Yama .... you sure opened a "can of worms"! This thread is a very interesting read!
-
Yes, I have them on both front and rear. Haven't been on all that long to fully determine how good/not good they are. We just did a 1500+ km ride over the weekend and I was pushing it hard in some of the corners .... they felt fine for that. During the trip to Kruisin the Kootenays (appx 2000 km), we hit rain a few times and they seemed fine for that. The reason for my thread on this is that lately I've been noticing a "howling" sound from the rear while running straight up around 110 km/h. It goes away at higher or lower speed as well as when taking a corner.

Some here get the impression Yama was treated badly .... The main dealer had no one available to work on his scoot and he was referred to their other shop .... what's wrong with that? The other shop OFFERED to try and fit him in if he could leave the bike... what's wrong with that?? What should he do in the meantime with no ride...?? do like anyone else who takes their vehicle in for service and has to leave it ... walk, take a bus, take a cab, rent a car. I really don't see the problem here. I guess I should ride up to Kelowna one day and check out the attitudes of their service staff coz it wasn't stated that they had a bad attitude. They were only doing their jobs which was taking care of their existing customers first and OFFERING to fit Yama in...which they probably would have done if he left the bike for a while.

Yama, maybe you got a whiff of the smoke from all the forest fires and it clouded your senses, put you in a snarly mood or something ... maybe the ribbing from your Honda riders on top of that .... ??? Anyway, there are numerous places to get an oil change. Nobody who has a shop regardless if it's the dealer chain (ie Yamaha) of your bike or not, is obligated to shuffle all their other jobs aside just to change a guy's oil just because he's on a road trip. Granted, it may only be a 15 min job, but think of it .... 15 min for you, 15 min for the next guy that show up.... and what about the other 5 guys.... next thing you know the job that has been in the shop for the past 2 weeks that the parts finally arrived for that he PROMISED would be out the door a week ago and have been sweet-talking the owner for the past week offering him some special deal because of it.... now has to be put off for another day. It just doesn't happen "just because". If the shop has the time and the manpower, they'll do it... otherwise, go down the road to the next guy who ain't so busy. ... like maybe the Honda shop?

Not true... I know of at least one person who has the same brand of tire. These specific tires are a "Sport/Touring" design and not the same as "stock" tires
-
Anyone running these tires on the rear? ... Do you get a "howling" sound at certain speeds? Does it stop or diminish when in a corner?

My area (Vancouver, BC, Canada) is very "international" meaning there are a lot of people from a lot of different countries here... and many of them have a lot of money... so, I'm pretty sure every one of those exotic cars run around our streets... and then some that weren't in that quiz. Generally they go by so fast a guy really has no time to get a good look at them.

well, I for one "give a hoot" coz I'm bored at work and am enjoying entertaining myself and furthermore, my feathers get ruffled when dealers or anyone try to sell me a line of B/S . play the game coz this is all it is. :D
-
"69" .... no matter which way ya look at it
-
yep, that's what I quoted back to him and then I said I was emailing Yamaha Canada for verification... and he said "feel free to do so as that's where we got our information from". I guess since I am at work and have nothing better to do, this will keep me entertained for the balance of the day LOL!
-
So I emailed him and he said "we checked into it. It's 101HP" So I emailed him again saying "well thanks for doing that ... and you can provide me with written proof of that? Specifically how is that HP measured ... " And he came back with.. "However they always measure HP is how they measured this HP, I'm sure." He's FULL OF IT .... (I'm sure) LOL
-
Yes, I think they are "full of it" too... but I just feel compelled to call them on it.... like show me the proof sukkah! LOL I seem to recall this being the same dealer/saleman who, a year ago, tried to tell me my '06 RSMV was a US model because it had the studded seats...either that or I changed them coz according to him, the studded seats were not available on Canadian product. Yeahsureright!!
-
Yamaha Canada advertises the 2010 RSV as having 98 HP... same as the USA as far as I know. As far as I know (correct me if I am wrong), all RSV and RSTD engines are the same since 1999?
-
Local (Vancouver, BC Canada) dealer is advertising a used 2006 RSTD rated at 101 HP. I questioned them about this stating it should be 97HP. They emailed back that in the US it is 97 but in Canada it's 101 HP. Anyone ever heard of this??... I haven't.

Years and years ago .... maybe around 1980 I bought a 1977 Chev van .... no factory warranty left so I bought the "third party" used vehicle warranty. Two weeks after I got it, the rear end crapped and it had to be replaced. The waranty covered it no problem and I think I had a $50 deductible. Dealer looked after all the paperwork.

DITTO THAT!!! After all the B/S and expense my ex & I went through, basically losing everything and going thru bankruptcy, she and I are friends and we both wish we'd done it a simple way. Problem is, when it's happening, nobody thinks clearly.
-
I'm 63, got my '06 RSMV 1.5 yrs ago with 1,297 kilometers...it now has over 26,000. Started riding when I was 12 but officially since I was 22.
-
I think I shoulda thought that and kept my trap shut
-
it would appear that many have had similar "issues" ..... but not with a Zumo ... then again, "Zumo" could be used in a number of ways... :rotf:

I was thinking more about stopping the verbal directions ....
