  1. The speakers being small was something I kind of thought to myself. But I have heard some killer smaller speakers in the last few years. Tech is some great stuff. But I dislike the moroons that come in the gas station with radio blasting, put $4 worth of gas in and then go into the store with their radio still playing for your entertainment. Boom Boom blah blah rattle rattle boom. $2000 car with 6K in stereo.
  2. I have rode both fixed and the handlebar mounted fairings. Been a long time since I have been on the fixed (frame mounted) one though. I like the fixed fairings. The only difference I really notice on the bat wing or handlebar mount types is ocasionaly in gusty winds they can sometimes move you around a little.
  3. I guess I'm looking for an AMP more for AUX input and over the headsets. Not looking to blow out the speakers and try to convert surrounding passers by to my type of music. Just better "defination and clarity" of music I supose. I seems when I plug my Driod phone into the aux and use it for Pandora the volume is so low you have to really push the phone volume up and the bass sort of gets lost.
  4. I too am a recent buyer of a RSV. I bought mine in Jan of 2012. I put better than 10K on it last year(had 7400 on it). When I bought the bike it had the DUnlap E-3's on it. They rode fine and performed very well I thouhgt. They did get a bit noisey say the last 1/4 to half of tread life before changing. Especially in corners. It just has to do with the way the tire wears and the edgs of the groves "feather". I dont think there is any performance issue to worry about. At the time I was researching tires there was evidently a batch of Avons that had manufacturing problems. they were cracking at the bead area, and these were brand new tires so I ruled them out. I read up on the Michelin Commander II. I like the tread pattern and reviews. Only down side was there is no "direct" replacement for the RSV. You have to go to a slightly narrower tire in a 130. Its like less than a 1/4" inch width difference. I opted for that set of tires and am very happy with them. Shinko tires has also had pretty good reviews on other bikes as I could not find any on "heavy" touring bikes, mostly FJR, Mean streaks and other cruiser bikes, Oil I was using Mobil 1 in my Kawasaki, but my oil change intervals were also like 7500 miles. The RSV is about half that so at better than $10 a qt it makes it pretty expensive. Looked around here and most are running either Shell Rotella t6 (syn) or the regular Rotella both are JASMO spec oil which is what you need to have no matter what to keep from killing the clutches. I also run a Purolator 14610 filter. Its a little longer than the OEM size but fits and gives you a extra inch in length of filter area. My personal opnion would be to stay away from Fram. Enjoy the new scoot and read all the info you want here, for me its been well worth the $12 of admision.
  5. No experience with the D-404 on the RSV. But my 900 Vulcan had them from the factory. IMOP junk! I think I got maybe 5k out of them. And the wet performace after about 2k was scary at best. On that bike I changed to Perrlii Route 66 I think is what they were called. Good tire. On the RSV it had the E-3 on it. Good tire I would say. But I did a lot of reading and decided to go with the Michlen Commander II for replacments. I did go with the 130 front to try it out. For me if it goes 12k thats only a little over a year more than likely so if I dont like it, I live with it for a year. I have had glasses I couldt stand to wear longer than that. I do like the Commander II in the wet compaired to the E-3 as I think the tread pattern is a little better suited for it as the grooves go past the center of the tire and give the water some place to go. The Dunlaps have about an inch to 2" in the center of the tire there is no groove thus no outlet for water to get out.
  6. Hey you can atleast get a cassette in "dolby" LOL Yea I know yea what the heck were they thinking?? I mean heck even in 99 most cars were going to CD players. I have tought a couple of times about just pulling the tape deck out and either making it a storage slot or putting in an AMP/MP3 player. But so far just cant make myself do it. Part of it is its still got warrenty I guess. Shoot I dont even use th CD player on the bike, I have had it out of the bag since the wife and I took a trip in Oct and we needed the space. Aux input and Pandora.
  7. So will it do it in all gears? Or is it only in 4th and 5th @ about what speed? If its say 45 or so in 4th what if you run it up to say about 50 in third and shift to 4th.
  8. 8 track was on the first gen's right?
  9. MiCarl, your post about "seems sensless to pad lock when they can cut it open" made me think back to when I had my convertable. I use to drive it to the airport for work. I would lock it up while I was gone. The old top was shot so I replaced it. I was talking to the guy that installed it for me and he said just get everything out of site and lock in trunk. Dont lock doors because they will just slash the top to get in. Made sense so I never locked it after that. Seemed pretty pointless.
  10. Glad your OK. 5 or 6 years ago when the media started talking about how the banditos are getting prettty brasin down there the wife and I pretty much decided Mexico was off our tour schedule. To bad too, as we had a nice vaction at one of them all inclusive deals several years back. But no way I would spend my time or money down there the way things are right now. Heck we can get a cruise from Miami for 4 days to Cancun or Cozmel for like $350, but wont even think about it.
  11. Rubber stuff probably worth a good look see, just as precaution. Not that I think anything is bad. I have seen AZ or Fla cars say 2yr old that sit in the sun look like a blow torch has been held to them. Kills the clear coat as well as the black plastic stuff. My BIL has a Avalance (one of them sort of 4 door pick up sort things) that the topper and fender wells are the black plastic. His looked pretty good 3yr after he boutgh it, a neighbor of his had one a year newer and the balck plastic stuff was gray. Hows the seats, floorboards, grips that sort of stuff.
  12. I experminted with LED replacment type bulbs like these in the turn signal/running lights on the RSV. Aside from making the turn signals flash fast, this was my findings. For whatever reason th rear brightness looked better. The front when on in the running light position in daylight you couldnt harly see them, on signal they were about the same as incandecents. I had one in the tail/brake light position also. It was suposed to be one of those flashing stop type. It flashed pretty quickly and you couldnt hardly notice it. The difference between tail and brake wasnt significant enough so I swapped it back to OEM bulb. If yours work thats great. Sometimes with these china stuff its the luck of the draw. I went thru 2 sets of the rear bulbs before I got ambers. But for the price you cant hardly bitc#.
  13. Thought about doing this a few years back. I have some albums I really liked and its really hard to justify buying the music again on CD being I already paid for it once. Plus a couple of them I dont think I have ever seen available on CD.
  14. From what I have read and also been told, nope. Slide old ones off, put new mufflers on and enjoy. No jetting required.
  15. I dont really want to add anything in trunk if I can stay away from it. I like the room in it, otherwise why have it. Just my thinkin out loud.
  16. I think if I was going to remove the cassette deck and wanted to add an AMP I would loo at going in this direction. This small amp or one like it could be installed in the opening and would give you the amp and an MP3 player. I had one simular to this on my Kawasaki and it worked good. They make them in lots of sizes so finding one to fit the bill shouldnt be to hard.
  17. Awsome. You say you just wired in a realy and used the time delay unit? Did you get it from the place that was in the link I may change mine if it isnt a big cost..
  18. Oh my from a sporty to a RSV. She will be calling it a bark-o-lounger for sure. Check out just the difference in the wheelbase, that will tell you alot about the ride. Good luck and enjoy your new ride. I dont think youll even be able to compare the two. If you have any questions, search the fourms and if you cant seem to find an answer ask away. There is a wealth of knowledge here on these bikes.
  19. Well I suspect this summer you all up north will be telling us how nice it is. I can inform you the temp really dropped here last night too. All the way to the mid 40's. Burr The weather folks were talking for 3 or 4 days about a cold front. I'm still waiting. I dont see 70's in the daytime as cold myself. The way this weather has been this winter, if you all can hang on a couple days it'll be back in the mid 50's or 60's.
  20. Seat of the pants tells me the RK flow a little more. But cant prove it. I think the reason for the sound difference may be the way the inside is constructed and method of baffles. I think the Yamaha uses chambers and change of direction zig zag if you will and the HD uses an end plate and a tube with holes.
  21. Dave, you talking about the LED lights from northern tool? I have been thinking about a pair of those. Right now have halogen 35w bulbs in alure type settings.
  22. The new stuff may be better. But my experience with the solar stuff aint been great either. Mostly the same driveway lights, patio and I had one of them rocks that has the address in it that lit up. None of which seem to put out much light. Whats your breaker to the garage now? Adding 2 lights on the motion detedtor shouldnt be that much of a draw to have to completly rewire. Run the new flourecent type flood lights, they draw less power and are as bright as say 100w flood.
  23. Looks like to me on the accessories for bikes site it is each position. What I mean is it shows a picture but you have to read it, it shows a headlight visor, 2 for passing and 2 for T/S. But the price is $16 and change, then the discription reads headlight, next reads turn signals. So on a guess its each position. Front-rear, passing, headlight etc.
  24. You laugh. Back when I was traveling TDY in the AF I think we got like $8-9 a day to eat on. Couldnt be done even on base.

    tire sizes

I changed to a 130 from the OEM E_3. I cant say as I really notice much difference at all. I have put over 5K on it. I do have the front end lowered in the triple trees, dont know if that makes a difference on this or not. Mine feels fine solo or 2 up. Definatly like the wet weather grip of the Commanders.
