much you want for your tongue???
  2. The paint I'm not too concerned with, I plan on repainting my blonde green (like my 750) & I'll be matching the trailer & carrier box to match. I have found that like gun laser sights green is more visible to the human eye that red. Hell I even have a green HID headlight! I appreciate the help. I'll LYK about the tough once I build & test run it. Thanks!
  3. A lot of GREAT info here. I had read a few of them online but not the tongue extention. Is this something that is essential? I have a Swivel hitch on order. It just makes sense to allow the bike to lean & the trailer not to try. The OEM tongue, did you just replace the OEM with a longer piece of square stock or weld in extra. I may take you up on the extra piece, I'll have to open the boxes & look at the build. I want to keep the weight down so I will probably stick weld it. I'll keep a floor around just in case I need a trailer to haul dirt & such. I will be doing that as well, I have this small storage box that I want to use to stow an extra gallon of gas & a tiny 800w generator. During the winter I will pick up a 6 person tent among other things for outings. As far as a spare, I usually carry a can of fix a flat so have you or dacheeda found carrying a spare essential? Again looking at weight.
  4. Brian, Definitely buy this as a replacement. I just got the backrest pad today. Installed it in 10 minutes. IDK if the MK2 differs from the mk1, On my OEM backrest the pad is riveted on to the support. I had to drill the rivet heads off with a 1/4 drill bit. I measured the back of the new panel & got the centerpoint. Marked the screwholes with a silver sharpie & attached the pad. Fits like a glove. Here's a picture.
  5. Squidley, just picked it up. Any advice or mods to assembly? I know some HF trailers have extra axle springs (I don't think this does) that some do not install. Any heads up woiuld be appreciated! Andy
  6. Exactly my thought. I have a Karrite Explorer cartop carrier for it. It's 54" L x 38" W x 18" H with an 18 cu ft capacity http://www.lakelandgear.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/karrite4.jpg
  7. I saw the Tag along but want to conserve some coin as I have build material. So as a base this HF trailer would do fine? Just checking before I pick this up. http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-accessories/870-lb-capacity-40-inch-x-49-inch-heavy-duty-utility-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-42708.html http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_18027.jpg

  9. On the bright side when you ride the other bikes they will feel real light. I also have an 81 CB750, after owning the VR for 9 months the 750 now feels like a dirtbike.
  10. At riding speed they are agile, fast & nimble BUT At lower speeds they are difficult, cumbersome, heavy, & definitely needing skill. Basically this picture describes it. http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01752/elephant-tightrope_1752802i.jpg Yet it's going to be the bike you will love the most!
  11. It's easy to see how some discussions can get out of control due to different philosophcal views Some take a more proactive approach. Yes, I agree the police are only a cell call away, but by then you may be asking for an ambulance not protection. Self protection is not "taking the law into your own hands". That's like saying performing CPR is practicing medicine without a license. Why learn CPR when EMS is only a call away. It's all in how you view it. I live on the philosophy of "to each his own". There are many places where carry is forbiden, I do feel safe in general, I go to Canada & NYC a lot; but then I do have extensive martial arts training. Personally, I hate carrying, & I really have no desire to take a life...but I have no desire to give mine or my family's life up.
  12. I agree absolutely Mike, the comment Donny was making was: That's the concern, defending yourself against a violent attack from a criminal.
  13. In Canada, you basically have no choice (or gun rights) When I lived in NYC, I had no choice either. I was lucky that I was never a victim. Since I moved, I carry. It's not about feeling safe, it's about being prepared. In the same light as I would never drive without a spare tire in my car. I've never used my spare and I hope I never do; but in case of a flat I have a a remedy. Things are not that bad if you are aware of your surroundings, but occasionally there is the nut job, wannabe gangster or desperate drug addict that uses violence to further their agenda. I hope I am fortunate enough to NEVER have to unholster my weapon, but it is a fact of life that the police cannot be everywhere to protect people.
  14. Then GET ONE! A hand gun & a CCW is a good tool to have when riding... provided you follow all the reciprocal laws. It's kinda like an adult diaper, no one has to know your wearing one, until Sh*t Happens!

  16. Tom, As an 2 pack a day ex smoker (18 years now) I know it isn't easy. The one thing you have to follow is this: No matter what NEVER take the 1st drag again. Oh that 1st cigarette will taste like hell, but the second...Oh the second tastes so much better! You never really lose the urge, especially with a beer or coffee in hand, but you shrug it off. On a brighter note, just think of all the extra coin you'll have for your bike!! Good luck!
  17. Brian found this on Ebay $32. shipped. I ordered one myself. It's an inexpensive alternative to reupholstering the OEM pad. Here's the link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230709042435?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  18. This happened right here in our backyard. The ONLY medea that reported it locally was the Virginia Pilot a news paper. None of the TV stations reported ANYTHING.
  19. I want to run this by here to see what you guys think. The driver's backrest on my 84 is shot. Cracked & dry. I want to replace it, but of course replacements are not found. I found this reasonable alternative. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Universal-11-x8-1-2-New-Contour-Backrest-Back-Rest-Sissy-bar-Pad-/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/$(KGrHqYOKj!E5W9!lpC!BObp,IEjVw~~60_12.JPG It's got a wooden plate backing, removable vinyl cushion cover. 3" thickness on the sides and 1 1/2" thickness on the middle Size 11"x 8 1/2" for $32 shipped. I see the OEM one is 11 1/2" x 6 1/2" & the support is riveted in on the back(should be easy enough to get off) Does anyone see any potential issues that I am missing? It looks doable, & the price is cheaper that having the original recovered.
