Do you have a price and availability on the Digital Carb Sync complete and in the 3-D printed case? This sure would be more convenient than the Morgan Carb Tune Pro. I love the Carb Tune, but it's a bit bulky and cumbersome for packing.

What he said!! Skydoc_17 delivers the goods! And just for the MK1 riders; You do not have to switch front calipers to see a vast improvement in braking performance. I only switched my front master cylinder out for a MK2 unit and kept the MK1 tubes and calipers with the delinking kit from Earl. Now my brakes are more than adequate and behave like MC brakes should. Yamaha maintains that trail braking is still possible and effective with the linked brakes, but I did not like the feel and did not aggressively trail brake when they were linked. It's good to be able to rely on 30 years experience rather than second guessing myself.

I am sitting about 5 miles from where Mr. Conway was born and raised at this moment. One of my favorite comedic actors ever. His role in McHale's Navy was sheer genius.

Seat Cleaning ??
luvmy40 replied to darylbandy's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
It's vinyl. Use any good vinyl cleaner/conditioner. I'd stay away from Armor All. It's not great for vinyl that gets a lot of sun light and will make the seat too slick. 301 is a good product. -
As far as the brake cleaner goes, you want non-chlorinated for working with plastic and painted areas. All brands make a non-chlorinated version. It's still a very good cleaner but will will not melt your plastic or paint. I have never found a carb leaner that did not eat paint and plastic for breakfast. I don't know how big a PITA removing the ignition lock is on a gen 2, probable quite a large one though. Any way, if you can get it off I'd drop it in an ultra sonic cleaner for a while then hose it down very thoroughly with non-chlorinated brake cleaner or contact cleaner to displace the water or what ever you use in the ultra sonic. Then lube with aerosol dry graphite and reassemble.

Help sourcing parts for a crash rebuild. Honda VTX 1300
luvmy40 replied to luvmy40's topic in Watering Hole
The frame looks good. I'll check those links. Thanks! -
My oldest Daughter's in laws were recently involved in a low speed, head on collision with a car. They are both recovering. OK would be an exaggeration. They will be be OK in a few months. Their son and I would like to fix their 2006 Honda VTX 1300 for them. We need a complete front end. Fork tubes, triple trees, fender, front wheel, etc. If anyone has a line on any parts on the cheap for this, I'd really appreciate a heads up.

Got it. I was not considering customs issues. I'd guess that this is just a bureaucratic snafu. I'd just keep calling the Canadian Post and see if you can eventually get in touch with someone willing to do their job.

I did not want to continue to side track the WDYDTYVT thread so: What are the various reasons to NOT buy a Ford, Chevy, Ram, Nissan, Toyota, etc. Truck? I have had very good luck(so far) with Ford F150 trucks. Sure, the fenders and rocker panels disintegrated after a few years, but mechanically they have all been very good. I never bought one new and I never had what turned out to be the "problem" engines. Until this latest one, that was simply good luck. This one I specifically researched and bought one with an engine that had a good reputation. I am leaning toward a Ram for my next truck. Hopefully my current F150 will last me at least another 6 or 7 years. So then I'll be looking at trucks manufactured from 2015 on, give or take. Are the Hemi Rams experiencing any systemic issues? Same question for any other truck out there. What are your personal experiences?

I do not work for the Canadian post, but I did work for the USPS for 14 years. There is no way to track your first class post. It has no tracking mechanism attached. Even if the Canadian post was willing to, they could not. there is simply nothing to track. It's just another one of millions of pieces of mail with nothing more than a delivery address and a postage mark. Even if you paid extra for delivery confirmation, you will only get a notice when it is delivered to the recipient. It is not scanned en route. I'm not even sure you'd get that on an international delivery. Canada's system may not interface with the USPS.

I rode it to work, 42 miles in the rain. Smiling the whole time!

Just another $0.02 to add. If you look at the statistics, violent crime in general is down dramatically in the USA. Murder rate is down. Something like 80% of homicide is gang related. Mass killings are neither up nor down statistically over the last 100 years. The media coverage of the mass killings, as long as they are perpetrated by non muslims and involve guns that is, has increased a thousand fold over the last 30 years. Most criminals convicted of violent crimes are recidivist offenders. Some have been arrested 20-30 times. Legal gun ownership in the USA has increased by 50% over the last decade or so. The number of violent crimes with a gun committed by legal gun owners is statistically insignificant. The guns ain't the problem.

Engine noise possibly timing chain slap?

Man, that sure sounds like a solid lifter engine with a dry dry top end. -
!988 Venture Royale possibility: Opinions requested.
luvmy40 replied to luvmy40's topic in Watering Hole
I am primarily interested in the plastics. The fairings, side panels and trunk on my '83 need a lot of help. I've done some repairs to make them secure(to a point), but making them look nice is beyond my skill set. I can paint but the sculpting and shaping never turns out for me. The problem is, every time I spend time and money checking out a CL or Facebook add, they turn out to be a waste of said time and money. This one is close enough that it's not too big a deal if it falls through. There is another FB add that has the main fairings, side bags, engine covers and one side of the lowers from a maroon Gen I, Mk I that look to be in very good condition at a very good price. The problem is it's a 4 hour drive and I still have to locate a trunk and the rest of the lowers that match or paint everything. There are a couple members here that have a lot of what I need for sale. The problem is the freight cost is prohibitive for the larger fairing pieces. One member, who I will be meeting soon has a very nice looking '93 for sale. I wouldn't be opposed to buying another Gen I, in fact I plan to at some point. I'm just not sure I'll have the extra scratch in the time frame to make it happen at this time. -
Carb kits are available from multiple sources as well as individual parts still available from Yamaha and other OEM distributors like partzilla.com, boats.net, etc. I would caution you to stay a way from Chinese parts as they rarely pan out and just cost you double the labor + the "discount" original cost when you have to do the job again with quality parts.

There is a facebook market place add for a 1988 Venture Royal not too far from me. About 2 hours drive. The pics are crappy but the guy said it is complete. He was in the process of tearing it down to fully repaint from the frame up and lost interest. He's asking $765.00 OBO My thoughts are to offer a low ball, sight unseen and pick it up to; A) Repaint(if necessary) and reassemble as my "new" daily rider. Thereby making The Beast a candidate bike for bobbing or some other harebrained project. Or B) Transfer the sub frames, luggage mounts, luggage and fairings to The Beast and making the '88 the base for a Frankenstein's monster. Any input?

New front end wobble
luvmy40 replied to luvmy40's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I ordered the o-rings for the anti dive unit yesterday. They are on back order everywhere. Hopefully they don't take too long to get here. I probably have the right o-rings in one of my several o-ring kits, but I'd hate to tear it apart and not have the right size. When I get them, I'll take another look at all the front end stuff. -
Here's a stock pic of my Archery Research AR34 I haven't been shooting it much lately, but I used shoot 3D regularly(informal) and was an avid deer hunter before I started a business. I'll dig her out and get a pic of my set up.

Wow! Sorry to hear that Earl. We'll be praying for you and a full recovery.

:wow: Those candles are so bright I can see them from Ohio!

If older bikes are an option, look at Yamaha's XJ series. 650 and 750 SECA or Maxim models. My '82 Maxim 750 is a very comfortable, easy handling and powerful daily ride. The wife and I have taken several weekend trips on it loaded for camping and it has no problem running 2up, loaded at highway speeds all day/. Solid running bikes can be had for $500.00 or less. I've seen near mint bikes for $2500.00

Nope. Ive got the LCP with the Crimson Trace laser. Like I said though, I can mount your LaserMax and make whatever you want.
