Well now, it seems to me that you need need to be told something!!! Looks to me that there is a lot less tread in the middle than on the sides, which can mean only one thing!!! It's time to corner more, you are riding a-way tooooo many straight stretches, or maybe you're just not following a Spyder enough!!!!

No other rally has the excitement of the Ontario Rally. If I still had my 85 I might be temped. http://www.southwindmotel.ca/trail.html

Should have used the sucker machine Eck. 'course that would not have been nearly as innovative and you would be wondering what you tell us about next. Glad you used the leaf blower!

I find that the more time I spend on the Spyder, the more I want to use it in place of the cage. But! I also find that I used want to do it more and then I wouldn't take to it as well for a while,,, yep, it comes and goes. Guess maybe it has to do with what else you have that takes your interest, singly or together. We only have the Spyder, nothing else, so I guess that might make a difference. If we had a boat or what ever, then the time available and the desire would have to be divided by what ever you have. One thing that keeps me riding, and I'm not saying it's the only thing, but it does play a part, is that if I no longer were riding, I might start to miss the friends I have made here. Like I said, my interests would be elsewhere and so would the time spent here. So there!!! It's all your fault that I'm still on a bike. This is called: Carlogic

Full coverage on the Spyder @ 1269 Aviva

Don't think there is one. Yamaha momma would love to sell one of those overstocked cases they have sitting around, and it's not a happening that is all that common. Most guys leave a bit of grease in that area and that seems to solve any forthcoming issues. You'll have to make one, or go to a local bearing dealer to see what they have and then work it from there. Ask away if you need more info. Lots of guys on this site can steer you right on the process.

If you need some help there buddy, just shout. And YES, Jesus does watch over you!

Looks like you still have the outer race stuck in the wheel. The first picture of a 'washer' seems to be the bearing cover (seal), the second one looks like the washer that goes between the brake caliper bracket and the wheel. The shaft is bent, you're right on that one. The wheel looks serviceable but you should mic it to be sure. Don't be worried about clean up, clean what you can see so that you can see better. You won't do any damage by cleaning with brake clean. Just keep it away from paint. I would suggest to pull back the boot on the u-joint at the transmission and clean that area as well before trying to put things back together.

Congrats on the new scoot. Clutch plates are designed to slip alongside of each other, hence a smooth steel plate. If you change that then first off the clutch will grab and go as you release it, there will be no easy moving forward. Not a good thing. Second, if there is wear it will be the fiber plates and they will soon be gone, and all you will have done is to plug up your oil filter. The shift shaft that you indicated runs through the outside of the stator case, so no oil would leak out of there. Yes they can get worn with use, so that point needs to be greased on occasion. In your case if it's really loose your could get a brass insert to fit and rebuild it. If you pull that apart watch that the knuckle behind the stator case goes in the upward position, or the case will not seat easy (it will, but not easy) and shifting will be a total loss.

Wow, just read this, boy am I behind. Glad you are ok Evan and as stated, don't sign off on anything, older bodies tend to show signs a bit later sometimes. You still have the 86 don't you? Change the seat and some farkle and you'll feel right at home. Bet you scared Anne when she arrived there. Keep in mind that the insurance company will go on line to price your bike and offer the lowest they see, but that doesn't mean the bike they're looking at is road worthy. It may need a lot to get it up to road worthy standard. keep us posted

Premium Vs. Regular gas - Interesting Investigative report
Marcarl replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
I only have my Spyder that I can talk about. I tried 3 tanks of premium and found no difference in anything, so for me a waste of money. Then after checking the research video ( by the way, I agree the first test was BS) I wonder how many manufactures are stating a higher octane just so that it looks better to the buyer? I mean, after all, "My car needs a higher octane so that means I have a better car ,,,right"? So the folks who can and want to spend more on their car so that they have something better than their neighbor now have a channel to dump the extra cash. I really liked the fellow from Quebec, that guy is awesome for his job. Skirted around every question put to him, but sounded really good on the surface. He actually had no input into the conversation whatsoever. Advertising today is all about what the advertiser thinks the consumer wants to hear, put in such a way that when the ad is done the consumers mind is lead to believe that what they wanted to hear was actually said,,,, when in fact, nothing was actually promised or held out as truth. But the consumer goes on their way thinking that they now know and can rely on the information they have in their head as truth. -
T'was a great weekend, good people, great hosts, good bikes, excellent mechanics, true BS, but alas, we missed some of the olden goldies! well maybbe next time. Thanks Don & Eileen! You two are the best.

pic of carb cables
Marcarl replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don't have any pictures but I remember that the primary cable does not run on the outside of the shaft with the nylon spacer as you might think. It runs on the inside. Do the return cable first and then the primary. -
Ain't that reality,,, soon to become FB.

Another dealer that is in line with them is Pioneer Motorsport in Chaffee NY. Really good bunch, can't say enough about them.

All the best to you all. Looking forward to the next time we get to meet.

They just needed to know whether or not you could speak proper Canadian, if not they would have to send an interpreter along to keep you safe.

Did u have to let the cat out of the bag??

I had mine expire a while ago, didn't realize it until we got to the border. Got through though, easy enough, just put a stupid look on my face in a hurry and was let through. For some that procedure is easier than it is for others, for me, it goes easy.
