  1. Your not alone on this cowpuc I too often cruise my 1300 along at less than 1500 RPM in 5th and was still able to accelerate even if there was a slight up Hill grade without the need to down shift. Does the bike just get up and go under full throttle? No, but it does gather speed. Now granted if I need to quickly get up and move I need to drop 1 or two gears but for just a lazy comfy cruise along 5th gear suits me just fine. I will sometimes shift 1,3,5
  2. See if you can get hold of a pressure tester and pressurize the cooling system. Start with a cold engine at room temp and leave it sit for a several hours even overnight if you can. Check the pressure to see if it drops. Also park on a dry spot or slide something under the bike so you can see if there are any drips after awhile. You may have to make an adapter out of an old rad cap for this purpose. Hate to say it but if you cannot see an external leak you may have an internal one, though I do believe they are very rare on these bikes. After you have had pressure on the cooling system for a good spell preferably all day or overnight pumping it up if it is dropping try cracking the oil drain plug to see if any coolant comes out of the crankcase. DO NOT crank the engine over while your are performing these tests as you want the water and oil to separate if in fact there is water in the crankcase. Next if no answers are found here then drop the pressure on the tester and fire up the engine to see if it builds pressure on its own. There will be some build up as the engine warms up but you want to watch for is a drastic build up. You let off some pressure once the engine warms up and watch it again for pressure build up while hot. Also if you have run the bike for a spell Check your oil while and see if it turned milky or has milky streaks in it. sometimes if there is enough coolant in the oil you can smell it.
  3. Based on some wiring jobs I have seen over the years its sometimes better to just chop the whole mess out and rewire from scratch. Some people really do create birds nests with their wiring technique's and its just plain simpler to start over with a clean slate than to try to decipher what they were thinking at the time.
  4. Passing lights and driving lights are the same versus fog lights. Passing / driving lights are more along the lines of high beams and in some states and provinces have to be wired so they can only be turned on during high beam operation. The term passing light comes from the fact that some people flash their high beams or driving lights to let another driver know they tend to pass. On the other hand fog lights have a narrow horizontal beam designed to allow you to see the road without glare back from rain or fog. These are usually tied in with the low beams so they can only be turned on while the low beams are on, because in some states and provinces it is illegal to drive with only the fog lights on. You will often see were a vehicle has both driving lights and fog lights , the driving lights switch on and off with the high beams if the driving light switch is in the on position and the fog lights will switch on and off with the low beams if the fog light switch is in the on position. As stated earlier, in some states and provinces it is a legal requirement that the lights be wired up to function in this manner.. However having said that Motorcycles don't seem to have to adhere to this requirement the way other vehicles do, though I would imagine if an officer in one of these jurisdictions really wanted to lay charges he probably could.
  5. It means get a good set of hearing protectors
  6. During the riding season I would not spend the extra money on premium gas. I find these bikes actually run better on regular anyway I know mine does. But when storing the bike for winter, then I look for alcohol free gas and even then I wonder if its worth it as Seafoam or any other good quality gas stabilizer is usually pretty effective. The main concern with alcohol in the gas, is that it absorbs water. During the riding season your burning off enough fuel that there is no significant water build up in the tank. But when sitting during the winter, warm and cold cycles cause condensation in the the tank and the emptier your tank is the more air space you have hence more condensation and so you should always store with a full tank and some sort of stabilizer in the fuel. After adding stabilizer to the fuel I run the bike for a bit to get the treated gas into the carb then top up the tank. On the other hand some will close the fuel valve and drain or run their carbs dry. In my case the petcock is seized and the drain plugs are PITA to get to. I have this particular bike since 2006 and so far the worst after storage issue I have had is waking the old girl up. For the first few miles she will be a bit sluggish until she has had a few good highway miles under her skirt.
  7. The motion pro is deceiving in that when you think you are closing the screws your actually opening them and visa versa. So you turn in to open and out to close so to speak.
  8. You left out the part about it being a one handed job.......the other hand being busy pulling your hair out as you are removing the carb. Because of the ethanol I will run almost empty at the end of the season and then run and keep my tank full of super before storing away bike. You have to go on line and check but many fuel stations have no ethanol in their high octane gas. Link below. https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE IS A PINK SECTION WITH INITALS : Click on the initials that represent your state or province. It may not be 100% accurate but its close to being right for the most part
  9. Clear cigar tubes work well also and easily mounted side by side on a small board. Just need to find a friend who smokes quality cigars.
  10. SHOT GUN METHOD Its from the Vmax site but it applies to the Venture as well. https://vmax.lvlhead.com/tips/shotgun.htm
  11. I can definitely see the benefits to this because you can leave the house with properly inflated tires but pick up a nail or screw for example along the way. As the tire looses air the sidewalls flex more. The more they flex the higher the side wall temps go. This side wall temp increase over time weakens the side wall and could eventually cause a serious blow out. Being able to monitor your tire pressure would definitely help safe guard you against something like this.
  12. Just curious when you saw him .......did he maybe misunderstand you when you told him to SCATT
  13. Except he does say it runs with the choke on so I would assume he has spark therefore I would be inclined to agree on plugged jets or sticking sliders.
  14. I ordered a a few sets of diaphragms from JBM Industries on a number of occasions and have been very pleased with them. They are easy to deal with have a fast turn around time and will respond to any questions in a timely fashion. They are also a US company. The part number for the diaphragm is BS34 http://jbmindustries.com/index.html BTW the set I put in my own bike have been there for 5 or 6 years and still working perfectly. they are slightly different than the OEM and you need to remove the white plastic rings from the sliders. Then carefully pry them over the lip like mounting a tire just do not overstretch them http://jbmindustries.com/Yamaha650.html In case you miss it there is a special note near the bottom of the page of the second link referring to the Venture instalation Yamaha Venture Notes: The 73 mm Mikuni Diaphragm fits the Venture models even with plastic slides. Remove the short metal tube from the plastic slide if loose, and remove the rings. Place the JBM Industries diaphragm on the metal tube, and then push tube into the plastic slide. Use Super Glue on metal tube. If metal insert tube is not loose, just cut the rings off plastic slide with side cutters as shown. Here is a Video instruction as well.
  15. That's right that old geezer @Marcarl is celebrating another birthday. He may not want any more birthdays but I am Bet'n he is always glad to make it to another one.
  16. How is it these people can protest and face troops of LEO's and militia in riot gear. yet ignore an epidemic of gang violence which is occurring daily on our streets.
  17. I notice it states that it is Dust and waterproofing: IEC 60529 compliant but does not state to what degree of IP standard it measures up to. For example is the unit only water spray resistant or is it water proof in standing water or high pressure water spray. It would really suck if after spending all that money that you discover water got into the electronic portion and ruined it. Also what kind of permissions does the APP require. I find some APPS like the one for my BBQ temp monitor wants access to everything on my phone. Just to measure my meat Temp? Needless to say I do not use the APP, its not that hard to get up and walk over to my BBQ.
  18. Glad your feeling much better @BIG TOM. If you would have been stuck in Bed any Longer I would have had to send @Marcarl over to keep you entertained. It would have been a win win situation Carl would get your mind off your pain and he would have a captive audience (and you know he just loves a captive audience) Hope for your sake this was just a one time freak thing. Take care Buddy :canada::canada:
  19. There is a VR facebook Page? How do you get to it and do you need facebook as I am not on facebook.
  20. Not to favor any one device over the other since I have a homemade one with a gauge and a Morgan Carb tune as well as an old fashion manometer. But from what I understand of the Motion pro backing the adjusting screws out closes the tubes. and screwing them in opens the tubes, which is backwards to ones normal thought process. So if the screws are turned too far in you would suck out the fluid or may introduce air bubbles. You would actually need to back them out all the way and then just turn them in as little as possible to calibrate the tubes. Also if you approach most any tool dealer that sells water manometer's they can usually supply dye to mix with water which you could then use in your motion pro.
  21. With all that has been going on in your country, it's bad enough if this was loss of control due to intoxication But I sure hope this wasn't a deliberate action by the individual because he was intoxicated enough to gain the courage to execute such a heinous act.
  22. In which case there is still plenty of time, because to write a speech thats long winded enough for Marcarl, to deliver is not easy last time I wrote a speech for him he complained that he ran out of speech long befoe he ran out of speechafieing momentum .
  23. The pants I have been wearing the last few days would have made my mother happy. they dont offer any protection but you can scrape your knees without damaging. the pants. when ever we came home with torn jeans and scrapped knees she would always say the knees will heal the pants she has to fix.
