Juggler, Gotta be more careful about what you allow to get into your pants. Thought yoiu were trying to find a pair of half chaps to prevent incidents like that. Or maybe just a pair of gaiters....

Very true... Not sure if this had any influence of the original suit, but it was filed after the government denied a petition to erect a memorial for Buddhists at the same site. Our government is very particular about what religions (beliefs) will be recognized on federal property. For example markers bearing Atheist and Wixon symbols are not allowed in National Cemetaries.

I can certainly understand this type of incident getting folks dander up, but for those signing the petition, you are a day late and a dollar short. But, just in case anyone is really interested in facts. This case went to court in 2002. The court held in favor of the petitioner. In 2004 it went to the appellate court. The Court of Appeals held in favor of the defendant. In 2007 it moved to the US Supreme court. Finally, in June, 2009, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the US Govt. The memorial is to remain...

Not a whole lot of response to the question. So, thought I would bump it up again. If there is no more interest in having biscuits and gravy on the breakfast menu than has already been posted, we will just remove it. Takes a lot of time, effort, and expense to make the biscuits. So folks it's up to you. YES or NO on the biscuits and gravy for breakfast at the Pork in the Pines?

A Change to Raffle ticket prizes this year!!
Black Owl replied to Cinderella's topic in Watering Hole
OKAY!!!! So now I got to buy me some raffle tickets to win the netbook. No, wait a minute, I already have ALL the tickets... So I guess Cindi can just go ahead and send me the prize now and I won't have to wait for the drawing. -
But I sure know who ended up getting a sweet deal. As we are serving breakfast on Sat and Sunday morning at the Pork in the Pines this year, (which, by the way is free for all in attendance) I realized that I needed to get a large griddle on which to fix breakfast. Had been checking prices, and the best price I could find for the griddle I wanted was $100.00 at Cabelas. This was the double burner Camp Chef cast iron walled griddle 15x32 inches. Well, last night I was at Gander Mountain and decided to check their camping equipment. You know, just in case I saw something that I really, really didn't need at the right price. Well, looking at their cast iron cookware, I see the Camp Chef Double griddle stuck in behind a bunch of other camp cooking equipment. No price on the box, so I ask the clerk working the section to check the price for me. He pulls it up on the store computer and quotes me a price of $59.00. This about knocks my socks off, so I ask him to check again just to verify that he looked up the right one. Yep, he says $59.00. Get to the check out, and the clerk scans the bar code and it comes up $79.00. This is still a great price, but I tell him the clerk in camping had checked the price and it was $59.00. So, the cashier calls the clerk in camping who confirms that he told me the price was $59.00. They talk for a few minutes, and the cashier says, "OK, if that's the price you quoted him, I'll go ahead and do a mark down". Couldn't get the plastic out fast enough. So, now you folks have another reason to come to the 2009 Pork in the Pines Pig Roast. Besides the great food, free camping, getting to meet old friends and make new ones, you can stop by and marvel at my great deal on the griddle. Only 8 weeks to go and counting down. If you haven't registered yet, you can register on line at www.porkinthepines.com And remember, this year there is no admission charge. But donations will be graciously accepted. Heck, even if you decide you can't make it this year, we would still be more than happy to accept your donation to help us off set the expenses. BTW: Just in case anyone was concerned, I finally got my Smilies working again.

No... All you would need to do is remove the complete assembly, turn it upside down, and you should see a bolt in the bottom. In most mirrors, they are a Phillips head.
-
While I haven't had an opportunity to disassemble this specific mirror, most have a tension bolt in the base that can be tightened. You need to remove the mirror to access the bolt. Hope this helps.

Being a dumb old Army Chief not sure that I fully understand this, but thought you might... The Navy Chief noticed a new seaman and barked at him, 'Get over here ! What's your name?" "Paul," the new seaman replied. "Look, I don't know what kind of bleeding-heart pansy crap they're teaching sailors in boot camp today, but I don't call anyone by his first name," the chief scowled. "It breeds familiarity, and that leads to a breakdown in authority. I refer to my sailors by their last names only; Smith, Jones, Baker. I am to be referred to only as 'Chief.' Do I make myself clear?" "Aye, Chief!" "Now that we've got that straight, what's your last name?" The seaman sighed. "Darling, My name is Paul Darling, Chief." "Okay, Paul, here's what I want you to do ....."

up in the mountains. Won't be able to join you in person, but will be with you in spirit. So, for all that are able to make the run, ride smart, have a great time, and take lots of pics so us less fortunates can continue to live vicariously.

So Allan, Is this your gentle way of saying you're not going to make it again this year. You keep threatening to show up... but so far we are still waiting. And Red Neck, would be more than willing to send yah biscuits and gravy overnight. Just aftaid that the package would probably arrive empty as there would be no way to keep the savory odor of the contents from wafting out. Then the pilots/crew would get so hunger they would have to raid the package. So, in an effort to keep them honest, maybe it would be better if you just jumped on your scoot and hauled Azz up to the Pork in the Pines. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/lol6.gif http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/lol5.gif

Randy, For additional informatioin, try this link. Vietnam War Bibliography: The International Commissions: ICC (ICSC) and ICCS
-
The International Control Commission (ICC), formally called the International Commission for Supervision and Control in Vietnam (ICSC), was the international force established in 1954 that oversaw the implementation of the Geneva Accords that ended the First Indochina War with the Partition of Vietnam. It reported on the progress of the ceasefires and any violations against them. The force comprised troops and officers from Canada, Poland, and India representing the non-communist, communist, and non-aligned blocs respectively. Although supposedly neutral, the members of the ICC often took sides in the Vietnam War (Second Indochina War) and even offered aid to both sides. Canadian personnel were known to have done intelligence work for the United States during their bombing of North Vietnam.[1] Actions such as these often led members of the ICC to become targets with several members losing their lives. Even with admissions from Hanoi, the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong are believed to have killed ICC members.[2] With the signing of the Paris Peace Accords of 1973, the ICC was dissolved and replaced with the International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS).

Okay Steve, You're in....

Ian, While I have never visited it, there is a second memorial in Melochville, Quebec. It was originally raised in Cote Sainte Chatherine in October 1989. Due to a land grab by the city hall, the memorial was moved to Melochville October, 1994. There is also a moving memorial wall. It was on displace in St Paul this past June 13-14. While not as majestic as the US wall, it is definately worth viewing if it is ever in your area. It has the names of all confirmed Canadian deaths in Vietnam (a total of 121), the names of the 7 POW-MIA and the names of the 2 Canadian Servicemen killed in the UN mission to Vietnam after the war.

OK.. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/super.gif So that's three. May only have to make one batch of biscuits...
-
As a member of the Canadian Vietnam Veterans, I would like to make one minor correction to the information in the news article. There were over 35,000 Canadians (the ghost soldiers) that joined the US forces to serve in Vietnam. There are also 7 listed as POW-MIA. One, from Toronto, is also the recipient of the Congressional Medal or Honor. We almost equaled the number of Americans, 50,000 +/- that went to Canada to avoid serving in Vietnam. And for those that thought they had problems with gaining membership in the VFW, the Canadian Legion refused to acknowledge the service of the Canadians who served with the US Forces in Vietnam. Going so far as to call us nothing more than mercenaries. Another interesting piece of trivia is the number of Canadian Vietnam Vets suffering PTSD. The last data I have was that less than 100 have been diagnosed with PTSD. Some feel that the low number is a direct result of the fact that we volunteered to go to 'nam as opposed to being forced to go by the draft. The number of Canadians that served in specialty units, Helicopter pilots, Special Forces, RECON, Rangers etc., was also surprisingly high.

Hopefully by now most members are aware that Minnesota will be once again hosting the Pork in the Pines Pig Roast over the 2009 Labor day week end (visit www.porkinthepines.com) The guest of honor has been invited, and I am currently working on some of the other mundane issues. One of those issues involves the menu for the free breakfast on Saturday morning. In another thread, Sarges46 mentioned that he "loved" biscuits. This got me to thinking. (I know... really dangerous.) Anyway, I was thinking, would it be possible to include biscuits and gavy on the menu. Would take a bit more work and require that I get up really early, but if enough folks were interested, I think we could do it. So, the question is... How many folks planning on being at the Pork in the Pines breakfast would like to have biscuits and gravy? Right now, breakfast will include Eggs cooked to order (as long as you order scrambled) Sausages Hot cakes (or pancakes) Fried taters Toast Coffee Remember, this years PIP is free for all attendees (A donation jar will be set up for those that would like to make a donation to help is cover the costs). As always, there will be plenty of free camping space... (B ut the choice sites are going quick) For that you will get: Chili social meet and greet Friday night Breakfast Saturday morning Rosted hog with all the fixins Saturday night Free cigars (Thanks to Juggler) at the bonfire Saturday night Breakfast Sunday morning (if I can get a sponsor) Pulled Pork Sandwiches Sunday evening We will also be doing a bike service workshop and Brandi (Crows Nest) has graciously volunteered her bike for a pipe tuning... So, let me know about the biscuits and gravy as the cook (who can get really obnoxious if he is caught short) will need some additional time to up the biscuits.... Thanks to all who have registered to date, and if you're considering coming up this year and have not registered, please do so now to give us a handle on how many to expect. Again, registration can be done at www.porkinthepines.com Or just give us a heads up here. Black owl
