Actually you shouldn't have to remove the side covers to get to the seat, there is a recess in the side rails that the saddlebags clip on to. I honestly can't remember if the saddlebags have to come off or not to get to those bolts, there is one on each side. You should take some lock graphite and really lube up the locks. Yes, the front locks are the ones to remove the saddlebags. I can remember one of my bags being slightly out of alignment and I had to wack the bag to get the key to move...

Wow, good luck with this one! It can be a bunch of things that you will need to troubleshoot! I would start with carrying a spare good spark plug and when it quits like that quick pull one of the plug wires and connect it to the spare plug and hold the plug against the frame of any good ground and crank it over to see if you have spark or not. In the mean time run a half can of Seafoam along with a tank of gas through it to help clean the carbs and fuel system, can't hurt and does help! If you are losing spark get back to us and we will take it from there. As mentioned, there is a multitude of possibilities causing your problem...

Well, to answer your initial question, the swap makes your gear ratios and 5th gear much better!! Makes your acceleration much quicker (But not quite as quick as a 1st gen) and makes 5th an actual usable gear for normal driving! As far as $500 for the entire bike, grab it!!! The motor alone is worth that...
