  1. It could be that the other 2 that make up 8 are for the front header pipes coz you have to loosen or remove them to drop the collector and in so doing, they may get damaged or may just be worn out and need replacing anyhoo. When I did my collector on both the '85 & the '87, I replaced all the gaskets. It wouldn't hurt to get all you "may" need... just in case.
  2. How many? 1 @ each exhaust inlet to the collector (that's 4) 1 @ each exhaust outlet from the collector (that's 2) Total of 6 The inlet ones are made of a soft material. The outlet ones are either copper or brass. Get 'em from Yamaha and I believe they're 20 bucks a piece? (NO ... get 'em somewhere cheaper)
  3. lifters? assuming that were true, then wouldn't one hear more than one thing ticking?
  4. have you tried gas or diesel fuel? When I was a kid we used to carve a small piece of wood in the shape of a boat.. then we'd smear pine pitch on the back and stick it in the water... it would actually propel the wood. We got a lot of that pitch onto ourselves ... can't recall how we got it off ( I was about 8 at the time )
  5. Now THAT I would like to have seen!
  6. oh yeah ... Hongcouver ... You will see more exotic cars and SUV's in this city than anywhere and guess who's driving them ... and then guess where they get the money ... Correct on both counts!
  7. heh ... with this area being one of the highest drug producing areas in north america and maybe even beyond that, we're getting pretty used to "gang-style" killings. http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Abbotsford+Mission+highest+capita+homicide+rate+Canada/1812183/story.html Follow some of the links in the above. This one isn't all that far from my house ... http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Police+seek+help+solving+targeted+murder+Burnaby/1809634/story.html
  8. I got the RK's on mine ... they sound good but I'm going to drill them out for a bit more "volume". That, along with the tunes, a 3/4 helmet, and running at higher revvs should all but drown out any bothersome engine noises LOL ... now what to do with that whine commin from the back seat??? (hope she doesn't read this post ... sorry darlin... I'm just joshin)
  9. Can you be more specific on the exact surgery? What is it called? What exactly do they do? My wife is constantly stuffed up, has long-lasting sneezing "attacks", is constantly coughing to clear her throat because it interferes with her speaking & voice. I would really like to see her get rid of this.
  10. TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
  11. no, that's not the noise I was referring to ... the ticking happens AFTER the engine has started. Fuel pump has already done it's thing and generally, it only ticks for a couple seconds ... usually around 3-5 ticks.
  12. I've owned an '85 and an '87 before this '06. I couldn't believe how noisy the engine on the '06 is compared to the other 2. Essentially, it's the same engine. I compared to to a few other's and most sounded the same except for a couple that were quieter. I also went to the dealer and had the mechanic listen real close ... this guy knows his stuff and he says that's how they sound. It seems like every moving part can be heard. Mine also has a fairly loud ticking sound when I first start it ... lasts for about a minute...maybe 2 at the most. I heard that is associated to the cam chain adjuster which is hydraulic. I figgure, what the heck ... it's got a warranty so if something is wrong, Yamaha can fix it. So, I just drive it and lately, now that I got a few miles on it, I've been crankin it on pretty good sometimes. Hit the rev limiter a couple times yesterday...on purpose, just to see if it would (or wouldn't) blow up! LOL I've also been training myself to run it at higher revvs (stay in a gear longer) to get away from that gawdawful whine ... seems to be working. I've also stopped wearing my half helmet and staying with the 3/4 as that cuts out a lot of the engine noises.
  13. Well, I right-clicked it and chose Save Picture as... and I got whut I got .. a small pic LOL Send me the full-size one and I'll make a new bike for ya. Nevermind... I got the BIG ONE now... LOL Sorry, edges are a bit rough. First pic is blacked to the edge of the ring.. second is blacked to the inside (edge of headlight)
  14. I would but you're one year too early LOL
  15. here ya go but the pic is so small it was hard to do a decent job... maybe email me an original file that is bigger and I can send a copy back to ya.
  16. Thanks for the offer but I would still want the chrome part from the edge in towards the headlight. Here's a pic of what one might look like with the driving lamps installed.
  17. Interesting comment as I am not totally sold on the added driving lights (passing lights) that most put on... to me they don't seem to belong with that particular fairing (like they do on the Harley). Having said that tho, I like the fairing of the G2 and I think I even like it more with the change in the headlight shroud ... it looks much more streamlined (to me).
  18. Is it possible the magnet was pulling the cages up to the light?
  19. Me neither ... but if I had a second shroud, I would, just to see how it would really look. Also think it would be kinda neat if a guy could go one step further and come up with a "frenched-in" look. Heck, might as well go all out and modify the fairing to incorporate driving lamps (aka passing lamps) ... geeeesh ... it would almost look like the new Kaw Voyager then! LOL
  20. ahhh yes... some of those days are comming back to me now (after viewing that link)... those good ole self-tapping drain plugs I used to use because some jerk before me stripped the threads in the oil pan. How'd they do it? Probably cross-threading is my guess (as opposed to over tightening). Yes... a good discussion...which I do enjoy taking part in...why? Because there's ALWAYS something to learn. It's a good thing tho that the world does not adhere to "best practise" in all things it would apply to. Regarding the different torque spec for the 2 drain plugs... possibly the metal on the diff (I'm assuming that's what you mean by rear drain plug) is softer than the metal at the bottom of the engine? Very GOOD Point! I do tend to forget that this is a publicly viewed forum.
  21. Ever think that chrome headlight shroud gives your 2nd gen a "cyclops" look? Here's a couple pics of mine I "cleaned up" (rather quickly) .... looks a whole lot cleaner to me now. I was contemplating getting a second chrome shroud and painting it to match the scoot just up to the forward edge and wondered what it would look like. I think I like it! 3rd pic of course is the stock one.
  22. Yes, I test rode one 2-up. Sorta feels like a luxury car ... easy to maneouver ... has good power ... comfortable (for me). Wind buffeting and uncomfortable for Nina ... tried raising/lowering the windshield... didn't help. The passenger footrests were too high for her ... and ya can't lower them nohow. I wouldn't buy one because .... (scroll down) They're just plain UGLY
  23. yep...and I'm just throwing my opinion in just coz I have one ... not trying to force anyone's choice one direction or the other.
  24. BTW Goose, I do respect your knowledge and I'm not suggesting you're wrong ... just throwin some of my own "common sense" into the "oil pan".
  25. heh... I've worked along side of a lotta "Joes" in my life who've never used a torque wrench on an oil drain plug neither. In fact, I don't believe any automotive instructor I've ever had suggested using a torque wrench for an oil drain plug ... but then again, that's going back a lotta years.... Head bolts, intake manifold bolts, crank bearing cap bolts, con rod cap bolts, etc, etc... things where torque affects proper seating of a gasket or a bearing to ensure evenness of pressure, prevent warpage, and the like .... yes... they need to be torqued and in proper sequence but an oil drain.... c'mon ... if a person is any kind of a "wrencher", they should know what's the right tightness of such an item without having to use a torque wrench. Those oil drains that have been screwed up are from reason's such as exactly what the original poster mentioned, and from people who have no clue. Sorry.
