  1. Hey I'm joining my buddies tomorrow. it''s my 1st time on this run, too. Ride Safe!!
  2. My buddy, who has riddin for 20 years bought a fully loaded, Ultra (Top of the line model) last year, with the Screaming Eagle package. The price was in the neighborhood of $30K. (He has always owned Harleys) It's been in the shop twice for bad gaskets, and once more for a wiring issue.(Harley covered everything under warranty). He loves the bike but admits that motor is really hot. I was close to buying a Road King before I picked up my 2005 RSV Midnight ( for $10K). I'm glad I went with the RSV. For the money, features, comfort, and (so far) realibility, it's a good choice for me. I will admit though, whenever someone finds out I ride, the first question is usually, "Do you have a Harley"? (This usually comes from non-riders who think the the sun rises and falls with HD). When I tell them I have and RSV...well, they have no clue. On occassion I will email these same people a picture of my RSV. Their reply? "Hey...that looks like a Harley!" Go figure.
  3. Long story short...I need to free up garage space this winter for my car. (Yes, I am planing ahead) I need some storage suggestions for my RSV. Has anyone used this? I am a little concerned as to how this will hold up to an Illinois winter. http://www.cycleshelter.com/ Do you have any other suggestions? Due to ordinance restrictions in my sub-division, I can't build another shed in my back yard, so it has to be a "movable structure" if it's in my yard. I appreciate any other suggestions.
  4. Possibly the single biggest issue of our generation...fuel. There is no easy answer, but a lot of factors. With developing nations demanding more fuel, it's only gonna get worse. Can anyone remember a significant increase in gas prices ever being followed by a significant decrease? It wont happen. My opinion...drill in the US, everywhere. Nothing is off limits. Anwar, Alaska, off the coast of California, everywhere. Also, Bush has to sign the bill to cease speculative trading on oil. Critics say that increases the proce of a barrel of oil as much as $30 - 35.00 dollars. We just studied this in a ecconomics class i'm taking. Also, start taping into solar power for ALL public buildings. The science is not perfect, but it would help. Every roof of new contruction should be solar panels. Same with wind towers, wherever the land can accomodate it. ( rural America). Ethanol. Forget corn. It's too labor intensive. Plant Switchgrass. Studies show (I just wrote paper on this) that it has more of the properties necessary for ethanol, grows like a weed, requires no fertilizer. (Also no Gov't subsidies). Partial answers are out there, sadly our leaders just aren't moving fast enough. Sorry for the rant friends...just a family man trying to survive.

    Gas Price

Two years ago I took a job as an analyst working from home. Recently our company reorganized and it was announced that I will need to work at our regional office...60 miles away!! There goes two years of "savings".
  6. Not too worried about theft either. At home, I keep the key in the ignition when the bike is in the garage. On the road I just lock the fork.
  7. Other good choices ( in terms of safety) are "construction " glasses you can find at places like Home Depot. Or, (what I use)...shooting glasses (with a yellow lense) which I purchased for about $15.00 from Gander Mountain. While not stylish, they are built with eye safety in mind.
  8. WOW. That bike is a beauty!! BTW...where can I get those chrome racks that you have on your saddle bags? Those are really sharp.
  9. WOW! What kind offer!! Once I get the lights, I will let you know, and see if you're available. Thanks to everyone for the help and insight!!
  10. I'm picking up an 04 RSV and I want to put passing lights up front. I also want the "Harley tail light mod" in back that I have seen posted here here. ex..http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 Can anyone reccomend a dealer or mechanic in the area Aurora Illinois who can do that? I know any dealer can do the factory lights, but some guys might not want to do the Harley Lights. Also, can anyone reccomend some specific brand / model of REALLY bright bulbs to use? I really want to see and be seen at night. Thanks
  11. Yeah, I figured the real cost driver with the RSV is the number of parts. Thanks for the insight. If anyone else has some experience with this, please let me know.
  12. General question, I know, but can anyone give me a ball park idea of what it would cost to have an RSV painted? I would probably do something straight forward, like the Black or Silver that Yamaha currently uses. Maybe red, but again, nothing fancy. Thanks for any insight.
