Seeing that the TPS affects the ignition timing, I was thinking. (uh oh) My Kaw ZRX has Ktric which is a throttle postion sensor also and it retards timing at certain RPM's so a lot of people just disconnect it (me too) and it just runs better by NOT retarding the timing.
Was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this. I might try it if this damn snow melts!
This is and old thread I ran into but I suspect without the lower fairings on, the problem was air was hitting the bowl vent lines that are hooked to the air filter housings. They are there to get a neutral or static pressure reading. Without it the bike will run like crap when moving.
Carry on.
You've added a K&N to get more air in, right? Openig the air box can help too, but it might require some carb changes. Mine's a 2nd gen, but opening the air box inlet hole by 50% (with K&N's) with one size larger slow jets made a noticable improvement in performance.
I've been wanting to do the same thing for a couple of years now. Couldn't find one in desent shape for cheap so ended up with a ZRX1100 to fix up and it's been a blast to ride now that it's done. Have to do that eventually though!
I'd have to test ride a Statoliner Deluxe first to make that call. Another RSTD would definatly be in top 3 though. Triumph Rocket Touring as #3. It has very similar styling cues as a RSTD. I don't want to limit myself.
So many bikes, so little time left!
Ya, take a look at stratoliners. Hear they are much easier to handle. Raider, road star and strato have pretty much same great engine I think.
Weight is my only complaint on the royal stars, 2nd gen anyway.
Welcome. I too have a '00 ZRX1100, love it, and '06 RSTD, love it. Any Royal Star will be comfy for the fiancé, but "THEY" say first gen's are faster. I rode one and it was a dog. OK it needed a tune-up badly, but hey!
Those look realy nice but how about when it rains? Kinda unprotected in that sense. Seen other bikes put pods or exposed filters like that and hear a lot of complaints about rain or water intrusion.
Performance on the other hand, let these bikes breath with correct jeting changes and .
Opened the filter opening 50% more (k&n's with bub's) and changed out slow jets and WOW. Lovin it now.
I couldn't find a complete windshield under $400 so I made some brackets (1/8" alum) to hold a Memphis Shades slim I had laying around. Trimed up smallish. Will be nice when it warms up a bit. I can send you a drawing if you want to make some yourself.
I know, shape is just something I came up with. An aquired taste..............
I've seen 2 different firing orders listed during a search.
1-3-2-4 and 1-3-4-2.
Is 1st and 2nd gen the same? Mine is 2nd gen.
Just putting an excel cheat doc together. Tired of rumaging though manual for little stuff.
I just took off the side cover on the water pump as that's where the drain bolt goes to. It has a o-ring type gasket so it just bolts right back-up. One bolt has sealant on threads though. Easy peasy.
I've had both. 99 RSV to get my wife to ride. She wouldn't. Loved the bike but didn't need the trunk all the time and unchangable fairing, sold it for RSTD. Love it more. Have different windshild (MS slim cut down) and painted the stock WS to match. Looks much better IMO. Made Q.D.flat bed for it when needed and will be adding an gl1100 trunk (Q.D. too).
Just can't do all that with a RSV.
