Freebird, maybe I am confused, since I do not have the Venture any more to check, on my 98 royal I needed both a flat and Philips, so I have a long one of each. I was thinking I only used one type on the venture, guess I remembered wrong, either way the longest thinnest shank you can find in the correct configuration is what you need.

Me too, I bought the longest flat blade screwdriver that Craftsman sells, just wish it had a light at the end of it, cause it is dark in there sometimes. If I still had my Venture, I would fit a flat LED to the drivers shaft, something like this, https://www.oznium.com/12v-motorcycle-led-light-bulbs. I put one of those in my cup holder and they give out a lot of light, see.

Here is something to remember the next time a storm threatens to turn off the power, or you evacuate or just go on vacation and want to see if you lost temp in the freezer. Freeze a coffee cup full of water, place a quarter on top of the ice in the cup. When you return or have a chance to check the freezer, check out where the quarter is. If it is still on the top of the ice, then your freezer maintained temp and did not thaw out. If it is half way through the cup of ice then you lost temp for a period of time and chances are the food is probably still good. if the quarter is on the bottom of the cup, then your freezer thawed out and the ice melted. throw out your food.

If memory serves me well, the stratoliner/roadlinner were in the same boat when they first came out, only rear tire you could get in the correct size was the OEM stock tire. Not sure if is the same tire as the new Venture or not, but I pretty sure that eventually other manufacturers started making tires for the stratoliner/roadliner, there may be hope, but could take a while.

Just talked to Dion AKA djh3, he is fine, just no power, no internet and cell service is spotty. He and his wife are fine, house took a little hit, but nothing major.

I have not heard from him on this site or Delphi since the storm. Many with out power down here including me, I have a generator, but most of yesterday was without internet, he may be in similar shape.

OK storm is gone and continues to head north, everything is fine, a few limbs down, no power. Generator is on, boards are off the windows. Hope everyone else in Florida is OK.

Elizabethton and Roan Mountain are nice small towns, we have spent time volunteering at a ministry there a few times. We have talked about moving up that way from time to time.

Be careful over there, she just made landfall in Marco Island and she is now moving at 12 MPH north, watch out for downed power lines and such when it is gone, people get hurt during clean up also.

All battened down here on the east coast, everything loose is inside and all the windows are boarded up. Got gas for the generator, gas for the grill and food, we are all set to be bored for the few days. Clean up is always the worst part. At last check with Barry , he was good, also battened down and ready to wait it out. Will report when it is over, we will be here, Florida is not going any place.

The stock cover is a black rubber flap, but Yamaha did offer a chrome plate to cover that area.

The symptoms you described in your initial post are nearly identical to what happened to me with my 07 Venture, fortunately I was at home and the bike in the garage when it happened. Wife noticed a bubbling type noise, that I initially blew off as the radiator blowing of into the overflow bottle. Quickly recognized it as some more ominous, pulled the seal and there was the battery making noise and so hot I could not touch it. Afraid it could blow up I grabbed some gloves and tried to pull the battery. It had swollen up and wedged into the plastic tub it sets in I had to remove the battery and tub as a unit. Finally got the two separated and took the battery back to Batteries Plus when I got a new one, the clerk said I was lucky it did not blow up. Turns out the rectifier / regulator was bad and over charged the battery. My vote is that you have a bad rectifier / regulator. Good luck getting home.

The pump works by energizing a coil that pulls a piston in once it hits bottom the coil de-energizes and a spring either pulls or pushes the piston back to the starting location and the coil is energized again, repeating the cycle. The power to the coil is turned off and on either by a set of points that open and close that make the circuit complete or by an SCR or SSR(Solid State Relay) which is is essentially just a heavy duty transistor, the transistor gate is opened or closed by application of voltage to the proper leg this allows it to act like a mechanical relay to allow voltage thru or open and stop voltage, same as the points but no moving parts to break down or wear out. So a couple of things. Yes there is a fuel filter, actually there are two. Primary one is beside the battery behind the left side cover near the fuel pump area, it is a real pain in the butt to get to and get out, it is mounted with a rubber strap that is secured to a metal bracket. The secondary fuel filter is part of the petcock, if you pull the petcock out of the bottom of the tank you will find it has small cone shaped screens on the inlets. Any or all of them could be plugged. Yes fuel pumps on these bikes go bad and there has been a pretty sizable number of folks that have had issues with them. If this happens again, very carefully remove the gas cap and listen for a sucking or whooshing type noise, that would indicate that the tank vent is plugged, some have had issues with critters crawling up the vent tube and making a nest or getting stuck and die , this will restrict the air getting back into the tank to replace the gas volume removed as the bike is ridden, causes a vacuum and the bike dies of fuel starvation. Easiest way to check for this is to pull the vent line off the pipe on the tank and blow some compressed air through it, then check to see if anything came out. Hope this helps.

Correct. The 4 into 2 systems can be installed on bikes that came from the factory with 4 x 4 pipes, but you would need to buy or make support brackets for the mufflers. On the factory models that had 4 x 2 set ups the muffler cans hang on underside of the saddle bag stays. The mounting brackets for the Venture (99 to 2013) and Tour Deluxe (05 to 2010) are the same, but are different that the 4 x 2 found on original Royal Stars made from 1996 to 2001. I have been told that any year model 4 x 2 will fit on original Royals like your 96 , but I have never tried to fit a newer set to an older style bike. Keep looking I am sure there is a set of factory 4 x 4 pipes somewhere; if not a set of saddlebags, stays and 4 x 2 mufflers from any of the models sporting that set up could be another solution. If you have to pull the header pipes, do be careful, those nuts have been on for a long time and subject to many heat / cool cycles as well as rain and other moisture, they are sure to be well corroded, so apply some good rust penetrating oil before wrenching on them.

Yeah Bob, been about half heartedly following this thread and the original over on the DELPHI forum, pretty sure the last report from DELPHI was that he bypassed the side stand switch and was able ride with out incident, but there are two very similar threads running on this type of issue on the DELPHI forums, so I may be confused, happens way to often now that I am getting up in age.

So my question is, why they are not listing demo rides during Biketoberfest in Daytona? Normally they set up demo rides at the speedway and the last few years also set up at the AIM show in Orlando at the convention center on the same weekend. Both are large events and draw huge crowds, what is up with that?

Do your blinkers also work as tail lights? Many of the after market LED turns are set up with red and amber LEDs so they can be running lights and turn signals. If this is the case they may have tapped into the tail light circuit there in the tail light housing.
