Wait a minute My experience with International truck wiring is they blow fuses anyway and let smoke out all over the place. We used to call them rolling bonfires waiting to happen

Passing lamp wiring
saddlebum replied to Galapagos's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
In Ontario it is law that road lights can only be operated with the High beams so I wire them so that they come on with the high beams and go off when you switch to low beams. -
When you say the wires test good are you testing them with just a digital volt meter or testing the individual wires for continuity with an Ohmmeter. Neither one is totally reliable. Try testing with a volt meter then while the volt meter is still connected add a test light to it and see how much the voltage drops. if it is only 1 to 1/2 a volt the wires are ok but if it drops to a few volts or more than there is a weak connection or a bad possibly corroded wire in the circuit.

New clutch upgrade install at Freebird's MD
saddlebum replied to dogman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
And that's what we are all here for. To help each other. If it makes you feel even better I have been a Mechanic for 40 years, am very technically inclined and have been since being a small kid. Yet I never fail to leave MD having learned a few new tricks and acquiring some new and very useful knowledge. -
Reminds me of the 1st meet and great I went to. Now known as Marcarl's Venture-in. Well Rocket was doing a stint at Camp Borden in Barrie and came down to my place. Being the nice guy I am I allowed him to ride on the back rather then take his rental car. ( He was warned however that should we come across a good looking female hitchhiker ......he was on his own). Anyway on the way home we approached a small group of Harley riders. As we pulled alongside and they noticed a Jap bike about to go past much less one with two guys forming a combined weight of about 500 LBS. of overweight human flesh, they turned it on. Too bad for them .....they only succeeded in embarrassing themselves more as the old girl effortlessly left those hogs behind to wallow in their own loud noise. On another occasion as I was loaded with camping gear, for my 1st MD at Don's I was just easing along the right lane of the QEW to meet the rest of the group at Casablanca. Suddenly a young couple with a nice new Harley Sportster, pulled up beside me. He yells at me saying why don't I get a real bike and the two of them proceed to sit there and laugh at me. I yelled back I'll rush out and get one right now, then dropped a gear rolled the throttle wide open and vanished as though I was figment of their imagination . Don't get me wrong I got nothing against Harley's or their owners. Just the ones who suddenly think they are in a higher class because they own one. As far as I am concerned motorcycles are just motorcycles and we are all just motorcycle riders.

Need a new clutch slave.
saddlebum replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had a similar issue. But when I removed the slave I found it was dry. Turns out the line had a very slow leak at the crimp were it connects to the slave. Had a local hose shop make me up a new stainless line for $34.00. Also decided that since I had it out anyway and was the original, I might as well replace it anyway. I ordered a new one from skydoc, and his price was very reasonable. -
The guns I have should melt it. However at this time I have no real need for it, as all my repairs are completed and I still have a good supply of plastex left over. On the other hand if I had an immediate use for it, I would gladly split an order with you but at this point even half the cost is a little more then I need to spend right now, when I do not have an immediate need for it (and hopefully won't for a long time to come). In any case thanks for thought.

LED bulb and information display
saddlebum replied to stanG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On the trucks some modules allowed you to adjust the currant draw in the modules software but on those that did not we installed a small adaptor harness between the led light and the connector to the light. this harness had a resister in it that tricked the module into thinking that the led light was a regular light. I can see if I can get the part number may be even pull one apart so it can be copied and post the info. -
Congratulations you two. see you at MD

You don't need to be old to recognize good music. Specially since most of today's popular music is not.

Ok I stand somewhat corrected, repair or modify CB radios, No ...but as far as external hardware is concerned many of them (not all) have a very good selection of antennas, mounts and a various assortment of cable repair items such as replacement cable ends, connectors and adapters as well as various antenna mounting bases and replacement mikes etc.. Quite often the quality of the items they carry is much better than those carried by places like radio shack who often only give lip service to CB items. I have been messing with CB,s since the very early 70's and short of CB and Ham radio specialty shops (which these days are becoming hard to find) I have found truck stops to be the best and most convenient source unless you go online.

Just drop I on any of the major truck stops most of them carry a good assortment of most items needed to repair, install or modify CB radios and antennas.

Cruise control miracle!
saddlebum replied to MiCarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try pushing the clutch handle away from the handle bars. It may be that the pivot bushing is worn and the added sloppiness does not allow the lever to move the switch that comes in contact with the clutch lever when it is releasd. -
Try another head set that you know is working. Then you can a least narrow it down to the head set or the bike. Also check and make sure you have proper SWR match on the CB antenna. Or even if the antenna is a CB antenna. I have seen cases were the antenna was replaced, but by one from another bike that did not have a CB installed on the bike. The two antennas look and fit the same except that the CB model has a loading coil approx. 1/2 way up the antenna while the none CB one has no loading coil and is just a simple antenna.

Actually Orange peel is caused by the paint not being thinned out enough, or not using the proper thinner for the temperature conditions under which the paint is being applied, allowing the paint to dry to fast and not flow out. If conditions are extremely warm then sometimes a retarder needs to be added to the paint. Too much moisture in the air lines or spraying when humidity is high causes a condition called fish eye. Here again an additive called fish eye eliminator can be added to the paint if needed. If it is an enamel or similar single coat paint it can be surface sanded until smooth and then repainted. But if it is any of the base coat clear coat types then it needs to be completely redone. Bottom line get the guy to do the job right or let him foot the bill to have another shop correct his work.
