Comp monitor no longer works
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The difference between 158 and 194: 194 has a longer life and slightly higher current draw (0.27 vs 0.24). The LED lights that you put in, draw even less, so no, that didn't 'kill' the CMS. But LED lights are polarity sensitive, ie; they only work when the correct polarity is applied. If you find one that doesn't work, pull it out and rotate the base 180° and reinsert. -

My word! What is hooked to the FORTY amp fuse?!! -
any1 looking for a nice trailer ?
Prairiehammer replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
Yes, there are some cheap prices for those trailers. But, the consensus out in the internet sphere is that the quality is pretty poor. These particular trailers (there are others doing the same thing) are all made in China as knockoffs of American manufacturers. Buyer beware and 'you gets whats ya pay for'. Just saying. -
Comp monitor no longer works
Prairiehammer replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There are no fuses behind the headlight in an unmodified stock Venture. The main fuse panel on top of the battery, an auxiliary fuse block in front of the battery and the CLASS fuse holder are the only fuses on a stock First Gen. To help determine what those four in-line fuses are protecting, pull the fuse from each and determine what doesn't work any longer. (BTW, there are no 'in-line' fuses on a stock Venture, if you exclude the CLASS fuse holder; although it is an 'in-line' fuse holder, it is unlike any in-line fuse holder you would find commercially). -
Biker killed, how fast do you think he was going?
Prairiehammer replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
WoW! Really, really fast! The fuel injector throttle bodies ended up the roof of the house! WoW. -
Apparently, Maybeline has passed the baton. I will take it and run with this:

Conrad, why can you not post up a pic for us to guess? Good find, BTW for the MV Agusta prototype and the Snake Motors Teke Teke.

Yamaha electro tester

Gary, do you suppose this is the correct manual? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/manuel-YAMAHA-SPECIAL-TOOL-and-ELECTRO-TESTER-de-1970-/281084940912?pt=FR_JG_Moto_Manuels&hash=item4171f7d270 -
Yamaha electro tester
Prairiehammer replied to acollaro's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here's a pic of the Yamaha 'Electro Tester'. Just FYI: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EpZKld6dsU4/Tgtv2vPMEyI/AAAAAAAAAF4/Ia-9EF9GanQ/s1600/Picture+010.jpg Primarily it is a spark gap tester. Spark gap testers are available everywhere and for I suspect much less money than from Yamaha. Perhaps those cheaper ones will not be as sophisticated or 'cool' but they will do the same thing. Here's a shot of the instruction graphics inside the lid. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/m0oAAMXQDnpTb-cT/$_57.JPG -
Thanks for continuing to play, Steve. Check this one out and good luck!

Apparently, DNA does not manufacture that particular rear end. They import theirs from China. Paughco makes a trike rear end in the US but it is substantially different from the one Puc's friend has on his Sportster. The Paughco US made one has the specs that Puc cited: "The CNC-machined solid steel gear housing holds US-made Dana 44 spider gears, This is absolutely the strongest trike axle available today. Also featured are automotive-style Timken-type splined wheel hubs ..... extremely strong and designed for severe applications." Here's a pic of the Paughco US made rear end: http://freebirdcustommotorcycles.com/shopfreebird/images/categories/PTA-3paughcoparts.jpg But, perhaps not surprisingly, Paughco also sells an imported trike rear end that is identical to the DNA one (and the one on Puc's project). Paughco Imported differential: http://freebirdcustommotorcycles.com/shopfreebird/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1013_111_1581_1593_1602&products_id=7376 http://freebirdcustommotorcycles.com/shopfreebird/images/categories/AX-2000paughcoparts.jpg What is the brand of the trike conversion package, Scott?

carb diaphragm source
Prairiehammer replied to jimmyenglish's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The Yamaha Virago 535 has the same carbs as the Venture. The V-Max diaphragms are the same as well. I've not dealt with these sellers, but $25 each is about the going rate (aside from Sirius; when they HAVE them in stock), it seems: http://tinyurl.com/pezfpkd -
The clutch spring for the 1986-1993 First Gen and the Second Gen are identical (same part number). But you can get an EBC spring on eBay for half that price.
-
Yes, I realize an open differential is necessary, but my inquiry was based upon the appearance of the rear end 'pumpkin'. It doesn't appear to have a housing large enough to accommodate any spider gears. Are both wheels driven in this rear end? And BTW, Puc did you mean to say the rear end is a DNA, instead of Dana?

Well. It's been 38 hours or so and still no answer? I suppose that means this guess is very difficult or the 'players' have quit playing. On the assumption that the offering is too difficult, I am offering this hint: It is Italian (although, I would have thought that the fact that this bike is RED would have told you guys THAT!)

How to get loose pieces out of a gas tank
Prairiehammer replied to stickhandle2's topic in General Tech Talk
The key word there is 'DRY' (and vapor free). Most all vacuums use a (sparking) universal motor. And the filtered but still vapor laden air is blown by the sparking motor. Be CERTAIN that there is no residual gasoline vapors in the tank before attempting to suck out the debris. -

Well, of course! Since you are in the Great White North, there can be only one brand: Maple Leaf Chewing gum. -
