  1. Looks correct, provided you installed the larger inner diameter seal at the end of the spindle opposite the spring. When you actuate the brake lever, is there a spurt of fluid into the reservoir (a mini geyser)? If not, the little orifice in the bottom of the reservoir may require cleaning. What is the condition of the master cylinder bore? Clean and smooth? No corrosion? The larger ID seal should be at "C" and the smaller ID seal should be at "B".
  2. There are many Yamaha side stand switches of the era that appear to be nearly identical to the switch made for the Venture. The primary difference seems to be the fact that the Venture switch has three wires and contacts, whereas most of the other switches have two contacts/wires. However, many of the switches have a very similar boot. Perhaps you can find a non Venture switch that is very cheap and use just the boot? Such as this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Radian-YX600-side-stand-switch-fits-1986-1990-/111297211105?hash=item19e9d4aae1&vxp=mtr Or this NOS switch? http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-N-O-S-P-N-15A-82566-00-00-SIDE-STAND-SWITCH-XT125-1983-/330881461440?hash=item4d0a126cc0&vxp=mtr
  3. Thank you, Randy for the info. It appears that you may have the last or nearly the last 1986 built. The March 1986 build date is by far the latest I have seen for an '86. My database currently shows no higher serial number for a 1986. Interesting.

  5. The original Yamaha crush washer is aluminum, PN 214-11198-01-00, used on hundreds of models. Having said that, I don't think which oil plug gasket you use is important, as long as it is the correct diameter. I've heard that 14mm drain plug gaskets are available at Honda automobile dealerships for a few cents each. Attached are pics of the 2114-11198-01-00 gasket:
  6. The 90° metal valve stem that came from the factory on the 1989-1993 rear wheels is available from Yamaha. Part number 93900-00016-00. http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-93900-00016-00.html I doubt that Yamaha changed the rear rim hole for the valve stem when they went to 90° stems, so I'll bet the later valve stem will fit your MKIs. EDIT: it appears that 93900-00016-00 has been superseded by 93900-00025-00. Here is a pic of 93900-00025-00.
  7. The Assembly Manual is used by the dealer to prepare the crated Venture for the sales floor. Involves showing the tech how to install the front wheel and fender, the trunk, footpegs, mirrors, etc. I have an assembly manual for a 1990. It would not be worth purchasing an Assembly Manual in your case, because it does not address the main fairing or TCI installation, etc. The pdf of the 1990 Assembly Manual that have is too large to attach in this post, but I have uploaded the Assembly Manual to my Google Drive account Be my guest. My Google Drive account is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwLuLxb8qHwMUzN0Z2k3NDFwRUU/view?usp=sharing
  8. I'm sorry, Godlover. I mistakenly cited you. Geobob, the 26H-12462-00-00 has been superseded with 1B3-12462-00-00, which also replaced 1AA-12462-00-00, 3XP-12462-00-00, 26H-12462-00-00, 5JW-12462-00-00. http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/yamaha-cap-radiator-1b3-12462-00-00-part.html 1B3-12462-00-00 is also available here: http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/motorcycle/Y-1B3-12462-00-00.html for $23.41. Bottom line: yes, apparently the 3XP-12462-00-00 you originally inquired about will fit.
  9. Thank you, Rodney for the VIN's. When you get a chance, would you submit a couple more details about your bikes? Manufactured date, mileage and color? Thanks.
  10. Here is the correct cap for your bike @Geobob. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Yamaha-FZX700-TDM850-XVZ1200-XVZ1300-Venture-Radiator-Cap-26H-12462-00-/361232483089?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item541b224311&vxp=mtr
  11. Ben, here is a pic of the clutch slave bleeder location.
  12. Squid, back at the last Freebird MD, I inquired about getting one of the decals from you and you said to contact you after you got back to Texistan, but I failed to follow-up. Is it too late to get one in silver? Thanks.
  13. Here is a pic of the metering valve on my 1991. As you can see there is no visible hole if the rubber cap is in place. Perhaps your cap has been lost and that allowed road spray to rust the now exposed portion of the metering valve. As you can also see, the body of the metering valve is aluminum and will not rust. If the cap is missing the exposed steel spindle will rust and yes there is a hole in the bottom of that spindle, but obviously it should not be leaking. MKI and MKII metering valves are interchangeable. I searched on eBay and found several metering valves, albeit mostly attached to the brake line(s). Here are several: http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-YAMAHA-XVZ-1200-XVZ1200-VENTURE-OEM-BRAKE-HOSE-LINE-FRONT-TO-REAR-CYLINDER-/380905869386?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item58afc2504a&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-YAMAHA-XVZ1300-XVZ13-VENTURE-ROYALE-FRONT-TO-REAR-BRAKE-LINE-W-VALVE-1010-/351113782356?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51c0032454&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/83-YAMAHA-XVZ12-XVZ1200-VENTURE-BRAKE-LINE-HOSE-FRONT-TO-REAR-4646-/331051768393?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d14391a49&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-Yamaha-XVZ12T-Venture-Front-Brake-Line-with-Spliter-Condition-/271228413156?hash=item3f267924e4&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-XVZ12-83-85-XVZ13-86-93-front-brake-metering-valve-pipe-and-hose-/321126456384?hash=item4ac4a0dc40&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/84-YAMAHA-XVZ12-XVZ-12-XVZ1200-VENTURE-FRONT-TO-REAR-BRAKE-LINE-K23-/370744256033?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5652146621&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/89-Yamaha-XVZ1300-XVZ-13-1300-D-Venture-brake-hoses-lines-set-front-rear-/261101120883?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ccad6ed73&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/88-YAMAHA-XVZ13-XVZ1300-VENTURE-FRONT-TO-REAR-BRAKE-LINE-21-/350588159588?hash=item51a0aec664&vxp=mtr BEST Buy http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-XVZ1300-XVZ-1300-13-Venture-front-to-rear-brake-line-/260844370476?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cbb893a2c&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Venture-1300-XVZ1300-FRONT-BRAKE-LINE-/350259387767?hash=item518d161d77&vxp=mtr
  14. Here is a picture of the pilot screw. It may help you visualize what Marcarl is explaining.
  15. I too, incorporated a ground block when I redid the fuse block on the 1990. I connected my ground block (actually a terminal strip with all the screws jumpered together) directly to the negative post of the battery. This allowed for multiple devices to be grounded to the negative post without a bunch of wires attached to the negative post. I also incorporated an accessory fuse block to relieve the ACC circuit and ignition switch of any accessory loads. The only load on the ACC circuit (and thus on the ignition switch) is the load imposed by the 30 amp relay actuating coil. All the accessories are fused through the new accessory fuse block and the accessory fuse block is fed via a 10 gauge wire from the positive post of the battery via the 30 amp relay.
  16. Not exactly. That Venture (47R) was the 47th 1983½ XVZ12KC2 Standard made (that series started with 000101), not 47th of 1983. It was made in September 1983 as Yamaha's attempt at selling a 1984, but titled as a 1983, in the US while skirting the new "Big Bike" tariff on 1984s. I already had that bike in my database. It was sold on eBay End Time: 3/22/2012 11:34 Sold Price: $1,000 Bids 26 Location: Cleveland, OH (44135) Seller: darkengrey For Sale By: Private seller Year: 1983 VehicleTitle: Make: Yamaha Condition: Model: VENTURE Mileage: 66755 VIN: JYA47R00XDA000147 Exterior Color: Blue
  17. Thank you Bill and Gary. Appreciate the VINs. If either of you wish a copy of the .xlsx file, let me know and I will email it.

  19. You are welcome. And welcome to Family.
  20. The First Gen TCI fall into three versions: 26H (black label) are for 1983 only. 41R (-10, green label; -11, blue label) are for 1984-1989. 3JJ (yellow label) are for 1990-1993 only.
  21. Here is a Yamaha Audio Troubleshooting Guide. Perhaps it will help. General Audio Troubleshooting.pdf
  22. I have noted a slowness to the site for several days. Sometimes, it would take forever to get to a thread from another. Sometimes, I would have to leave the site altogether and come back and start again to get to a thread. TODAY, it is working faster and with no issues.
  23. IMHO, it should not be called a ROYAL STAR if it does not have a V4. It may be a Star Venture, but it should not be called a Royal Star Venture if it is a V-twin. ALL Royal Stars (RS, RSTD, RSV) have been V4's and should remain so. You know, it has always bothered me that Yamaha redesigned the Second Gen VMax with a very nice, large, technically sophisticated, V4 engine and yet has limited that engine to the 'niche' VMax. It seems to me that Yamaha would try to spread the huge cost of development and manufacture of the 1700cc V4 across more of it's product line. Logically, that 1700 V4 would make a killer Venture super tourer. Superior to any current tourer. It just doesn't make any sense that Yamaha would limit that V4 to just one low volume machine.
  24. Agree. However, the ORIGINAL story appeared first in the National Report, a satirical web publication. By their own account, their stories are fictitious.
