  1. I bought his helmet last year 'cause I wanted to be able to take a drink or sneak a piece of hard candy on the fly, which was impossible with my full face helmet. I didn't like the fit of the modular helmets I could find in stores so I went with the AFX. Fits fine & I love the flip down sunshield. Cost was a factor as well. I took off the clear shield (Wish I had brought it with on my current trip - would have been a good thing to have in the rain I encountered in WV) and just run with the flip down or glasses. It's a tight fit with the IMC earphones, I just have to bend my ears back up when I put it on. I've got a big head and needed a 2X, but I'm happy with it.
  2. It appears your bike just got a year older, time to renegotiate?
  3. I needed an oil change after getting back from the International (Thanks again organizers!!) and decided to try the Castrol Power RS V-twin (wanting to be like Mike --- eusa1) and checked out the website for the local Advance Auto store. The stuff was in stock and on sale according to the website, but I called just in case. Spoke to the gal and she checked and said they did not have any. I told her the website said in stock and gave her the part # and then she managed to find it. I went to the store and bought 4 qts, but they rang up at full price when the internet site showed 70 cents cheaper. I told her about it but she said that is the internet price. I then told her that they don't ship oil so the internet price has to be the store price as well. She proceeded to expalin that to get that price I had to order over the internet :confused24: I told her that made no sense, that I had to order on the website to pick up at the same store I was at now to get the reduced price. In the end she gave me the reduced price, but it was a confusing, frustrating couple of minutes working with her. I thought for a minute there I would have to return home, order the oil and then return to the store to pick up the already in-stock oil to save $2.80 I'm glad there are so many little smileys to add to this 'cause that's exactly how I felt after this exercise in futility!
  4. I had deck boards laying around so I used those rather than spend $30 on a sheet of treated plywood. I ride solo 99% of the time so I'm lighter than many that tow and ride 2-up. Besides, I needed a lawn trailer anyway
  5. Trailer is officially complete, but it has unwanted hops. I removed the smallest of the three leaf springs, was that the right one?? Should I remove another?? I tried it with 30 lbs air pressure and then down to 22 Lbs, but it still jumps around when I hit medium cracks in the road. It was empty, but as you can see by the pics, it has 5/4 deck boards for the floor, which probably adds 50 lbs weight. Any suggestions?? http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/mm381/frodotwo/P1020330.jpg http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/mm381/frodotwo/P1020331.jpg http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/mm381/frodotwo/P1020328.jpg
  6. Thanks for the starting points:thumbsup2:
  7. I will eventually, but I don't know how big a cooler I want to mount yet.
  8. Finished construction of my HF trailer last night with the help of my buddy who I fondly refer to as "McGyver". Got the 12" tire model, frame all square, 24" added to tongue, joints welded tight and touched up with spray paint, 1 spring leaf removed, new bearing grease, washer added to hitch, wired with new HF LED lights. Ready to roll except for...............one tire wouldn't hold air. All trailer lights checked out OK except for...............rear side markers wouldn't light. Checked the tire today, wasn't the bead, had two pinholes in the sidewall Checked the light assembly to see if there was a loose wire, not only was there no wire, there was no bulb either. In fact, there was nothing there at all, just a hollow cavity where a bulb should have been. Called HF (closest is 35 miles away) and they said sure bring it in, we'll exchange the tire. Told 'em about the sidemarker and they said they would check that as well. Loaded up the defective tire on my bike and away we go Tire exchange went fine, but in checking a different model #60597 LED light set (which looks - strangely - exactly the same as the one I bought #60521) there is no side marker light on that model either. Even though printed right on the package is that they are DOT & FMVSS 108 certified - which requires side marker on the front and rear of the trailer. Guy I talked to had all of one month at the store so he was no help, so I guess I'll have to call corporate on Monday to find out what's going on there. Is there a way to add a bulb to each of the rear side markers?? I'm not sure if I could add the side marker bulb from the OEM trailer set or not. Don't know if that would cause a problem with the LED set or not. Do they make single LED's that I could wire in?? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Not quite finished, car top carrier to be added as well.

  11. I'm moving towards fitting my bike with wiring and hitch to pull a trailer, so far so good. I've struck out in getting hooked up with a trailer. A couple I liked were too far away to consider and one I was on the way to buy but it sold as I was traveling 2 hrs one way. Now I'm looking at the HF route. I've read about 175 threads that exist on this site about the Tag Along, and also make your own. I own a brand new never used Thule Excursion that I'm thinking about using to fashion to a HF 40x48" with either 8" or 12" wheels. I've read about extending the tongue so that's not a problem for me. My problem with this is that the Thule bed is very shallow, about 6" deep and it opens from the end making loading and unloading a little more difficult than from the side. (This pic is not my carrier, just one I found to illustrate) http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/poqac/121026/853r1/6430nlj_20.jpeg It's not real large as far as capacity either, 13 cu ft. HF has a 25% off coupon right now so I could fix up a 8" rig for under $200 with LED lights and a 12" one for about $40 more. My real dilemma is that I may be happier with the Tag Along for about $350 (my absolute max $$$$) w/LEDs and then sell the Thule (It's been sitting unused in my garage attic now for 4 yrs) if I can. I just don't like the narrow depth and opening from the long end on the Thule. I know, logic dictates that if I'm not happy with it now (and it's not even a trailer yet) I won't be happy later. Just wanted to hear a few thoughts. And it's not as if money is no object either, I'm basically a cheapskate at heart and forking out $100-150 more than I have to does not appeal to me (or my retirement pocketbook)
  12. I found this to be the cheapest place for the Barron risers. Took a couple of days to ship and were brand new in package. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Baron-Riser-Extensions-1-5-Chrome-Yamaha-Royal-Star-/231007449555#vi-content I'm 6'3" and even with long arms I always got the neck twinge after about an hour in the saddle and it didn't go away. I now get an occasional twinge, but that's just an annoyance, not real pain.
  13. SO, today I was spending some time trying to fit my newly purchased WOLO on my bike, (which I managed to do, but not real happy with how it fits in the old horn spot). I removed both pos & neg screws and when I had it all laid out properly, I went to reattach all the terminals. My pigtail for my battery buddy disappeared. Gone, poof!! I checked everywhere I could see or reach and it's nowhere to be found. I went to the gas station and filled up and then retraced my ride hoping that maybe it could have fallen thru the "cracks" somehow, but no it's gone:confused24: I've got my gremling bell prominently mounted, but I think I hear them laughing :rasberry: at it.
  14. It was a great time even though 30% chance was pretty much every 15 minutes! Thanks for the great time and birthday cake Sharon & Orlin!! Remember everyone....what happens at Orlins stays at Orlins.....right Billlllly See you all in a couple of weeks......or maybe sooner!
  15. OK glad you didn't get hit as hard as you feared. I'm still a go!
  16. Ahhhh, mystery solved. This explains why I can't spit off to the side when riding at highway speed. Did that once (and only once) only to have saliva coating the inside of my windshield. Lesson learned as they say.

    flying car

You can have the heli-car, whole lotta shakin' going on there. I got rid of the vibrations when I traded my Suzuki Boulevard in favor of my RSMV.
  18. Congrats & best wishes!!
  19. I put the 1-1/2 inch Baron risers on and the cables are a tad short. I'm not real happy with the possibility of the throttle locking wide open when the bars are over all the way to the right. I tested that in neutral and the throttle took off. I'd hate to have that happen while in gear, say in a parking lot while turning at a slow speed. That aside, I'm pleased with the difference they make so far, rode a couple hundred miles and neck ache was mostly gone.
  20. My "wish" list includes installing a new horn/wiring and likely new brake/throttle cable due to adding risers. Don't know if my carbs need tuning or not?
  21. OH the shame
  22. Found the best price on a dual Sena SMH10 communicators. Pulled the trigger tonight and saved about $60 and more from other web sites and brick & mortar shops. $228.50 plus free shipping on this eBay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140957366122?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  23. Thanks much for the info!! All this help and advice for only $12
  24. So where do I find a longer set of cables, I've been googling and find plenty of stock length cables, but nothing a little bit longer?
  25. So does that mean disconnecting them at the throttle housing or just trying to slip them around to another position?? Thanks for the replies!
