  1. Thanks guys.
  2. Where is the rear brake reservoir located?
  3. Thanks guys will do and let you know
  4. Bike ran great all last season and beginning of this one. Lately, it seems that when it gets warm, about half way up on the temp gage, it starts to run rough. From a stop it hiccups a bit then takes off OK, and if I slow around a corner in 2nd gear it does the same as I pull away and accelerate. Is there something that is heating up and causing this?
  5. So I jumpered the fan switch as suggested and the fan works fine. Could it be that the sending unit for the temp that triggers the fan is inoperative? How does that thing determine when the fan should be on?
  6. Here's something weird, I noticed as the bike got hot, not even close to red zone but about 2/3rds of the way it started to run bad, missing, sluggish. Any idea what that might be about? Seems to run fine cold and until it gets to this 2/3rds area. Thanks
  7. Can someone explain the coolant drain cock and it's purpose? Also my fan came on today but after I shut it off and turned the key to on without starting? Don't thin k it was on before that though. Thanks
  8. Thanks guys, you are a wealth of information!!
  9. I only remember one time when the fan came on. You're saying it only comes on as it approaches overheat condition? I don't think it came on this time. Is there any way to check that it's connected and functional?
  10. Went for a 400 mile ride last Saturday, got stuck in some traffic and it was a ninety degree day. Noticed the bike stated running rough as the temp increased, never got to red line. but close. Changed the coolant next day. Not sure if that's the fix but figured I'd try that first. Noticed coolant reservoir was empty, reloaded that too, Would that have had any bearing on my overheat situation?
  11. Okay, wired up the vacuum motor like the manual says , it produces vacuum and closes the actuator, if I take a wire off , the vacuum motor stops, actuator goes back to fully open. The manual says wait 5 seconds if it goes back I need to replace the vacuum unit. Does that sound right to you? Wish I could simulate actual running conditions. Should the vacuum motor be able to hold the actuator in place, without running?
  12. Bought a 1988 Venture Royale June 0f 12. Have a 1982 CB900 Custom , another sweet ride, but never had a cruiser before. Put a couple of 500 mile rides under my belt last summer on the VR and could not believe how comfortable it is. I agree with you, it's pretty effortless. Other than being a bit top heavy, I love this bike. She's a blonde too. You know what they say, Blondes have more fun.
  13. Great bike if you're 5' 8" or shorter. Everyone I know that's 6' that bought one ended up going to a V twin within 6 months. Just not enough leg room and that fixed seating/leg position is tiring. I don't want to go ape **** over my 1988 Venture, but I've done a couple of 500 mile rides and felt fresh and ready for more when done. The bike is really comfortable to my 6'-2" 205 pound frame. Whoops, maybe I did go ape ****, sorry.....
  14. How many of you guys ride in the Toys for Tots parade in Chicago? Thought about doing it, wondering how many have and how they felt about it. Thanks Ed 1988 Venture Royale
  15. That's what it looks like and air fitting. But I have a Royale with air compressor and controls in fairing. Thanks
  16. What is the fitting you can see if you look down between the handlebars and the fake tank shroud on the right side? Looks like an air fitting? Anybody know?
  17. Anybody out there understand how the damping control works? What does it activate? Is it mechanical or electronic? Thanks Ed
  18. I will try the procedures mentioned. I'm aware of the butt to seat method, but being 6'2" not sure I can fold up to the degree required to do it. On gravel it gets even worse. Any taller riders out there with suggestions? I know---don't drop it in the 1st place, but it happens. Thanks Ed
  19. Anybody ever drop one of these bad boys? I've dropped mine twice and was unable to pick it up myself either time. No damage done, fell over on the bars, but still a bit embarassing. Once on a gravel driveway(turned into newly resurfaced drive) and once in my driveway. I have a 1988 Venture Royale, not sure if it makes a difference. Anybody out there have any tricks or the secret to getting this thing back up when you're alone? Thanks Ed
  20. Actually I got lucky. There is another mounting bracket on the opposite side and I remounted it there, had enough cable to pull to other side and all good. Only need the upper half of antenna, guess it came apart when it came down. As far as the break goes, it was right at the weld to the chrome frame that supports the the rear luggage box( if that's what it's called) Thanks for the help though.
  21. Anybody know where I can get an antenna and bracket? Mine broke las t week while doing a 400 mile run thru Michigan. Thanks
  22. Tried snipping the wire ends at the plug--no change after start up. Ohmed out the ignition coils--got 3.3 ,also pullled plug off the back of the TCI and checked ohms on the pickup coils-all check out good. Note:this may seem like a stupid question but I'm assuming because I'm looking for a fault on the left (2) cylinders , I'm checking components on the left side IE: TCI plug and coils. Anybody got any suggestions?
  23. Ok Guys, Looks like I'm running on 2 cylinders.Pulled both caps off left side and no difference in idle. Left side from riders point of view. Pulled battery and box out and can see coils and TCI unit. All the screws are aimed forward so I guess you need to pull the fairing. How difficult is that. Is there anyway to pull the coils and TCI without removing it? Noticed the coils are stacked in pairs towards front, doesn't look like you can get to any of them for testing, but maybe I'm wrong. Hope so. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Also what are the cylinder numbers and locations?

  25. Hi, I have a 1988 Venture Royale, and have questions. When you say your mileage dropped to 30 and now you're going to the garage, What are you going to do to fix it? Bought mine in June 2011, the previous owner said it only gets 30MPG. He was right, long trips, around town, always 30MPG, maybe up to 32. I have also been putting in premium, thanks for the heads-up. What needs to be done? Thanks for any info you can offer. Ed
