  1. Hmmm, binding throttle cable? Binding choke cable?? If it were constant, there is an idle adjustment on the carb linkage that looks like a thumb screw, but you say it is an intermittent issue so it can be anything binding up the throttle...
  2. Well, there ya go! Jeff did the research for you!!
  3. Great way to "flush" your upper cylinder area...
  4. There is a heavy duty clutch that Yamaha offers that is a good idea to install when you take everything apart to clean and check. It has more area and you discard that pesky retaining wire when you install. Your choice of oil may be a part of the problem as well. As mentioned, any auto oil with friction modifiers will cause the clutch to slip. Motorcycles have "wet" clutches with oil circulating in them as opposed to a car clutch which is external to the motor and has no oil on it. I would do some research on the oil of choice and see if it contains any friction modifiers. If it does, change it immediately and change it again after a couple hundred miles or less prior to working on the clutch, and drain that oil too before you reassemble. You want to get rid of any traces of friction modifiers. You should use motorcycle oil, or if you want to save some money, diesel engine oil works excellent such as Delo, Rotella, etc.
  5. Nope, but I find it wide though. Is it a stock seat? Try swinging a leg over a different RSV and see if you still feel the same way...
  6. Good, someone mentioned the tires! Tires more than 6 years old are a no no even on cages, much less motorcycles where you only have 2 of them keeping you upright! You certainly have a tough decision as IMHO both are worthy of consideration. I agree with Brian, start at an offer of $2000 and negotiate from there. You should be able to pick up either for less than $3000, just bring the cash with you as money talks, bull crap walks! When it comes to resale, bling adds very little to the value of a bike. If anything it personalizes a bike and the buyer might not have the same personality! This was brought out in a recent episode of Pawn Stars where a bike (yes, a Harley) was brought in with a red paint with pink flames and Big Hoss's argument was that there wasn't a big market for bikes with pink flames and that he would have to repaint the bike to make it salable which brought the offering price down a couple of thousand dollars. The same is true of lights and chrome doo dads. Although they cost to buy, they do not necessarily make the bike any more desirable or run any better...
  7. Just ordered one to replace the stock one in my fairing! Already have a bad boy installed where the exterior one was...
  8. Now you did it Brian, 7 bids and currently $91...
  9. Looks great but I had to turn my monitor upside down...
  10. So sorry to hear of this Brian. At least I had the honor of being in chat with him a couple of times!
  11. I might, I'll check later. If I still have it it's yours! I bought a new Zumo last summer...
  12. I like fixed fairing for the rear view mirrors. Almost had a serious accident with the 2nd gen making a turn. Looked over my shoulder as I was turning to find a car passing...
  13. ***Sigh*** I miss chrome fenders...
  14. Mike, even with the blue loctite those bolts finally break loose at the point you think either the head is going tom strip out or the bolt is going to snap!! Once you finally get that bolt off then the fun REALLY begins!! You're going to bend and contort that piece past frustration! You will walk away muttering to yourself and come back later and try again and the piece will practically fall out on it's own!! One of the tricks is to get the wiring out and away from the area...
  15. HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY Rhonda!!!
  16. That's equivalent to around 30,000 miles US which is hardly broken in yet! I'm thinking you don't need it...
  17. What, did you drop it on the dealer floor???
  18. They just didn't want to fix your oil leak!!! Congratulations, now lets just get some good weather so we can ride...
  19. BINGO!!! Time to find a new dealer!! This is the first time I have ever heard of any temperature related cruise control issues but I also do not to claim to be God or the worlds foremost authority either. Not to bash your dealer but if they are incapable of fixing it find a dealer that is!! You do NOT have to take it to the original dealer, and if another dealer says they will not fix it because you did not buy from them then report them to Yamaha, and warn us to steer clear of them!!!
  20. OK I hate to be bearer of bad news, but that nice list of aftermarket/mods?? Add $0.00 to the resale value!! The unfortunate truth about safety chrome, performance mods, etc. is it adds nothing to the resale value/trade in price...
  21. Yes, and no! Can they be bolted up, yes. Will they line up with the rotors, no! Can 2nd gen rotors be bolted up to a MK2? Yes but check with member Dingy for all the details as I believe he has researched all of this... PS, unless you are like the guy in the Geico commercial, to properly rebuild MK2 calipers you are looking at some major bucks and labor. Stick with the R1/R6 calipers, much cheaper and easier to rebuild!
  22. Make sure they are at the exact same height!!
  23. A 2008 should still be under warranty, 5 years unlimited mileage regardless if you are the original owner or not... The reason I mention this is if your dealer is giving you a runaround about the problem, go to a better dealer! Obviously the problem was not there when the bike was new. You should not havfe to do a single thing yourself to the bike, and if your dealer does not give you satisfaction then complain to Mother Yamaha...
  24. If you want to ride down to the states come to Pioneer Motorsports in Chaffee NY which is about 45 minutes from the Peace Bridge. Ventureriders get a discount, and Pioneer's service department is honest and reputable. Their work is top notch. Once again what is the mileage on the bike?? Chances are unless the bike is very hard starting and runs like crap you really do not need a valve adjustment. Mother Yammy wants to make money off of unnecessary preventative maintenance...
