  1. I installed Baron Risers on my bike today in anticipation of riding this weekend (finally). I've read thru the other threads regarding the subject and find no easy solution to my new problem: Throttle sticking on far right turn of the handle bars. Doubtful this will affect normal riding, but low speed parking lot turns could be problematic. Anyone find an easy fix other than taking off the fairing?? I slid my brake about a half inch down and that bundle of cables is fine but I don't see any way I can do the same with the throttle. Removing the fairing has got to be a big PITA. Any other suggestions or advice?
  2. 60's and partly sunny all weekend here up north, I'm going riding, I'm going riding. :dancefool:
  3. After reading some of the glowing comments about Techron I thought I'd give it a try. I checked online at several places and found that Advance Auto has a buy one get one free sale on right now. Equals out to two 20 oz bottles for $12.99 Just an FYI for anyone interested. I bought a couple and they look wonderful on my workbench.
  4. $12 member fee gets you: Meet & eat Information on products and how to's (and NOT to's) Advice from worldly (read old?) experienced people Rides with great people Maintenance days Interesting conversations And some down right funny jokes and stories All in all I'd say: PRICELESS
  5. Totally awesome addition Will come in handy for my trip out east after the VR Rally
  6. RSVP'd - Fish & Rum balls
  7. After 6 inches of new snow on Monday I now have over 3 feet of it on my back deck. If that was the only place it was it'd be great, but it's everywhere here. I'm looking forward to Wisconsin's second season, road construction and mosquitos. Hard to believe that I was riding for two weeks already at this time last year. It's warmed up to 8 degrees here today:depressed: so it's only a matter of time. I'll take a pound of that "ground chuck".
  8. Happy birthday Dan, may your beard continue to grow in proportion to your age
  9. How about shopping pet peeves: Someone walks up behind you speaking loudly and you turn to talk back, only to find out they are on their cell .....and are for the entire time in the store, aisle after aisle.....or at the checkout. Two friends or acquaintances BS'ing blocking the aisle...or an entire family spread across the aisle, forcing you to ask for permission to get through. Too lazy to walk 20 feet to put the cart in the corral, leaving it parked next to your bike instead.
  10. I got a notice from the Fbi (not FBI) that unless I sent $98 to an address in Lagos, Nigeria I faced imminent arrest and loss of all properties. That of course was in a sentence 85 words long without any punctuation. I've also been placed on the Fbi site as a wanted person (I checked and thankfully it's not the top ten most wanted at least) and they are going to plaster my face all over the local news stations as well. All of this was because I failed to register for a $10,500,000 inheritance apparently. The last paragraph of the notice (signed by the Director himself no less is this: Note/ all the crimes agencies have been contacted on this regards and we shall trace and arrest you if you disregard this instructions. You are given a grace today to make the payment for the document after which your failure to do that will attract a maximum arrest and finally you will be appearing in court for act of terrorism, money laundering and drug trafficking charges, so be warned not to try any thing funny because you are been watched. :nanner: Needless to say this one ended up in the recycle bin, but I just had to read it.
  11. How about everone's "moot" point becoming their "mute" point. (Then we wouldn't have to listen to it right?)
  12. Surgery was a success, fixed two hernias, one the size of a baseball. Gonna have to switch to light beers from now on to prevent a reoccurrence.
  13. I shopped around online and Dairyland was the cheapest for me, $186 for full coverage. Foremost wanted $75 more, Progressive was double Dairyland and Geico was double Progressive. Strange how insurance varies from state to state and city to city.
  14. :backinmyday: :backinmyday: Present company excepted??
  15. Here's an article about us older riders getting injured more often and more severely - maybe the stats are skewed because more of us are riding now than before?? http://todayhealth.today.com/_news/2013/02/07/16872906-not-easy-riders-aging-bikers-3-times-more-likely-to-get-injured?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=3
  16. 2012 was a great year, bought my first touring bike, made it to Sturgis Rally for the first time and survived, met some great folk there and on the Leaf Lookers ride this past fall. Depressed that winter arrived and couldn't ride anymore, but 2013 just around the corner and looking good. Until this week that is, busted a gut - literally - have to have surgery in a couple of weeks to repair a hernia. Crappy health insurance is gonna cost me over $1K for that. Then last night my '01 Civic my youngest son drives decides to have the tranny crap out. I'm sure the bill for that is gonna reach $2K at a minimum if I decide to get it fixed. :mo money: I've heard that bad things happen in three's? What's next? Better not have anything to do with my Venture or riding!
  17. A few years back I had a huge red oak die from oak wilt. This oak was about 4 feet in diameter at the base and had a large branch about 2 foot in diameter, about 20 from the ground. I had to take off this branch in order to drop the tree in my yard instead of on the neighbor's shed. I had an extension ladder propped up against the tree safely lashed to the tree, had my safety harness on and wrapped around the tree about three feet under the branch. Safety glasses, gloves, boots, etc., all ready to cut off this monster branch. Chainsaw was nice and sharp and cutting well until about 3/4 of the way thru the branch I heard it start to crack. Kept on sawing until with a loud crack, it split to about 6 feet down below the branch. Of course this was right where my harness was secured, so when the branch started to go down I was yanked forcefully against the tree and the branch kept on going down, pulling me tighter and crushing the air out of my lungs. Of course, no one was out there with me so I was thinking it was getting pretty desperate. Luckily I still had my chainsaw running so I was just about to try to figure out how to cut through the harness when the branch mercifully split again and hit the ground and stopped puling me against the tree. I stood there for a few minutes catching my breath before I dropped my chainsaw to the ground and began my slow descent. Strike One was forgetting to notch the branch underneath where I was cutting. Strike Two was setting my harness below the branch instead of above. Strike Three was not having someone else out there with me. Luckily the Great Umpire called a ball instead of the third strike so I'm around to talk about it. The branch sat there for a good week until I found the courage to go back up the ladder (not forgetting to remedy the three strikes) and take down that branch.
  18. Hate to bring it up but the 3 blind mice....errr refs gave the Seahawks a win they shouldn't have against the Pack. Should their unblemished home record have an * or ** by it? I'd love to see the rematch in Lambeau should they both win out.
  19. I'm pretty sure I saw Roy Rogers do the same type of stunts riding Trigger on TV back in the day

    NY Yankees

I've been a Yankee fan since the early 60's (1964) and can't even think of how many Mickey Mantle or Roger Maris baseball cards adorned the spokes of my bike. (early Harley sound??) You win some you lose some, and this year they lose. I think Yankee haters got their start when Babe Ruth was traded from Boston to the Yanks and it just hasn't stopped since. I'm more of a football fan now but still root for the Bronx Bombers, but not as an avid fan.
  21. Nice choice, that day has been my birthday for the last 58 years:banana:
  22. News article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about motorcycle rider deaths in Wisconsin this year http://www.jsonline.com/business/2012-a-deadly-year-for-wisconsin-motorcycle-drivers-8h75c33-173225031.html Highlights (or low-lights may be a better term) are 102 killed so far, the 4th most since 1986; average age is 48. Speed and alcohol combine for 35% of the fatalities. In 2011, nine Wisconsin motorcyclists died when their bikes struck animals including deer, a turkey, a wolf, a horse and a cow. One rider was killed when a tree fell on him. This year, at least 11 riders have died when their bikes hit deer. There are more motorcycles on the road now compared with years ago - with 303,795 registered bikes in the state in 2011, compared with 175,486 in 2000, according to the most recent Department of Transportation data. Ride safe!
