  2. Your questioning seems to be based on the assumption that the holes in the barrels cause a lose of vacuum to the diaphragm's. But if you look at the position of the holes in relationship to the venturi were it narrows and then widens again, I would suggest that they actually sit in the low pressure zone of the venturi and therefore actually contribute to the vacuum acting on the diaphragms, Where as the pinholes are in affect actual vacuum leaks. If you want a good example of this effect just look at the back of any tractor trailer going down the road on a snowy day. as the rig passes through the air going down the highway it creates a low pressure area at the back of the trailer commonly known as a vacuum and all the snow gets sucked up and clings to the back doors of the trailer.
  3. When I bought my bike it came with the trailer. the tongue of the trailer had the swivel built in to the tongue just past the hitch. So far I like it very much and when I bank around turns I barely notice the trailer behind me. Now I have to admit this is the only trailer I ever pulled behind a bike so I cannot compare to one without the swivel but It does allow the bike to lean more ----Like when you step off and forget to put the kickstand down.

  7. This is why you use an adjustable one. You start with a small gap and gradually you widen the gap until the engine starts to miss fire. Min gap is generally about 1/4 with plug in line but I have opened the gap up as high as 5/8 of an inch before starting to get a miss fire. Have done this for many years, on all types of ignition systems, without an issue. Bear in mind your only doing this until the cylinder starts to miss fire and only for a couple seconds max. Leaving it in that state too long does run the risk of coil damage or other ignition damage. I Do Apologize though, I should have been a little more clear about the procedure in my initial post. Sometimes you forget that although most on this site Like Bobby are mechanically inclined, there are a few who are not, but do read these posts to learn something and there fore better clarification is always a good thing, for those trying to understand what it is we put in these posts. And Finally Glad to hear you are up and running Bobby.
  8. Hey Bob before you pull everything apart put an inline spark tester between the plug and boot. Make sure it is the adjustable type were you can widen the gap. You should be able to open the gap to almost 5/8 of an inch and see a spark jump. Easy way to test your ignition system. Also If you use a setup like I posted earlier for wet checking the float levels you will be able to see if the float and needle/seat is functioning properly. With this bench set up you will able to see if a carb is flooding. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86821 You can leave the carbs assembled initially and fore go the clear tube for now. Just supply the pressurized gas to each carb one at a time to see if it overflows and starts coming out of the vent tube.

  10. Get well soon Rick. The symptoms described also sound a lot like a vertigo attack (inner ear infection or disorder). I had that happen to me several years ago. It comes on sudddenly and can linger for a few days. You have no sense of balance, you feel like your sea sick and no matter how still you sit the room seems to move around in circles. Lets hope and pray it was nothing more serious than that. Whatever it is Prayers sent that you have a quick and complete recovery.
  11. Cracks in any coil can cause the spark meant to jump at the plugs to detour along an easier path. A good way to test if your having high voltage leakage is run the bike in the dark and with a spray bottle mist over the entire ignition system. If you start to see what us mechanics like to refer to as Christmas lights you have found your problem.

  16. I am no Doctor but I had similar symptoms about 6 or 8 months ago. specially the difficult breathing when laying down as well as my heart rate would sky rocket and I would have to get up. I thought I was having a some sort of heart issue. After a battery of tests the doctors came to the conclusion that I was in good health but having an anxiety attack due to work related stress and treated me for that. It would appear that they were right as I am doing fine now. One other thing my doctor told me was to make sure I took at least 2000 mg of vitamin D a day. He said there is quite the increase in anxiety attacks because due to UV we tend to avoid the sun and as a result do not get enough vitamin D. I have been doing as he instructed and have been fine ever since and without any additional medication. Just to be clear my Dr is not a naturalist but a regular Dr. and I know first from watching a friend go through it and then going through it myself that anxiety can make the body do a sorts of scary stuff. So like I said I am no Dr but it can't hurt to have your Dad checked for anxiety disorder. Finally what ever it is that ails your Dad Lets pray that it gets sorted out soon.

  19. I used the same setup as in post #2 except that I used a 4 foot wilson with tunable tip. It is thinner, taller and lighter than the firestick and has an added wire at the base you can ground to help eliminate ignition static interference noise. Also on the package it states that you can ground it to assit in better swr if you cannot get it low enough. I did not have to ground it on mine and I got 1.3:1 match.   20. Has anyone tried filling in the holes and , cutting off the studs and replacing the whole affair with metal snaps like on a tunneau cover or to snap a visor on a helmet. I was thinking about trying this and wondered if anyone already has. Maybe instead of filling the hole insert a rubber plug were the grommet goes then mount one half of the snap to the rubber plug to allow for some flexibility and movement. Just an Idea I was thinking about

Really - - -I was in the middle of reading threads when all of a sudden while about to post another thread I got a notice saying I did not have authorization paid my $12.00 and 2 minutes later I was somebody again (or at least as close to a somebody as you possibly could get on this site). Best of both worlds A 1st gen to get to places while they still exist. a 2nd gen to actually be able to watch the leaves go from bud to green leaves and then to colored leaves all in a single trip.   25. That is because most of us can't read -:rotfl:also sliders in carbs may stick if it has sat around. Removing the air filter and Soaking them a bit with sea foam or sea foam spray should free them up nicely. Sometimes after they have soaked you may need to gently reach down with a screwdriver and carefully push them back to aid in freeing them up.
