  1. Hey Folks, Just wanted to let everyone know, I took your majority advice and installed Skydoc's clutch upgrade kit in my bike today. All I can say is, WOW! Not only did it correct the problem, it made the bike sooo much better coming out of the hole, and more torquey as I ran through the gears. Some said there would be about 15% harder pull on the clutch lever, but to be honest, I never really noticed it. What I did notice is, I didn't have to throttle it as much to take off in first gear, and the bike felt like it was pulling harder than it has in a while as I went through the power band in each gear. Pretty cool! No doubt the clutch has been slightly slipping for some time now without me really noticing it. Thanks so much for everyones help on this matter. I know it's been stated on another popular thread, but this has been many times worth the $12.00 member fee. BTW, The job was a piece of cake, as many of you stated. Earl was a big help by explaining in detail what I should expect. Also, the picture instructions that 93 Venture sent me was super helpful. It was so simple, I kept feeling like there should be more to it, but there wasn't. Lol. Thanks again, Lynn
  2. Fear the web mistress!!!
  3. Thanks Rick, I am going to install Earl's upgrade kit tonight. I feel sure, after all the information you and the other folks have given me, it will correct my problem. To tell you the truth, I have actually been wavering back and forth on whether I should just change back to the regular oil and see if that corrects it, but in the end, I just figured I should do the upgrade, and that way I shouldn't have to worry about it for miles to come. I'm anxious to see if it is as easy a job as everyone has said. Appreciate your concern, Lynn
  4. Twelve dollars, smelve dollars, who cares how much it is, I'll pay it! I don't know who Don is, but I hope he gets filthy rich off this site, because he is providing an extremely valuable product that I now feel like I can't do without as long as I own my RSTD. BTW, has anyone noticed that this guy hasn't responded to any of the posts since he posed his rude question? What's up with that?
  5. Oh Man! I hate to hear that! You didn't give the details of the crash, but it certainly sounds like you took a hard fall. Take your time to recover, and hopefully you'll be ready to get back in the saddle sooner than you think.
  6. Thanks to all for your suggestions and coaching. I ordered both of the kits from Earl today, and he is overnighting them to me. I hope to be able to give a good report back tomorrow night after I finish the job. It's incredible how much knowledge you folks have about these bikes. It certainly gives me a peace of mind knowing I can always turn to you guys (and gals) to find the answers to the various issues that may arise on my bike. Thanks again.
  7. I just had a buddy of mine (BMW rider) asked if it is true that the problem is the clutch spring, wouldn't it slip in every gear? So, I guess that is a valid question I need answered. As I stated above, this happened in different gears at different shift points and acceleration points. Is that common for this problem?
  8. Gunboat, It has 24,000 on it. I bought it new in June of 2008. It is still under warranty, but I assume they would say this is a wear item and not covered. All the feedback that you folks have given me has me fired up about getting the parts in and getting it done. I'm certainly interested in buying Skyroc's product. I emailed him earlier today to see if I could pay to have it overnighted. he hasn't returned my email yet. We have a ride scheduled for this coming weekend, and I'm anxious to get it done. I assume, as several others have said, you found it to be an easy and simple fix? Lynn
  9. Maybe the next question I have is.....Does anyone know where I can read a detailed explanation of how to change the clutch spring?
  10. So....I take from the different comments that there is a slim chance that changing from regular 10W-40 to Semi Synthetic 20W-50 could be the cause of slight slippage?
  11. So...I'm guessing Squidley is a talker?
  12. Is the clutch spring covered under the 5 yr warranty? Its still under warranty.
  13. Its Yamalube Performance Semi-Syn 20W-50. Up until now I have been using Yamalube Performance All Purpose 10W-40.
  14. Hey folks, I need your expertise. Today my wife and I took a quick ride to grab a bite, and basically clear the cobwebs before we start another weeks work. As I was pulling out of the neighborhood, going through the gears getting up to speed, in 4th gear the bike revved a little and it sounded like clutch slippage. It was so quick and faint that I wasn't sure that I had actually experienced it. then we stopped at a red light. As we pulled away from the light, in 3rd or 4th, I can't remember which gear, it did it again. This time I felt for sure that it was clutch slippage. A mile or so after that, we hit an entrance ramp and got on the freeway. After I clicked it into 5th, and was throttling up to 70 mph, it revved again. From that point on it never did again. While we were eating, I remembered that a couple weeks ago when I rode it last, it had done the same thing once as I was pulling out of our neighborhood, but then didn't do it again the rest of the day. I thought then that I had imagined it, but not today. I know what I experienced today. So, my question is, 3 weeks ago I changed the oil, and for the first time I used synthetic oil, could the synthetic oil be causing slippage? The bike is a 2007 RSTD with 24k miles and has been perfect up until now. Please advise.
  15. I like the black one. I like the lower profile, and the extra rack on the front for your ice chest.
  16. Hmmm. We rode 400 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway 2 days after we rode some of the Natchez Trace, and in our opinion the BRP blows the Trace away. High elevations, amazing scenery, cooler temps, numerous tunnels, etc. Now that is a road that I would find it hard to be bored on.
  17. Thats pretty cool! Great tool for comparing the different bikes.
  18. Yeah, what he said.
  19. Okay, now after reading edissy's post, I'm starting to think our total boredom experience on the Trace from Tupelo to Cherokee wasn't out of the norm.
  20. E-85 is crap. I drive a 2010 F150 crew cab flex fuel. About 8 months ago I decided to fill my tank with E-85 because it was 40 cents per gallon less at the station where i was getting gas. Well, over the course of burning that tank, my Avg Mpg read out on my dash went from 17.2 to 12.5. That sucks.
  21. I used to have one. It works well for what it is intended, but, don't you have cruise?
  22. Thanks for the report on the Natchez Trace. Last year my wife and I did a 2 weeker out east to ride the great roads in and around Tennessee, North Ga, and NC, including the Blue Ridge Parkway. After stopping in Tupelo to see Elvis' birthplace, we rode the Natchez Trace the 60 miles or so up north to Cherokee Alabama. I have to say, we weren't greatly impressed. Actually, we got a little bored because it felt like we were just riding through a chute of pine trees for 60 miles without much scenery. However, after reading your report, I now realize we need to give it another chance and ride farther north where there abviously must be beautiful scenery to experience. Or maybe south of Tupelo where there might be some cool history to read about. Yes, we are guilty of prematurely judging a road. Thanks again.
  23. Thanks for the info. I'm thinking seriously about getting one for my bike. I haven't found a good picture with it on a Tour Deluxe, do you by chance have one or two that I could check out? If not, thats okay.
  24. I guess I wasn't as specific as I needed to be. What I was asking about was your Hoppe fairing. Did it come ready to bolt right on?
  25. Thats funny! I would sure hope that if they put minds to it, they could come up with something better than that. Lol.
