  1. So did you try that trick again?
  2. Oh Crap, here I thought I could slow down for a bit, but you're keeping right up to me, Another birthday eh? soon to be retired I bet. Well, congrats and wishing you many more. And didn't I tell you that Marita wasn't too old to learn yet, took me a while, but seems I learned her good! Good picture, looks like an artist that knows you well.
  3. This is going to be something simple and stupid. Maybe it's the kill switch.
  4. Yep, that's the way it worked when I owned it.
  5. I never had an issue with the CC on my 85, but I can say the green light works as it should. Turn on the CC, it goes bright and then half bright until you set the CC.
  6. I think most of us have 'been there done that'. Don't they ever give these things to some dummy to figure out before they produce and package them? Glad the beer was good, and I assume that Momma is happy.
  7. You might try to replace the fuse that deals with this circuit, don't just look at it or test it, replace it.
  8. Just because we are not posting, doesn't mean we're not thinking.
  9. So you think you have gas. Next is, do you have spark. Fire it up and when it dies check a plug for spark. I know, it's assumed that you should have, or assumed that you don't have, but check it anyways. In order for an engine to fire you need three things, fuel, spark and compression. If one is missing then you need to fix that. Check first, don't assume.
  10. It's all about the folks south of the border and their funny speak. The real offer was Kate and Edith too, at least that's the way I heard it!!! Kate does windows and Edith does the floors, and then together they do the yard to get a nice suntan!!! Just wondering who does the laundry. and oh ya, wash the scoot.
  11. Pond monsters are a tale of legend, and, as you might know, legends aren't always based on fact. Now, I for one, have seen evidence of activity in Don's pond some years ago, but have since not even seen a ripple, so I figure that those, who would be looking for physical evidence, would be well advised to put their interests elsewhere. I would declare that the pond is now totally devoid of any serious afflictions. It should be quite safe to have a swim.
  12. CRAP!!!! if somebody figures out how to point those things to the rearward, then the 2nd gens might get to the 'beer' first.
  13. I was in Sandusky once, at least I think I was, but then maybe not. Where is Sandusky? Well at least you got a reply.
  14. If beads don't work and it runs perfect at 60mph, I would be looking into something that might be setting up a vibration. Doesn't seem to me to be a tire imbalance, I would think there would be some indicator at 60.
  15. Maybe check the battery voltage and the stator output. Could be that your passing lights use more than your stator is putting out, in which case your voltage would go down and take out your speedo.
  16. Thanks Don for doing this. Yes, Yammer Dan was front and center, but that didn't make him any more important than anyone else, even Kevin. Like you said, Kevin just went quietly about doing his thing, one of those guys who was in the support troops and not often noticed. I don't think I ever did meet Kevin, but I'm sure I will when time for me is no more and we can rehash the things that kept us going on this earth. I just wish that ALL of us could look forward to that time of eternal peace and harmony.
  17. If all that doesn't work might I suggest to change the fuel delivery lines, being that they are 10 years old there may be some restriction going on. When you set the floats are you sure that the drain screws are properly open? I know, stupid question, but stranger things have taken place in my life.
  18. Save all your 'bad' fuel in a glass container to see if there is any water in it. Water will reside on the bottom if there is any. Put a bit of methyl hydrate (gasline deicer) in the new fuel to clean out any residue.
  19. Check your oil level, sounds to me like the clutch is sticky and lack of oil on the plates might be the culprit.
  20. My guess is that there has been moisture getting into the solenoids. The body of the solenoids is aluminum and so are the seats, and water will corrode the seats. Not a hard thing to do, is to disassemble the solenoids and to clean them. The hardest part is to keep all the screws and springs close to your work area so that you don't loose them. If you find a seat that is not perfectly smooth, you have found a problem. First clean it as best as possible using brake clean and lots of air. The get some fine steel wool, wrap it around the blunt end of a drill bit and tape the end onto the bit. Now insert the sharp end into the drill and you have made yourself a homemade hone. Carefully clean the seat with the described tool. Then more brake clean and air. In your process of refurbishing go whole hog and pull everything apart for cleaning, even the diaphragm on the exhaust tube, and the desiccant in the moisture filter. The desiccant can be rejuvenated by putting it in the microwave for a few minutes. It should be pink in color. Anything else, just ask.
  21. Hey Puc, this was written in 2007 when there were no membership dues, so that part might be kind of out of date, so I didn't post it for that. The reason I reposted it, was that I was going through some older documents, opened it and said to myself: Self, this site is still so good, that 11 years later this post is just as relevant as it was then, maybe even more so. Now if somebody wants to donate, that is also welcome, just hit the donate button, but all that will do is to take less of Freebirds own resources to run this site, which is not a bad thing!!!
  22. My mechanic is an awesome guy. When ever I need something he points me in the right direction, if I ask him a question he comes up with all kinds of possibilities for an answer, when I need help in some mechanical aspect of my scoot he stands ready to show me pictures and diagrams and even sometimes finds physical help to get me through problem areas that are too much for me. At other times I just need a sounding board so I stop by and whine and complain or just share a pleasurable moment with him, at which he throws all the tools aside and listens with an attentive ear. I‘ve even shared a joke or two with him and he laughs as though it is real funny. He has not let me down yet. Last year he gave me a service manual, no charge he says. Then he noticed that my wind shield had a large scratch and he found me a practically brand new one for 1\2 price or less. Through his efforts I even found some safety chrome that all my friends are impressed with, and then he sent me to a place to get all the exact light lenses that were looking kind of old. I felt kind of bad, him doing all this for me and me never paying anything, so I asked what I could give him for his time and effort. Carl, he says, it’s all no charge, but if you bring me a cup of coffee now and then, when you come past a coffee shop, that would be nice. Just thought I should tell you all about him, seeing as he’s such a great guy. Part II My mechanic has been a busy one lately. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends also show up at his door asking questions, getting advice, sharing a story or two and making him laugh with some of their jokes. I just don’t know how he keeps up with the, now two, shops that he looks after plus his family his property. I sure glad he’s got some help with some of the locals. What bothers me sometimes though, is how long will he stay on. Very few of his customers pay him anything because he just won’t present a bill, he says it all from the goodness of his heart, and I believe that to be true. The other day though, I did leave him a little something so that he could maybe repaint the front door or maybe replace the chairs that we seem to have worn out by sitting on and watching him work. I’m thinking to make up a sign so that more of the other ‘locals’ will leave a little bit so that this winter when it gets cold, it could be a little warmer when we sit around and chat. I figure that with a little over the 3000 customers he has, we should be able to keep quite warm this winter. Yep you guessed it, MY MECHANIC is this site and if I need to say more this part will have to go to part 3. I really think that just counting the bike info we get, let alone all the other entertainment, comradery, prayers, support, physical help, and more, that we get from this site, we certainly would not want to forget to place just a little something in the donation box. Ok I’ve said too much, but it’s been on my mind and I couldn’t shake it. Now it’s done. Carl
  23. Don't worry none Bum, I had your back all weekend, and none of the recipients seemed any the worse for wear, fact is they were lining up to get the last ones in before heading out. You should have been there, hugs were a dime a dozen.
