Well I finally got home today as well. Quite the trip to say the least. On the way home as you know we had issues with Traders bike. First we replaced the tire on Trader's trailer, because of what appeared to be a shifted or broken belt. Then when we went to leave, Traders bike would not start. We checked it out with the limited resources we had at hand and concluded the battery was not taking a charge and a voltage drop test during cranking seemed to verify that. Since the place we were at to buy the tire, also had battery's, the decision was made to replace it. Talk about disappointment when it would not crank. Well it was a dry charged battery, to which we had to add acid to and should have sat for a bit before using it. We decided to push started it in hopes that it would build up while driving, no such luck. Carl and I would push start Traders bike at fuel and rest stops which gave us a bit of a workout. Actually Trader being the aware person he is, must have noticed that I put on a pound or two at the rally and being the concerned friend he is, allowed me to push by myself. To add to the workout he even left the key off while I pushed so I would gain maximum benefit from the workout he so kindly offered me. That night at the motel we took the battery out of Carls bike and tried it with a voltmeter connected to measure voltage drop while cranking and determined the starter was not faulty. We decided that we need to get Traders Battery properly charged. That night I suggested to Steve I would buy a battery tender in the morning and at the next Motel stop we would remove his battery and charge it all night hoping this may work. To be clear, I needed to buy a battery tender for a backup sump system I was building anyway for the house, I just bought it now rather than later. Of course it was another day of push starting Traders bike. The following morning after removing the battery from the bike and leaving it on the battery tender all night the bike seemed to have gotten over its starting issues. All was well until Trader started questioning what he perceived as excessive movement with Carl's trailer as we are going down the highway, followed some time later by Carl hearing and feeling something odd in his bike. The next day we headed down the highway when Carl pulled over certain something was wrong with his back wheel. We put it up on the center stand and sure enough a wheel bearing was gone. We made our way back to a service centre and after some inquires Carl concluded he would have to trailer the bike home. While trying to work out a solution to the situation, A fellow in a jeep pulls up to offer some help. Carl explains the situation to him and the fellow reply’s he has a shop we can use and an old venture we can rob parts off of, so we head to his place. Once there he first checks to see if he may even have a new bearing on hand, which he did. With a little bit of assistance from myself and the kind stranger. (I say little because Carl does not usually require a lot of help) Carl was soon mobile again but too late to catch the ferry. So another night in town preceded but a visit to the bush plane museum was in order. After spending another night in town the rest of our journey was trouble free. Last but not least thanks to Carl and Marca allowing me to join them on their alternate route home. I enjoyed some spectacular scenery and riding. Combine this with a wonderful time and beautiful scenic rides made possible by the committee members I had a great vacation week I will never forget. EXCEPT FOR THOSE TRAINS THAT CONSTANTLY RAN THOUGH THE COMPGROUND ……OOOooooOOOOOHHHHH THOSE TRAINS !!!!!!!! :bang head: :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:

Dim and rapid turn and brake signals
saddlebum replied to Triker Dan's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
When using a turn signall do other lights also tend to flicker. If so check all your grounds for bad connection -
Also Faucher (I think that's how you spell it) I also thought I saw some at princess Auto. At one time I had some in my tool box junk drawer at work. If you haven't found any by the time I get back from my trip the end of next week drop me a PM and I will check to see if I still have any. You could also check Lee Valley and Some other hardware stores. early kitchen cupboard doors used to use a ball and matting spring clip to hold the door closed

I know the fifth wheels at Milton and Grimsby carry a big selection. I am not sure how much the one at Dorchester carry's but it should and I believe it is a bit closer to Turkey point
-
Drop in on any of the major truck stops like the fifth wheel or Husky. Most have a big selection of CB antennas and hardware.

Actually all the bashing is just in good fun just like 1st gens versus 2nd gens. Ok maybe a little retaliation due to the fact that so many Harley owners look down their nose at those who own anything but a Harley. I can't even count the number of times I have been told how nice my bike looks followed with {{ but I own a Harley}}. I have to admit though that this attitude has been changing and I have met many Harley owners in recent years that do not have the Harley attitude of years gone by.

Does this mean that next years MD would mean no ventures would get worked on because .... All the Kings Men Would be Busy Putting The Harley Back Together Again

Help with my 84

I think you may be right about the coil. It is not uncommon for a coil that is on its way out to start breaking down at high RPM -
Carb Sync tool
saddlebum replied to NEO55's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There is no master carb you sink the front and rear carbs on the left side to each other, using the screw on the left side. Next you sink the right front and rear carbs to each other using the rear screw on the right side, and finally you sink the left pair to the right pair using the front screw on the right side. -

This is the route that Trader and I will most likely be taking, stopping over night at the campground in Benton Harbour. My plan is to stay clear of major areas. This is not the final plan as there may be some refinements https://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=2309+Fassel+Ave,+Burlington,+ON&daddr=Benton+Harbor,+MI,+USA+to:I-39+S+to:Galena,+IL,+United+States&geocode=FcJilQId-EM--ynJz6As3WEriDH8YcBmDHhHEA%3BFWKmggIdU9DY-inXXt2rbsYQiDGQCNha1-xyAQ%3BFYk7dwIdrg-x-g%3BFSI6hwIdpymc-imx3cevo8_ihzFQ1tvZFKkTpA&aq=0&oq=peru&sll=42.359385,-85.116515&sspn=7.208214,14.545898&vpsrc=0&hl=en&mra=ls&ie=UTF8&t=m&z=6&layer=c&ei=YwzoUfH_N4bOwQH28oD4AQ&pw=2 After opening link. I believe the Canadian law is - If there is a visible minority person who can do the job then no Canadian can work.

In Ontario I do not know what the regs are in these situations. I searched the highway traffic act and found nothng. Spoke to members of local bike clubs, no clear answer was offered. I cross 2 sets of lights every day on my way home which do not respond. When I drive my truck the opposite light goes yellow as soon as I am within 10 feet of the intersection within 20 seconds my light is green. So using this criteria I stop wait 25 seconds and if the way is clear I go. I was stopped once and the officer asked me if I was aware that I went through a red light. I told him I was and that I do so most every night and explained why. After awhile we just chatted for a bit about how he always thought about getting a motorcycle and then parted company.

Not a clue but I am sure it can be figured out. Worst case scenerio I will have to leave it with someone until I do. Enough Canadians have made crossborder purchases that I am sure someone has the answer.

Has anyone here refloored a trailer? Need help!
saddlebum replied to cabreco's topic in Watering Hole
Ok here is one I don't see mentioned. I have re-decked a lot of transport trailers over the years and here is a suggestion. Go to a transport trailer shop or supplier and ask for decking for a flatbed. shop around because it comes in varies types of wood. it is usually 2x6 or 2x7 shiplap lumber. generally 1 1/2" thick. being shiplap you get almost a 3/4 inch overlap at the edges which will prevent road crap from coming up through the boards. Cut the boards to fit then before installing them treat all surfaces with wood preservative including the end cuts. If the metal on your trailer is at least 1/4" think you don't need carriage bolts just use the self tapping flooring screws used on transport trailers. It will last a lifetime and be strong. And if you are concerned about weight distribution, consider that lift trucks / tow motors run up and down on these flat decks all the time. Just make sure it is the solid boards and not the laminated butcher block style. The butcher block style although it would look nicer, is only good for inside dry van trailers. -
