  1. Definitely check the dates on the tires. They may look good but may be past their useful life. Jake Wilson is a good place to get replacements at a fair price. Our friends from Perth will be in Salt Lake in early August. There is always room for more if you want to stop by. Look up Aussie Annie on the forum.
  2. I read this yesterday. It was interesting. I have never had the chance to try a Valkerie and I wondered if the riders/writers understood how to ride the RSTD?
  3. Our circumstances have changed here and we will not be able to join this year's Rally. I was looking forward to it as I have family from Wisconsin. We have a room at Hickory Hill and wanted to let you know here in case some one would like to take the room. Dave
  4. The 89 Blue Beastie is going to stretch her legs tonight going up to Phoenix! Good luck with the diagnosis. The Blue Beastie is going to enjoy the run!!
  5. Buy two and some locktite!
  6. Looking forward to seeing you again!!
  7. If you have time, Dead Horse Point State Park is a good visit too. It's near Canyonlands and Arches. Another suggestion would be to go a little south out of Panguitch past Bryce National Park (a short visit) and then through Boulder, Utah past the Lower Calf Creek Falls (if you want to hike) and ride up over the Hogs Back and then head up towards Torrey.
  8. If you decide to come north a little further to Salt Lake City, I bet we can even find a real bed, some food and a shower. Dave
  9. Sad news. Thank you for letting us know. Praying for Russell.
  10. I had a similar situation on bolt on a car caliper. My neighbor (mechanic) flattened two sides out with a file and used an open end wrench to remove.
  11. This screen as on my '99 when I bought it. I prefer a larger screen. This one is available and could be cut down.
  12. I'm glad the tank vent is clear. I haven't re-read the thread but have you sync'd the carbs since the rebuild? Also checking that none of the vacuum ports are plugged and that the caps or tube are good.
  13. We also have our reservation at the Hickory Hills Motel!
  14. So did Pikachu win?
  15. That is a great looking ride!! Thanks for the post. Any of the rides planning to go to the Wisconsin Dells?
  16. Jack, have a wonderfully, Merry Christmas from the Harris'
  17. So great to hear an update from Ponch. He and his wife are so special and Jan and I enjoyed getting to associate and get to know them at Cody. Thanks Don for sharing.....he looks good! Dave
  18. We've had a great time rubbing elbows and riding with you Jack but understand that the time will come for us all. Put me on the list for 7 of 9! I loved that show. I'll start to work on talking Jan into it. Dave
  19. Brenda I don't have either of the helmets you listed but I do have a helmet with the SENA bluetooth system (SMH-10). When I ride and don't need the CB etc, I use it and have access to my music on the Iphone as well as navigation tools. I enjoy the functionality and the sound. They also work well between you and a passenger or riding buddy on their own bike. When we go in a group and need the CB I usually use a wired helmet but also have the option to use the dongle made by Bob Myers. It works well but you lose the stereo part of the music. With the wired helmet, you can still connect the Iphone for music and navigation through the AUX port on the RSV. You do however, lose the ability to make or receive calls (these are that great going down the freeway). With the dongle you have to get the connector from Bob and purchase an additional SENA main unit. Best of luck!! Dave
  20. WE are so grateful for the wonderful friends we have here. have a fantastic Thanksgiving!!
  21. There a lot of good roads around Southern Utah, including Zions National Park and Cedar Breaks National Park. Dave
  22. VR West could be held in St. George, Ut....Moab, Ut....Cortez, Co!! All have great potential. Dave
  23. Wiz The system putting 17v across the battery is never a good thing. It may have damaged the battery depending on how long it has been that high. The regulator is designed to shunt excess electricity to ground. After a start, the battery may need 13.8 to get the battery up to full level and then would drop to 13.2 after that. A resting battery should be 12.6 when full charged but will show up to 13.2 or so while charging. Hope that makes sense. Dave
  24. Tony- Full charge for a battery is 12.6 volts (2.1 volts for each of the 6 cells). Anything over 12.6 is a temp charge overage that will bleed off. The internal trigger on your trickle charge will potential be based on the amperage passing through the charger rather than the voltage in the battery. Your new battery could be allowing the electricity to flow creating an temp overcharge battery condition and shouldn't cause any alarm because the green light doesn't light up right away. If your old battery was having trouble charging, it may have been causing the green light to light prematurely. Sounds like the new battery has resolved your issue and the trip should be great. My new stator puts out 13.5 volts at idle and moves up to 13.8 at higher rpm. Not sure why yours is at 14.0 volts, but could be a momentary spike to top off the battery after the startup. Just to be safe, I've put an Anti-Gravity (Micro-Start XP-1) battery in my saddle bag. When my stator went out, it jumped the bike and allowed me to get back home (only a mile). Well worth the investment. Have a great trip!! Dave
