  1. Man, that sure sounds like a solid lifter engine with a dry dry top end.
  2. I am primarily interested in the plastics. The fairings, side panels and trunk on my '83 need a lot of help. I've done some repairs to make them secure(to a point), but making them look nice is beyond my skill set. I can paint but the sculpting and shaping never turns out for me. The problem is, every time I spend time and money checking out a CL or Facebook add, they turn out to be a waste of said time and money. This one is close enough that it's not too big a deal if it falls through. There is another FB add that has the main fairings, side bags, engine covers and one side of the lowers from a maroon Gen I, Mk I that look to be in very good condition at a very good price. The problem is it's a 4 hour drive and I still have to locate a trunk and the rest of the lowers that match or paint everything. There are a couple members here that have a lot of what I need for sale. The problem is the freight cost is prohibitive for the larger fairing pieces. One member, who I will be meeting soon has a very nice looking '93 for sale. I wouldn't be opposed to buying another Gen I, in fact I plan to at some point. I'm just not sure I'll have the extra scratch in the time frame to make it happen at this time.
  3. Carb kits are available from multiple sources as well as individual parts still available from Yamaha and other OEM distributors like partzilla.com, boats.net, etc. I would caution you to stay a way from Chinese parts as they rarely pan out and just cost you double the labor + the "discount" original cost when you have to do the job again with quality parts.
  4. There is a facebook market place add for a 1988 Venture Royal not too far from me. About 2 hours drive. The pics are crappy but the guy said it is complete. He was in the process of tearing it down to fully repaint from the frame up and lost interest. He's asking $765.00 OBO My thoughts are to offer a low ball, sight unseen and pick it up to; A) Repaint(if necessary) and reassemble as my "new" daily rider. Thereby making The Beast a candidate bike for bobbing or some other harebrained project. Or B) Transfer the sub frames, luggage mounts, luggage and fairings to The Beast and making the '88 the base for a Frankenstein's monster. Any input?
  5. As promised. My AR34 and trusty Loggy Bayou climber I didn't even knock the dust off of the Loggy.
  6. I ordered the o-rings for the anti dive unit yesterday. They are on back order everywhere. Hopefully they don't take too long to get here. I probably have the right o-rings in one of my several o-ring kits, but I'd hate to tear it apart and not have the right size. When I get them, I'll take another look at all the front end stuff.
  7. Here's a stock pic of my Archery Research AR34 I haven't been shooting it much lately, but I used shoot 3D regularly(informal) and was an avid deer hunter before I started a business. I'll dig her out and get a pic of my set up.
  8. Wow! Sorry to hear that Earl. We'll be praying for you and a full recovery.
  9. :wow: Those candles are so bright I can see them from Ohio!
  10. If older bikes are an option, look at Yamaha's XJ series. 650 and 750 SECA or Maxim models. My '82 Maxim 750 is a very comfortable, easy handling and powerful daily ride. The wife and I have taken several weekend trips on it loaded for camping and it has no problem running 2up, loaded at highway speeds all day/. Solid running bikes can be had for $500.00 or less. I've seen near mint bikes for $2500.00
  11. Nope. Ive got the LCP with the Crimson Trace laser. Like I said though, I can mount your LaserMax and make whatever you want.
  12. I'll have to check to see if I have the Laser Max. If nothing else, you could send me the laser and I'd send it back with the holster. Do you have the original LCP or the LCP2?
  13. FlyinFool, What gun are looking to pocket carry? I can probably do a Kydex pocket holster for you.
  14. Well, I could not even instigate a wobble on the ride in to work this morning. Maybe I imagined it? I did, however find a seeping leak from the left anti dive/fork seal. Not dripping but definitely seeping.
  15. I did not drop the front end for anything. I didn't even remove the fork brace at the fender. Just pulled the calipers, fender and wheel. I added a pump (small hand pump) probably 4-5psi to the forks at Bob's urging. The wobble seemed to be diminished greatly on the ride home from work yesterday. I doubt that little bit of air pressure made the difference. It's more likely, in my view that I either exaggerated the wobble in my mind. I'm putting close to 100 mi./day on her so I'll see how it goes today.
  16. When I got off the plane coming home after Desert Storm/Desert Shield there was a contingent of Vietnam veterans there to welcome us back. They told me there was no way they were going to let one of us come home without a family to meet us.
  17. This winter I delinked the brakes and installed Progressive springs in the front. I also got a new custom seat. All of which necessitated adjusting the rear suspension. So I am running no air in the front and 40psi in the rear. The ride is at least 2" higher than with the old springs @ 12psi in the front and the rear shock air maxed out. When I installed the progressives, I did a non technical check of the head bearings. They felt fine. No hitches and good motion from stop to stop when pushed. The front wheel bearings also felt and sounded good. The bike now has a distinct front wobble at 40mph. Not uncontrollable but worse than I'm comfortable with. She always had a slight wobble when decelerating through 35mph. Very slight, almost unnoticeable. Oh, the trials and tribulations of riding vintage scooters!
  18. Doesn't anyone make an after market fork brace?
  19. Any Gen 1(1983-1993{?}) clutch master cylinder should work. The front brake masters are different MKI to MKII but are backward compatible.
  20. Are you talking about the clutch master cylinder? The clutch slave cylinder? Or the friction clutch assembly it's self? There are a plethora of Venture master cylinders, both clutch and brakes on ebay and the clutch slave is still available new from Yamaha and most vendors(partzilla, boats.net, etc.) PM skydoc_17 here. he may have everything you need.
  21. I listed local guidance, tools and mechanical help available. I don't have a trailer but I do have an 8" bed and ramp on the pickup. Should I also list trailer as available for recovery?
  22. Steven, It looks like the missing post is in the Carb Rebuild Parts thread.
  23. OP, The plastic box in the above picture looks to be the YICS chamber to me. It will have four hoses that go to vacuum ports on the heads. It can be removed and the ports capped.
  24. https://www.ebay.com/itm/K-S-CARB-AIR-CUTOFF-VALVE-SET/311303198756?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649#vi-ilComp I haven't used them, but there they are.
  25. You can build a vin to match the current "requirements" there is a strict formula for them but I don't know it off the top of my head. I seem to recall a thread floating around here somewhere that went through it. I did this for an '81 Yamaha SECA for my insurance agent. Her under writers kept kicking my policy due to an "invalid VIN" so I built the VIN from the formula and there was never another problem. I don't know if this will work for the licensing agency, but it might be worth a try.
