  1. Looks like you still have the outer race stuck in the wheel. The first picture of a 'washer' seems to be the bearing cover (seal), the second one looks like the washer that goes between the brake caliper bracket and the wheel. The shaft is bent, you're right on that one. The wheel looks serviceable but you should mic it to be sure. Don't be worried about clean up, clean what you can see so that you can see better. You won't do any damage by cleaning with brake clean. Just keep it away from paint. I would suggest to pull back the boot on the u-joint at the transmission and clean that area as well before trying to put things back together.
  2. Congrats on the new scoot. Clutch plates are designed to slip alongside of each other, hence a smooth steel plate. If you change that then first off the clutch will grab and go as you release it, there will be no easy moving forward. Not a good thing. Second, if there is wear it will be the fiber plates and they will soon be gone, and all you will have done is to plug up your oil filter. The shift shaft that you indicated runs through the outside of the stator case, so no oil would leak out of there. Yes they can get worn with use, so that point needs to be greased on occasion. In your case if it's really loose your could get a brass insert to fit and rebuild it. If you pull that apart watch that the knuckle behind the stator case goes in the upward position, or the case will not seat easy (it will, but not easy) and shifting will be a total loss.
  3. Wow, just read this, boy am I behind. Glad you are ok Evan and as stated, don't sign off on anything, older bodies tend to show signs a bit later sometimes. You still have the 86 don't you? Change the seat and some farkle and you'll feel right at home. Bet you scared Anne when she arrived there. Keep in mind that the insurance company will go on line to price your bike and offer the lowest they see, but that doesn't mean the bike they're looking at is road worthy. It may need a lot to get it up to road worthy standard. keep us posted
  4. I only have my Spyder that I can talk about. I tried 3 tanks of premium and found no difference in anything, so for me a waste of money. Then after checking the research video ( by the way, I agree the first test was BS) I wonder how many manufactures are stating a higher octane just so that it looks better to the buyer? I mean, after all, "My car needs a higher octane so that means I have a better car ,,,right"? So the folks who can and want to spend more on their car so that they have something better than their neighbor now have a channel to dump the extra cash. I really liked the fellow from Quebec, that guy is awesome for his job. Skirted around every question put to him, but sounded really good on the surface. He actually had no input into the conversation whatsoever. Advertising today is all about what the advertiser thinks the consumer wants to hear, put in such a way that when the ad is done the consumers mind is lead to believe that what they wanted to hear was actually said,,,, when in fact, nothing was actually promised or held out as truth. But the consumer goes on their way thinking that they now know and can rely on the information they have in their head as truth.
  5. T'was a great weekend, good people, great hosts, good bikes, excellent mechanics, true BS, but alas, we missed some of the olden goldies! well maybbe next time. Thanks Don & Eileen! You two are the best.
  6. Wasn't me....mine ain't black, raven, or cherry.
  7. Don't have any pictures but I remember that the primary cable does not run on the outside of the shaft with the nylon spacer as you might think. It runs on the inside. Do the return cable first and then the primary.

  12. Thanks Steve, we'll think about ya.
  13. They just needed to know whether or not you could speak proper Canadian, if not they would have to send an interpreter along to keep you safe.
  14. Did u have to let the cat out of the bag??
  15. I had mine expire a while ago, didn't realize it until we got to the border. Got through though, easy enough, just put a stupid look on my face in a hurry and was let through. For some that procedure is easier than it is for others, for me, it goes easy.
  16. Oh Crap!!!! (can't say the other word that came to mind), now I'll have that to deal with as well. My weekend is getting full!
  17. The top part of the picture! Well maybe just as well!
  18. Are you planning on riding with us, or are you stopping to see your brother? Not that it matters, I can only put up with you for so long anyways before I break out laughing!
  19. OOOOOO that's before breakie!!!
  20. Guess what we're going to be employed at on the weekend?
  21. yep, if there is rust in the tank, then change the filter, clean the pump and replace the fuel lines.
  22. And here I thought you had come across a Spyder with all the hype. Nice mix, old Harley, another old 4 wheeler, and a good lookin blonde.
  23. You can, but it's better to replace it while you're there anyways.
  24. What's all this about cleaning and repairs,,, do we have to do that? really?
