Hmm. Never thought about it, but I wonder if the friction plates might have swelled. Were they new plates? What do they now measure for thickness?

1st gen main fuse information
Prairiehammer replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I knew about the spare main fuse link in the fuse holder, but it was used already on my '83 so I ordered another fusible link as a spare. Part number: 707-82151-00-00, $2.37 each at Boats.net For those of you who haven't upgraded to the ATC fuse, perhaps you should check for your spare fusible link, too. -
Ben @Daitan, I see that parts from your old '84 are being sold on eBay. Calling it a 1989. http://www.ebay.com/sch/autopartsheaven/m.html?item=201323851319&hash=item2edfd62e37&vxp=mtr&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Yep me, too. Site has been intermittently slow to get on, to change forums or to even change threads. And today, I get this: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@venturerider.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. EDIT: It took a full thirty seconds to send this post, meanwhile the worm was chasing its tail.

Main Ground Location
Prairiehammer replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dingy, is the cable you provided in your kit too short to install with the lug orientation identical to the OEM? I'm wondering why you have it arranged as you do, against the elbow on Tweety? -
Stator cover removal
Prairiehammer replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
yep, it helps alot, both removing and installing. Fred Vogt posted the idea back in 2007. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?12752-Stator-helpful-hint -
I have very little experience with powder coating, although there is a coater just a couple miles from me and he has allowed me to watch how it is done and to see some of their work (mostly wheels). He emphasized that (like so MANY other things) prep was one of the most important steps, followed by proper cure. It seems to me that a well applied powder coat should stand up to the rigors of the latches. Dingy has powder coated some items on his bikes, he may have a better insight, but meanwhile, I found this thread where the folks actually clobber some PCed items with a pick hammer, without degradation: http://forum.eastwood.com/showthread.php?635-Powder-Coat-Durability

heated grips
Prairiehammer replied to jimmy99's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Indeed they appear to come with throttle tube, however, I am not certain that the throttle tube is the same as the stock Venture throttle tube (cam hole orientation, etc.). If they fit the GL1500 as claimed, they will be the correct length for the Venture. As for "spendy", this place is selling them for nearly half price. https://www.mxmegastore.com/show-chrome-grips-heated-7-8-bars-17-385.html -
Wrecked my 1993 Royale tonight - have some questions?

The Ohio cage driver in our case was charged with "improper lane change"; he abruptly moved from the right lane of a four lane limited access highway to the left lane, where we were. -
That hitch is called a Pivot Ball Hitch. An alternative to a swivel coupler. Mixed reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Pivot-Ball-Trailer-Hitch/product-reviews/B0053H9088 http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?250414-Swivel-Pivot-Ball-Hitch

What final drive might I have ?
Prairiehammer replied to Mike R's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The stock First Gen Venture will turn about 3100 rpm at an indicated 55 mph. So I am going to say that your '86 has the stock Venture final drive. -
Since I don't have any way to measure the header pipe temperature, I cannot say what is a normal temperature, BUT I do know that the front chrome header pipes are double walled. That might account for the difference in temp. However, since it runs like crap AND the tach doesn't work, then the wiring to/from the pickup coils and TCI or the connections on the TCI or the TCI is suspect.

After market mufflers
Prairiehammer replied to Mike R's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You will not find any slip-ons for the First Gen Venture marketed any more. Back in the day, there were two or three aftermarket manufacturers of slip-on mufflers for your '86; Jardine and MAC and one other who's name escapes me for the moment. Your best bet is to search on eBay for such mufflers. For awhile there was a seller offering brand new MACs for the First Gen on eBay, but I haven't seen a listing lately. Alternatively, several have adapted Harley Road King mufflers to the First Gen. It is not a slip-on (there is a transition pipe that has to be fabricated and some brackets to be made), but the RK mufflers are common and cheap. -
The only error I get when uploading a pic is if it is too large.

They appear similar, but are different colors. The following shows what years and markets enjoyed the Dull Blue Cocktail (primary) and Dark Greyish Blue Metallic 1 (secondary): 1989 US ROYALE DULL BLUE COCKTAIL/DARK GREYISH BLUE MET.#1 1989 EUROPE DULL BLUE COCKTAIL/DARK GREYISH BLUE MET.#1 1990 US ROYALE DULL BLUE COCKTAIL/DARK GREYISH BLUE MET.#1 1990 EUROPE DULL BLUE COCKTAIL/DARK GREYISH BLUE MET.#1 1991 CANADA DULL BLUE COCKTAIL/DARK GREYISH BLUE MET.#1 -
My caution concerning pooling was referring to using excess amount of Ride-On in an attempt to widen the protective band.

Wrecked my 1993 Royale tonight - have some questions?
Prairiehammer replied to syscrusher's topic in Watering Hole
The color is Star Blue Metallic (primary) and Enticer Blue Metallic (secondary). Only 1992 and 1993 Ventures had this color. In fact, ALL 1992 and 1993 US Ventures were this color. -
Umm, maybe. The performance won't be as good with a 1300cc engine and 1200cc carbs. If your new engine is a 1990-1993, then the TCI will have to be from a 1990-1993. Or you will have to replace the pick-up coils and rotor with a 1983-1989. Like I said, anything can be done, just a matter of working out the details.
-
Yes, it will bolt up in place of the 1200, but (there's always a "but"), the carbs on the 1200 are smaller than on the 1300 and in the case of your '83, the carbs and the TCI are unique. The wiring harness is different as well. Having said all that, there are many folks who have done the change with good results.

That has been many people's experience. And adding more than the recommended amount does not increase the coverage area, but may cause balancing problems because the excess Ride-On tends to pool and not redistribute evenly. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b231/davidji/bike/01-22-13_1253_zpsfc32baf9.jpg
