  1. Don't forget the carb diaphragm kit from Sirius. Another must do. http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=&model=&part=&partno=SD1X4&search=search&x=26&y=14 Do a fuse box upgrade to blade type fuses early on and save yourself some trouble shooting. On fork seals, go with factory seals. There have been issues with some aftermarket ones. The name Pyramid (?) comes to mind. Too thick. The breather, filter only can run from Emgo (on eBay) to K&M's. Depends on what you want to spend. The poplular R/R upgrade is the Shindengen Mosfet. Several threads around on that subject. Throw a new higher output stator in front that and you're good to go. Swap to a 4 brush starter. THE cure for hot start problem.. We got the suggestions.............. We got the answers.................. And if you ask for advice....................... Ya gone and done did it now. Seriously though.......... we do try to help.
  2. Any of these should work and I think a few others have been found to work also. As long as it's the shorter type it's fine. A plier type filter wrench will be handy to remove the old one. No room for filter end cap socket and some strap wrenches don't fit in there either. It is close with the cross member. 3. Actually you can avoid a lot of the fight putting the fork cap back in. Once the springs are in, cut the spacer so it just comes to the top of the extended tubes, even a little below. As you start the the cap and tighten it the thickness of the cap alone will add a bit of preload. It save the fight. You can always add washers later if you need to boost the preload.

  5. Try this. http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/yamaha.asp
  6. The '83 was different only as far as the timing response on it I belive. It still will run the bike fine and get you home, just not at the same preformance level as a 41R. I swapped an '83, 26H to my '84 to try it and it worked fine for a backup. For what you want to use it for you should be fine. There was at one time a thread around here on the details of the difference.
  7. Nebraska requires a plate and I registered mine. They will stop and check here also.
  8. Just curious. Did the load test do a printout of the results? I had one done a while back that showed the status of the battey and a summary of the "Battey Health". Battery tested as good, showed 12.7 volts and CCA's were still high but the "Health" was only about 25%. Not good.
  9. Sending you a PM http://www.siriusconinc.com/search_result.php?make=&model=&part=&partno=SD1X4&search=search&x=28&y=8
  10. Yep, at 18" those are stock OEM springs. The Progressives are as long as the stock spring AND the long metal spacer AND a heavier coil. I could drive my old forks to the bottom just by jumping up and down on the pegs before changing to the Progressives. Don't even want to talk about hitting the front brakes hard before the change.
  11. Been doing mine every 3,000 miles since I got it 32,000 milas ago. If the bike sits in the cold weather for any length of time over winter storage I change it in the spring before I ride for the season. Kind of a anti-condensation measure. The bike is at almost at 68,000 miles now and holding up fine. I know some people argue the new oils can go much longer without breaking down but so far, as I know, oil still gets dirty as fast as it used to.
  12. Yep, they didn't start putting the attachment tabs on the muffler until '86, MKII, All 1st gen pipes have the same tip shape so the turn downs fit them all, you just have to get creative on how and where to hook up some springs.
  13. gonna miss this one. Haven't even re-installed it on my cell yet. Next time.
  14. YEA!! A wheeeeeeelie bar!!!!
  15. As said, as short as possible without hitting anything, The longer the stinger the more leverage against the front suspension, causing a reduction of front traction. Teter totter effect.
  16. I just sent some info to the provider today on lugs that will work. So....... still waiting. I've updated the list of interested folks on the 1st post of this thread.
  17. Would you come around more often if you had more friends??? Bet ya would Seen ya again soon, right?
  18. This will explain it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46806 It does help, I've done in on mine. But as you have to pull the starter out to do it you're more than half way to putting in a new 4 brush unit. The 4 brush fixes the problem. The things to do: 4 brush unit Upgrade battery cables DEKA AGM Pretty much the best combination to get the best cranking power you can.
  19. Yep, I did. I'm a pirate! Arrrrgggg. I tend to hang onto pics of thing I like the look of. Where's my checkbook? Royalties are due.
  20. Your lead-in made me think of my ex-wife. If any woman needed to be stoned.............
  21. Good point.
