lift adapter issue
M61A1MECH replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine had tabs on the front that sort of trapped the frame, mine was always hard to get the last hole lined up also, bought it used so do not know if the PO had adjusted it. You may want to look at the tabs on the bike that the rod goes thru, sometimes those are bent slightly and need slight adjustments, on mine I always had to get it as close as I could and then grab the rod and muscle the end of the rod to align it to the hole. At first it was a little tricky, but as the years went on it got easier to do. If I still had my Venture I would go look at it and try to help a bit more , but it is gone. -
Never heard of anyone going that way, I would suggest measuring the area where the speedo cluster fits to see if there is room for it it set in between the Venture bars upright portion. That is where you will run into problems.

M61A1MECH replied to Chaharly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here you go Petroleum-based solvents used in degreasing have varying degrees of toxicity. The following are some of the common spent halogenated and non-halogenated solvents used in degreasing operations that are considered hazardous: •1,1,1-trichloroethane •Acetone • Benzene •Carbon tetrachloride •Chlorinated fluorocarbons •Isobutanol •Low flash point mineral spirits •Methanol •Methylene chloride •Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) •Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) •Ortho-dichlorobenzene •Tetracholoroethylene •Toluene •Trichloroflueoromethane • Xylene -
getting rid of lower fairing

There is a small round cover on the right side of the motor towards the front, I believe it has YAMAHA embossed on it. The water pump is behind that. There is no need to open the water pump during coolant change, only need to pull the drain plug on the water pump. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the water housing when you pull that you will find some additional coolant in there. It is very hard to remove that plug with the exhaust in place.

About 8AM this morning I was booking down a state road that borders the south edge of the Ocala national forest, doing about 60MPH, it was a little chilly so I had the heated grips on, I decided to adjust the setting. Took my eyes off the rod for about 2 seconds to find the adjuster wheel, bike drifted slightly right, and looked back up and there was a brown blur coming out of the woods on my right. It took about 2 micro seconds for me to focus and realize it was a good size deer right in front of me , bolting across the road. I had just enough time to get off the throttle, hit the front brakes and dive to the right just a bit. For what seemed an enterniity the deer and I locked eyes, I could see that he knew it was all over but the shouting and I am sure he saw the same look in my my eyes. Other than divine intervention I have no idea why I did not hit him square in the rear quarter. It was so close that some part of him, I suspect a hoof, tapped the toe of my left boot and another part , probaly the other hoof tapped some plastic panel on the Goldwing. I know he contacted the bike beause, I heard it hit behind me and felt the shock wave come thru the bike. I looked in the rear view mirror expecting to see a deer down on the road, but nothing just thin air, was able to get it all stopped and to the apron in short order. Could not find any evidence of where he struck the bike. Continued down the road to where I could find a parking lot to do a more complete check, still nothing. Thing is I was looking for bears to be out on the road this morning so I had been looking for them, never have seen a deer on that road in the last 19 years I have been riding it, you better know I will looking for them the next time I on that road. Both of our lucky or maybe better said Blessed day! Everyone that is still riding , becareful out there .

Agreed the numbers are different, the 3 code identifier, first 3 numbers is for the bike model they are different, but the main body of the number 22210 is the same, the remaining 4 digits I believe refer to revision numbers, the 06 version of the Venture shock is an 01, because it is revised from the original design from 1999. All of that said, the TD and the Venture are essentially identical when it comes to the frame and the power plant / transmission, so I would say yes they are interchangeable, the pictures look the same in the ilustrated parts break down. If the one if free what do you have to lose, if you get the one out and it does not match the free one, give it back and buy one that fits.

Nope, there are to many others already doing Goldwing plug and plays for much cheaper than I can do them. Shoot I cannot even by the parts for less than what some folks are selling completed assemblies for, I need to find out where they getting their parts.

Get a torque wrench in inch pounds where the value you want to use it at is in the middle 1/3 of it's range, do not use a torque wrench in the lower or upper 1/3 of it's range, they start to lose accuracy as you get towards the uper and lower extremes of the range.

The top hole is a drain for the well the spark plug resides in, the only thing that should leak out of that is water that gets in there when washing or riding in the rain. If you have green coolant leaking out of that hole you have a bad hose, gasket or radiator cap, all of which reside some where above the head and a leak from them could find their way to that well. Pull the tank and look for a leak above the head, you can dust the suspect areas with talcum powder and that will show the wetness very quickly and should help to identify the source of the leak.

Had a similar thing happen on my 07 when i switched to K&Ns and opened up the air boxes, I shimmed out the slider needles and it was better, I eventually went back to a stock set of air boxes with the K&Ns, all was good after that.

The photo for the Royal Star 1996 to 2001 is not correct, the photo is of a later model Venture based Tour DeLuxe that was only made from 2005 to 2010. if you need a photo of say a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic I have some , just tell me you to send them to.

Don, On the lower command bar (below the one that has "What's New" on the left hand side, the command button just below that has double text in it making it hard to read, at one point it read "New Posts". Also in the classifieds every time you do an edit on a listing , it unselects the postage setting check box.
