  1. I wonder if it would be possible to mount a small magnet with the reed switch to boost the low power signal from the LED lamp? Or(lets get really deep in this) make an amplifier to run the read switch.
  2. https://www.autozone.com/wrenches-pliers-and-cutters/wrench/duralast-2-pcs-metric-ratcheting-wrench-set/951644_0_0 This may be the best $30 I ever spent.
  3. Yep! That's it. I didn't notice the dirty white walls but I did notice the rear tie still had the blue paint lines on the edge of the tread.
  4. I stopped by my local Yam shop today just to look around. They had a '98 Royal Star Tour Classic with 7500mi on the clock. I figured "What the heck, I'm here. I might as well take it for a spin." I was pleasantly surprised. After hearing about how top heavy the RSVs are and how they have so much less power than the Gen1 bikes, I thought It'd be like riding a beached manatee or something. First, I didn't find it overly top heavy. Now that may be because it is the Tour Classic with no trunk and the rather large, low slung soft saddle bags. Possibly? Second, the seat height was perfect for my relatively short 29" inseam. Third, while I didn't take her out on the highway, there seemed to be plenty of power off idle and she pulled hard though 3rd gear. Low speed handling was no worse than any Harley I've ever owned. I did have a hard time with the foot controls. I kept pulling my feet back to mid ship to brake or shift. I'm sure I'd get over that quickly though. I'm not sure I like the tank console speedo. I've never run one before and I would definitely have to braid or band the beard as it was directed right up into my face by the air flow past the "classic" wind screen and I could not see the speedo at all unless I held my beard to the side! It did pop a bit on decel, but it has shorty V&H mufflers so that may be the cause of that. All in all, I liked it. They are asking $2950.00 for it. I am still wanting a Gen1, MK2, but I may add this to wish list too. Any thoughts or advice?
  5. Kris and I made it home safely if not dryly. It rained on us most of our relatively short ride. It was not really bad, not heavy rain until the last five miles or so. Of course that was because Kris made the comment that the heavy stuff held off for us! We did have a nice swim across a swollen creek in Windham. Water about a foot deep and running fast across the road. Good Times! MD was a blast and Kris really had a great time. Both of us are very happy to have met some new friends and it was great to see everybody again. Thanks to Don and Eileen for hosting us all again. What a great weekend! Thanks to the gentleman who donated the bungee cords when mine were AWOL. I'm sorry but your handle eludes my memory at the moment. A special thanks to Steve for finding my errant screw and to everyone who helped me look for it! Thanks to the Pucster for spotting the pinched wire that blew my main fuse. Thanks Rdawson. Kris really likes the arm rests! BTW, My bungee cords were found in the bottom of my tool bag when we unloaded!
  6. I never could get the hang of shooting instinctive. I have to have an aim reference to even get close past 15 yards.
  7. Still a bit pricey, IMHO but that eBay listing is for the Manifold and the Carburetor. The VIKIMOTOSHOP Etsy listing the Manifold only.
  8. I checked the connection at the wheel and tried to reach up and check at the console but there's no room to get at it without removing plastics. I can't remember if the speedo cable is secured by anything other than the connection at the console or not, but it is not falling free and I can't pull it down/out. I'll rig up a mount for my phone somewhere and run a GPS speedo ap for the ride to MD.

  10. I know have a mission for Maintenance Day, Whoo hoo! I mean, Bummer! The Beast's speedo quit working while out CTFW this evening. Never made a sound, just quit.
  11. I'm going to drop this here as well. Like I said in another thread, if you are going to trailer any bike at any time you should watch this. No chock necessary. Two straps. No suspension compression and solid as a rock. I've been using this method, but not these straps for years. I've never had any issues with movement at all. BTW, I am a belt and suspenders guy so i do have a chock mounted for hauling bikes in the pick up bed. Chaharly is correct in that they are mostly useless on the Gen 1 venture, chock locks that is. The strapping method works perfectly on them.
  12. WOWZY WOW WOWZERS Puc! I would have said " Knock the old bearings out with a drift and beat the new bearings in with a socket with the correct OD". You said it better:big-grin-emoticon::stickinouttounge:

  14. Anyone who will be trailering any bike anytime needs to watch this. I don't use the Tank Straps, but they are well worth the money.
  15. After a bit of searching, I remembered it is skydoc_17 that has the loaner kit. You do need to buy the head cover gaskets from him to use the kit. I have purchased many items from Earl and have to say his quality is excellent and his prices are reasonable. His customer service is unbeatable.
  16. If you promise to send it back when you are done, you can borrow mine. There is also a shim kit from one of the members(can't remember who) that has a tool with it. IIRC it was cost of shipping and add a shim to the kit. Someone who has used it will chime in soon, I'm sure. Do you have a good source for shims? Your local Yamaha dealer should have them in stock as they are still used for other models. My local dealer actually trades them for free.
  17. All is good so far. I knew going back there was going to be some time needed to find a home for me. About 4 months in and I still don't have a title. Not that it's an issue. They way the company works is more like a mom and pop entrepreneurial kind of thing rather than the multi million dollar a year enterprise it truly is. I'll find my place, or make one that suits me.
  18. 7/8" or 1" bars? The ISO Grips are not model specific. Just get the right diameter for your bars. They might come in a couple different lengths, but I don't think so. On a side note; I have genuine Kury ISOs on my '83 Ventue and I have had chicom knock offs on a couple other bikes and I can say it's nearly impossible to tell the difference.
  19. I feel for you Steven! I'm crunching Ranger Candy today and all I did was wheel bearings! Every Crown Vic Police Package I have ever encountered needed the rear end replaced. Most of them had been "repaired" once or twice previously.
  20. So, I started the day as usual with my NY Strip and coffee breakfast. Then off to the wallyworld and local owned grocery to pick up victuals. Got the weekly lawn work done and had lunch while perusing fleabay. Lo and behold, I actually found some plastic bits for The Beast that I sorely need at reasonable prices. The pics look good, but we all know how much that means. After noticing how much I spent on stuff for the bike, I was feeling guilty about not having done some much needed work on the wife's car. I've been putting it off cause it was going to be a PITA. So, off to Autozone for the parts and specialty tools. Then four hours of back breaking, knuckle busting, knee scraping fun! Well, the font wheel bearings aren't serenading Kris any more. Like I said, a very productive day, all in all.
  21. Is it gaining or losing time? There are a couple little buttons next to the clock... They work like magic, kinda:Laugh:
  22. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DZY529X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I just got this one at Amazon. It works well. Nice and small but quickly and easily pumps up to 70psi. I haven't had it long enough to rate it's durability.
  23. Oh, I'm always packin' Well, The guy called me this morning and asked if we could meet today rather than Sunday. I said Sure, loaded the Maxim on the truck, grabbed some of my less often utilized shootin' irons and headed down the road. Only an hour and 20 minutes or so. About half way there he texts me saying he has to run out to grab some stuff but the bike's in the driveway and I could feel free to check it out if he was back yet. I pulled in and there it was. Looked =just like the picture from CL Then I walked around to other side to find the left half main fairing was literal broken in half, the lower on the left side was mostly duct tape and the left side engine cover was hanging on by a wish and a prayer. I looked closer at everything. Nearly all the tabs, flanges and connection points were broken or missing. The trunk had a total of 2 screws combined on both hinges. One of the trunk latch hooks was busted off. The passenger back rest was just flopping loose with the adjuster bar not even in the brackets(at least it was there). The seat wasn't in terrible shape, just the start of the front edge tear. He had left the key in the ignition so I started her up. I have to say the engine sounded very nice. Fired right up no choke and idled very smooth around 900 rpm. Very quiet. The radio worked, but I didn't mess around with the controls much. I switch to ACCY and checked the CLASS system. It seemed to work, though I don't have any experience with it. The automatic Low, Med and Hi setting worked but I could not figure out how to enter the manual mode. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Nearly every piece of the fairing would need replaced or major repair. The trunk might have been fixable. Oh yea, no rear brake. The pedal just dropped like a rock. So here is the description that went with the above pic on CL When will I learn. I am the only person who ever posted something on CL that didn't lie though their teeth. I offered to trade the Maxim for it if he gave me $300.00 He wasn't amused. Well at least I don't have to feel bad that he's going to have to pay $20.00 for a duplicate title. The notary he went to refused to notarize his signature without having the buyer information filled in. His current title is now technically in my name.
  24. I would like to ask that everyone here think good and happy thoughts and keep your fingers crossed for me as I once again foray into the fantasy world that is Craig's List. Yes, I am going to try this one more time. A 1986 Venture Royale is posted for sale or trade about 2 hours down the pike from me. The seller seems to be reasonable in our communications. The pictures look good but not "Glamour Shot", if you know what I'm saying. He is amenable to a pure horse trade. True barter style transaction. I've got what he wants and he's got what I want. I hope. My last CL encounter was , shall we say less than fruitful? Actually, it nearly ended in chaos and destruction. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! OK, it wasn't quite that bad, but close! Anyway, The plan is that we meet up and seal the deal this Sunday. So, like I said keep your fingers crossed!
  25. I have the Harbor Freight manual tire change machine with the motorcycle adapter. I would not say it makes the work effortless, but it certainly makes it easier by an order of magnitude. Be advised, the mount/dismount tool is OK for steel auto wheels but it will destroy your motorcycle wheels. I bought a "duck head" tool head on ebay and attached it to the OE tool bar with carriage bolts and 3/4" plywood. I works well and was cheap. You will also want to bend the rim clamps in so they wrap around the rim better and add either a strap or a pin to stop the wheel from rotating in the clamps.
