  1. I need something like this to block all those phone calls from India and Nigeria etc. @Freebird is this why the last couple weeks the site has been going down. I have had maney occasion were I go to get on and it comes back site not found.
  2. What about getting wet in the rain do they take a long time to dry out? One thing I hated about jeans was getting caught in the rain and being stuck carting a gallon of water around the rest of the day. I have taken to wearing Hikers pants because they dry quick although no protection should you go down.
  3. If second gear is skipping my personal opinion is just do like Puc and double shift from 1st Directly into 3rd. For normal riding I usually skip shift anyway 1 - 3- 5. Only time I go through all the gears is when I wanna crank her out say to pass or catch up to the group after being left behind at an intersection or some such thing. These days at least here in Ontario the cost of doing second gear does not really justify the expense since the resale value of these bikes has really dropped over the last few years. The other issue at least here in Ontario is when taking possession of the bike from another owner they are required to pass a Safety inspection and a failed second gear could cause it to fail inspection.
  4. Are you still trying to pull that old bluff. By now everyone knows you just love us Kanuckians . I heard tell you even shed buckets of tears cuss you missed us so bad at the Niagra Shores get together BTW They did send me back my deposit. :canada::canada::bighug:This one is for you ya big softy.
  5. Point of interest back in the late 60's early 70's ford would install a gauge called a motor minder. The idea being that by driving with the guidance of this gauge, a driver could conserve fuel. Guess what, this motor minder is just a vacuum gauge, dressed up with different colour bands at different vacuum readings. Green being your most fuel efficient range to drive in to save on gas. I still have a couple of these gauges which these days I use as shop tools when I need a vacuum gauge for trouble shooting
  6. Bank account ? what Bank account? Can't I just ship them my mattress and have them ship it back to me with the cash deposited inside
  7. If you can see your scoots front wheel you ain't lost yet.
  8. The smartest man is not the one who knows everything but the one who knows there is still much to learn.
  9. well it definitely is something to consider but consider this also. A) the bottle seals up tight they do not vent. B) I have carried them in my backpack during many week long backcountry portaging canoe trips as well week long hiking trips on numerous occasions and never ever had a problem with fuel odour in my backpacks or my clothing. But if venting were a concern you can always make up brackets and mount them to the outside.
  10. Another option is the MSR camp fuel bottles. They are only one liter made of aluminum so won't expand but a pair of them should be no problem to put in any saddle bag and should at least give you enough fuel to get to a gas station https://www.msrgear.com/ca/stoves/stove-accessories/msr-fuel-bottles/msr-fuel-bottles.html
  11. Boy not sure How I got so luck but just received this slap a smile on your face email from WHO (World Health Organization). And I don't even own a business Mmmm:think: Wonder if I need to start a business before I can collect or if it has to be a pre-existing business
  12. You may notice a slight increase in fuel consumption with the gear ratio change and yet ironically You may notice a slight improvement in fuel consumption while pulling a trailer. This is because with the lower gear ratio you won't need to roll on the throttle as much while pulling the trailer as before the gear change. You may want to upgrade your clutch as well. The cheapest way is to remove the innermost partial friction disc with its two thin washers with a full friction disc and replace the compression spring disc with a beefer one. Sky Doc sells a kit for this. The other option is to replace the clutch with one of the barnett clutches. I replaced mine with the barnett carbon fiber clutch kit and love it. https://www.barnettclutches.com/1321/yamaha/0/0/2000-yamaha-xvz13-royal%20star%20venture-midnight%20venture.html
  13. There is no reason why should not be able to install the rear drive as one piece but it may be easier to slide shaft in first then the pumpkin Don.t forget the spring which sits in the pumpkin and pushes the shaft forward. Finger tighten the four bolts. You don,t want it to fit too loose were it is sloppy, but just loose enough that the tube can rotate slightly as you tighten the axle nut. Install the back wheel make sure the washer is to the outside of the caliper bracket. Install and tighten the axle good and snug but don,t try to fully tighten it. Then tighten the four axle housing nuts/bolts. Finally finishing torquing the axle nut to its final torque spec. This should ensure that everything lines up nicely.
  14. Recently we bought a bag of pretzel dough buns from walmart. Now we have all seen the warning label "MAY CONTAIN NUTS" but would you ever suspected that it would be a STEEL NUT?
  15. I have seen some nasty roads and even backwoods footpaths on the venture 1st gen and came through Ok. Make sure your comfortable riding standing up on the foot pegs for the really rough stuff and as mentioned earlier though I did only have E3 tires and managed OK only because the terrain was dry a more aggressive adventure tread would definitely be advisable
  16. Ist time I dropped a bike was my 1975 250 canam TNT, It was being stubborn and would not start so I ran down the side of the road with the bike beside me then jumped on it side saddle to bump start it, only to flop over and into the ditch. The second time was when I came home on my 400 Kawasaki first I noticed the good looking girl next door watching me, second noticed the car ramps I had left in the driveway. So like any young hot blooded youth would do I decided a little showing of was definitely called for. Gave it some throttle with the intent of doing a little jump off the car ramp. Bike went further than I expected and I crashed into the closed garage door. All I can say is I definitly got her attention who could not stop apologizing for her inability to stop laughing. Body and bike where Ok. EGO badly bruised.
  17. I get your point but I would like to see or hear the guy that isn't seeing or hearing me just in case.
  18. I am not saying that MiCarl is wrong and I agree that most likely the Reg/rec would probably be at fault. I am Just saying that if there is resistance due to a poor connection or a bad spot in the wire somewhere, The voltage signal which the reg/rec receives to monitor battery condition would mislead the regulator into overcharging the battery and that I suggest a simple check of the possibility of this condition would be prudent before replacing an expensive part. My theory is if your going to be wrong pick the cheapest thing to be wrong about first. In 50 years as a Mechanic I have seen numerous mechanics constantly jump to conclusions, replace alternators with built in regulators or external regulators (even engine control modules which in a big rig is easily $6,000.00) only to end up with the same issue. Then go back and do a proper diag to find the problem was a 10 cent terminal gone bad or a section of wiring gone green. All I am saying is take the extra 20 minutes or so to make sure. Chances are it will be the reg/rec but suppose you did find a wiring fault you just saved yourself a pretty penny.
  19. I disagree Don Ball joints are part of the required safety inspection in Ontario, therefore it is reasonable to expect the truck was properly safety-ed. The dealership is actually quite fortunate that Carl had it replaced. Had Carl Taken the truck to the MTO in the condition he received it, the dealership would have faced a fine as well as put through an Audit in which they will go back at least three years to look for more discrepancies. Each discrepancy found would of resulted in additional fines and if serious enough possible loss of their inspection license. Oooh your really rubbing salt into this one. Even whispering the word Ford around @Marcarl could get you an ear full, that would make his speechifying seem like a two word comment.
  20. Interesting post. However even though I know some ride with earplugs I always felt that doing so was somewhat unsafe since it would impair your hearing while riding. As a matter of fact in Ontario it is illegal to wear double head phones or ear buds while driving as it is considered a safety issue. So I would be inclined to think the same would apply to ear plugs.
  21. I love that song myself. I like even better this story about the origin of the American Anthem. It makes you think of two things 1) Why allowing the flag to touch the ground would be such a disgrace. 2) I wonder how many of today's American kids are taught the story behind their National anthem so they can really appreciate it and what the flag symbolizes, or are they just made to blindly memorize the song without any real understanding.
  22. The sad part is the average person does not go back over a vehicle the way Carl did and I have seen ball joints let go. So how does this fare for your average customer with absolutely no mechanical knowledge, who assumes he is buying a fit vehicle.
  23. It was quite a few years ago that Don asked for a small fee to become a supporting member to VR which pretty much all of us did not mind paying in order to keep a clean site and for Don's time and effort to maintain the site and when I bumped into Sonny at a Timmies Outside Hamilton. Like I said earlier he was so bitter and handed me such a rant that I had to leave the store. I cannot believe that after all this time he is still holding on to that grudge. By now a true adult would see that the major majority do not and did not have an issue with the $12.00/yr dues and would move forward instead of continuing with this petty attitude.
  24. Either way you look at it both systems have three clear similarity's 1) The wealthy run the country 2) The middle class financially supports the country 3) The lazy milk the country
