  1. I'm new to this also, but have decided to start my experimentation in 5lb increments. It can't hurt to go up to 36lbs and give it another go. Max pressure on the Kumho is 44lbs and I imagine the nexan is pretty much the same although I blew the sidewall out of mine trying to mount it. :sign **** happens:
  2. Much of it is just a matter of the drivers. Please try MEPIS, it is the best out of the box Linux I've ever used. What kind of printer? Linux does not work well with Lexmark, but any HP works extremely well. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It is a live CD so you may try it before committing, it will also auto partition your drive so you can dual boot your current Windows version and it.
  3. I'm thinking:think: the secret is to let the local auto tire store inflate and seat the tire then take it and have it balanced or add your beads.
  4. Haven't received any Iron Butt stuff yet, but the last one my step-daughter and I rode in took 7 months to receive any thing. The summer months are naturally the Iron Butt ride months and all the verifications are done by volunteers so it takes some time. It will come, but probably no time soon.
  5. SilvrT - Would going with Virtual Box suit your needs better than Wine and just run your Windows install from within the Linux? Haven't used Virtual Box in about a year, but the last time I did it seemed to work well and the last couple of forum posts I've read on it indicates it has improved since then too.
  6. Another good option is PCLinux MiniMe about 290Mb. I like to start with it and then download the programs I want and use. OK if you have fast internet.
  7. Wish I could give you a definitive answer, but I haven't used Active Directory. Check here. Also, I wasn't suggesting you were "starting out", I kinda threw that in there for others that may be reading the thread. I try to convert every one I can.
  8. I wanted to spend the night with every one else, but I guess since I live so close I'll just sneak around sometime real late and scare everybody. In the spirit of Halloween of course.
  9. Good grief! Just been at the Linux counter and I've been using Linux since Nov '93. I guess so, but didn't realize it had been that many years. Guess Bill hasn't been getting much of my , not that he cares.
  10. Go to DistroWatch they are, almost all, listed down the right side. Of the 3 MEPIS is the one I would recommend to someone just starting out or wanting to try Linux. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l224/teyster2/MiscNgifs/404928.jpg?t=1256697820
  11. I currently dual boot two Linux O/S. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l224/teyster2/MiscNgifs/snoozer_likelinux_man.gif?t=1256697539 Kubuntu w/KDE4 and PCLinux w/GNOME. Haven't used windows except occasionally for work in about 5 years. I'm really starting to like the KDE4 desktop. I'm also a fan of MEPIS which has always detected all my devices and wifi right out of the box, but I like to switch around now and again, but those are my 3 main stays.
  12. Our prayers for your mom. I just don't see why you had to flaunt your retirement at me, knowing I've still 3 years to go.
  13. I know what you say is true, but buying a $165.00 Cobra seems to defeat some real cost savings that are the true gift of riding the darkside. What I'm saying is, I want to achieve the best of both worlds, super savings without sacrificing too much on the handling side. Having experienced the Pirelli first hand on a previous bike, it is no slouch, but neither is it a radial - - - hmmm:icon_smile_question
  14. I'm with the wife on this one. My bike is a super large chunk of my life. I could not, can not give that up.
  15. Ebay the Commander or post it here and get the Kumho. You will be glad you did IMHO.
  16. By God, that's spirit. Buy her a new one. She's a keeper.
  17. Paint and glue sniffing. Man, that takes me back......................... to last night .
  18. Thanks Don. I hope to get some riding in soon. I have noticed a couple of things, like coming out of a curve the bike seems to not roll back but land flat. O.K. by me, but it took a minute to get used to. It does seem to have all the traction you'd expect, but I had no traction problems with the m/c tire. Hope to soon give it a real work out. I am not a real twisty kind of guy, getting a little too old for that but I love the way it feels shooting down the super slab. I've still got tons of use left in the oem 404 on the front, yet plan to change it out next month. I'm considering the Pirelli MT66 rear reversed on the front, but I'm still researching that.
  19. Yes, I and my friend have purchased from them before. It looks like you could get branded or generic, my order was loosely wrapped EBC, but the one he ordered were not marked with any brand. I didn't complain, nor did he. Money well spent and if I remember fast delivery.
  20. Gregg, do you keep it the same for two-up? I didn't see any significant difference with Patricia on the back, but it was only for a short distance. Haven't had the opportunity to ride that much yet. Hey, when are we gonna get a seashell/raven rsv smiley?
  21. This might be fun indeed!
  22. Hearing protection is certainly advised. I spect most of us, at least me, are still in the learning process, but by gosh I am now an official darksider and loving it.
  23. Yes, I had the feeling that the Nexen side wall was not as heavy as the Kumho.
  24. Finally, I'm riding on the Kumho. Initial impressions are it feels good. I seem to have felt a little wobble in the slow speed turn leaving Georges, but I left the tire pressure at 33 where it was after the Firestone store. I may play with the pressure some later. Going down the super slab it's smooth and comfy and lane changes just seem to happen as if controlled by my thoughts. Oh heck, I can't really explain it, but I like it. More thoughts later. By the way, my audio is not working. I'm thinking it had something to do with removing and replacing the CD changer, but I checked the fuse and still nothing. Anybody else had this problem?
  25. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_xOOWRVc9-a4/SuQ3oYKIoJI/AAAAAAAAA5Y/SFmQsZOzxkU/GuidancebyGeorge.jpg Don't care what nobody says. That's one fine looking motorcycle - - - car tire. I'm an early riser, so it's killing me to wait until nine to get back over to George's and get this baby all bolted up and go for a ride.
