Hey James, does the club in OKC still do the candy ass run first part of year? I think sometime in Jan. East side of the state has some nice riding if I remember right, I lived in the west past Lawton. Dirt and tumble weeds.
-
I would say they should. If it has the wires on the back instead of a screw connection on the bulb you could fix that pretty easy. I have been thinking about LED passing lights and @ $15ea I'm thinking it might be worth a shot.

Wainting to hear from Bob Myers. He was going to make some up. But it was a side project and real work got busy. If he aint in debt on materials I may do that.

I had the "oh s#!t what happened to the brakes" experience on my 09 thispast Oct. In the mountians on twisties following a dweeb in an SUV that obviously didnt know how to drive twisties. Thats how I got the problem to start. Had to ride the rear brake more than I really wanted to scrub speed off, then he started almost stopping going into corners. Anyways the rear brakes faded out I mean so bad I thought I had a leak. Once I stopped and verified no leak everything had cooled enough, brakes back and good to go. Milage was about 11K at the time. I think every year may be overkill, but I certainly would vote for a 2yr program of flushing. Make sure you get DOT 4 fluid. If its dark like Jack Daniels it needs changed.

You have read the write up on the process I hope. Covering the tank with a blanket or towel is a must. If I could have figured out how to get the tank off I would have done that. Also I found that to get the forks more even and not fight them as much removing the front tire worked well. I did mine 7/8". I forgot to put the chrome covers back on the first time also.

How to remove chrome covers
djh3 replied to octoberboy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just looked up today for another thread. Autozone has the allen socket set in 3/8 drive for $15. 3mm (fits fairing screws) 4mm, 5mm 6mm 8mm 10mm. That should just about cover anything on the bike. Ocasionaly you find the standard L type works better. -
I went out to garage and figured I'd check it out. Shoot forgot all that stuff is covered up. I want to say 6mm. The upper bolt torque is 7.2ft lb and the lower bolts are 14 ft lb. Have you downloaded a copy of the shop manual from here? I recomend buying a set of the allen head sockets from sears or Lowes or Home Depot or even the auto parts stores have "gaurenteed" tools now that are decent. Something like this. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/grn/2061/image/2/$15 at autozone. Or sears same kind of set for $30.

Did a quick check when I found the "my leather" site. It looked very familiar in presentation. It is the exact same layout as leather up . I would take a guess this is there wholsale arm. The jacket I looked at was a US Air Force leather jacket. Its $27 cheaper on the my leather site which is a good savings if your buying $400 worth of stuff. So if you had a club and got a bunch of folks together to make a bulk buy you'd be in good shape.

Hope I got a good deal. It sure apears I did. I just picked up a set of K&N filters for the RSV on amazon for less than $36 shipped. It said "like new" and something about verified. So hope so. Shoot the OEM ones are more than that so I figured I should be good.

Dale dont know if these folks ship your way or not but they have some good prices on some of the things you mentioned. Jafrum-rain suits leather goody's jackets etc. Leather up- gloves jackets luggage all kinds of stuff Rockin leather-leather goods and more Ah heck I got more but that will get you started. All them places have chaps also. Personaly I wouldnt give more than about $40 or so for a pair. I think I got mine on sale from jafrum for about $25 shipped. Happy hunting.

May see if the wife want to make a trip up this week sometime. Nice weather in forcast I think.
-
For what its suposed to be I dont think its bad looking. But where is it price wise for what its compairing to? I mean an 883 sporty is what under $6k. Heavens only knows why they wont make a touring bike with like a FJR or sport bike motor detuned for civalized folk. Its pretty obvious they are making thier money on the sporty bikes I think so thats where the R&D money goes.

I saw something about using a ballon and covering it. I just have the low buck J&M's myself. If you have the rubber nirtile type gloves maybe you can cut a finger out and try it. Should serve the same purpose.
-
The stability issue is something worth looking into I would think. And do they have enough work to stay busy. Also where does that put you in the food chain? Are you going to be in a "jounior" position or does your previous union affiliation do you any good? I would hate to see a guy with 15+ yr experience go to work for a guy with say 4yr and him give you all the toter jobs.
-
Light bar looking good. Are you installing the passig lights yourself? If so be sure to read up on how to do it with a relay installed in the system. It will save you some grief possibly downthe road. And I suggest if you can for the fuse for the in-line use a fuse holder so you can use the same fuse's as the rest of the bike. They sell them at most auto parts stores llike Autozone or advance etc. I forget if they are ATC or AGC, one is mini version of the other. But the holder looks like this for both. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/bsm/BP-HHG-RP/image/4/

Dont know for sure, but if the GW shock is longer you might be able to fabricate a set of arms that would work. But it may lowre the bike to much also.

K9-which passing lamps are those? Are they the high dollar Kuryakin or simular or the $35 northern tool jobs?
-
Other bikes use the same shims, not just Yamaha. Honda cbr 650 yamaha fj 1100-1200 xjr 1300 they are 25mm shims. So sometimes you can find them on e-bay listed for a different bike for less.
-
The way it was explained to me on the FJ motor and I have to assume its basicly the same on all the shim adjusted motors. As the engine runs the cam trys to push the valve out of the head, the spring trys to pull it back thru the head. Thus the clearences get less. So if you have say a 300 shim in it as the valve get pulled up your clearence gets smaller and you need to go to say a .275 shim or whatever the chart says.
-
I thought the "vent" line that went in to the leg fairing was the carb vent lines.
-
New FJ tools go for around $55 on e-bay. By the way here is a link to some valve shims. Unless you use them to pund on you cant hardly hurt them so used is an option in my book. Some have a selection some individual. Maybe someone will chime in but I dont think you need very many above 280.

Not getting fuel for 2009 RSTD
djh3 replied to donbova's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I think it sounds like the majority is going with vent line. I have not looked as I have not had the tank off the RSV but my Kawi had the vent line attached up by the gas cap area. Could a fellow take low press say 10-12lb compressed air and pull the line at the tank and blow it out? I was reading a thread somewhere along the line days back about an intermitant fuel pump. It would run for minutes sometimes and hour and then just stop. Cooled off for a few and away it went again. Due to the type of pump I think its a piston sort of thing drawn back and forth to create press. So if it gets out of tolerance and moves to much side to side it could get hung up. -
Sorry to hear that Larry. On the certificate thing. My dad has probably been gone 20yr or more. Its bad but I forget now. I was still in the service and had to take leave to come back to Fl and take care of some stuff, so it was before 96. Anyways same thing for when my mom passed. They give you like 2-3 "embossed official" or whatever they call them death certificates. It seemed almost every place I went to cancel an accout, close out tings they wanted the embossed copy. Well they run you at that time about $10 ea and you had to go to court house. After me spending an additional $30-40 bucks I finaly said this is what you get, you can make a copy so you can see the embossed raised part but I ain leaving it with you unless you fess up the $10.
