  1. I keep seeing this thread and get more ideas. Being I am retired military I could hop scotch around to different bases and stay on base or abase camp ground for less than some motels. Hmm Being I am out of work right now it is wayyy to ez to think about going riding instead of looking for a job this summer.
  2. Well I improver my passing lights to some decent LED bulbs and am happy with thier output for the price. So I think the aux lights I want are low now. So back to your idea. Do you have the 4.5" passing lights on the bar? I just went out with a quick idea. The clamps for the lights I have will fit arounf the stalk of,the turn signal. So you could munt the lights to the outside of the turn signal between the passing light and top ot the turn signal. Right now my passing lights are laying on top of the fender as I have the fairing apart, so dont know what all the clearences are. Tomorrow I should be able to put it back together as I have my power wires and stuff all run.I'll get a couple pics of what Im talking about so you can get an idea and visual.
  3. My experience is batteries tend to show up bad in cold weather.I wonder if it was sos cold that the fluid in the battery was frozen. hmmm I dont like workin in cold temps neither sooo
  4. OK not tryin to be a wise acre here, but where does the brake pedal go? Somehow it has to either compress a master or some type valve to send fluid to the caliper. Now in a search I did looking for location I did run across a couple write ups about proportioning valves.
  5. I was actually hesitant to open the thread based on title. lol There is sooo much stuff to learn on new cars you almost have to go to a class.
  6. Aint it great? I can remember having to go to the library on base after work, look up in the chiltons manual what I needed. Then make copies to take home or write down notes. Now you can find all kinds of usefull and ocasionaly usless info via the net.
  7. I buy a lot of my connectors from Joe over at http://www.cycleterminal.com Hey has a good selection of weather tight type connectors also.
  8. Well I dont know about the engineer part, but many years of aircraft maintenance and sheet metal work and building race cars. You do pick up a few tricks here and there. Also when I worked for U-Haul we use to have a crack in the skin, stop drill and put a sealant on the rivet and shot a rivet in the hole. The idea being it will hold the skin together.
  9. We made the trip down Labor Day weekend. We took the cage. From my place in the middle of the state its like 4hr just to where you get on US 1 heading down @ Homestead. Then from there down is like another 5hr or so I think. Not a bad drive, in some places pretty congested in small towns with 2 lane lots of business on the side of road and tons of traffic. Coming back was a whole nother story. We averaged about 30mph getting off the islands. Stop and go and pretty much bumper to bumper. I would like to take the bike down there, but I dont think the wife wants to ride 9-10 hours in exhaust fumes.
  10. Don, hang on to the one you got. If we meet up for a meet and eat bring it with you. Maybe I can fix it and you can either keep for spare or sell it and make your money back..
  11. Eck along with your temp repair, to keep it from cracking any further stop drill the end of the crack. Drilling it will make the stress that caused the crack have to work around the entire hole vs the 2 sides of the crack. Well thats the theroy.
  12. The winter resident here will be lining up Sunday night.
  13. I have both sides of the 5 pins I think. If just the 5 pin plug is broke I can probably solder a new one in. I get them off ebay. How about something like this if the controler is junk. IMC passneger mic mute and volume control. Most show for a GW, but as long as its 5 pin they all work.
  14. Got a few pics. Clamps had to be clearanced to fit between cowl and bar to not rub. Pretty tight fit and will need some fine tuning it looks like. Here is the location.
  15. Depends on how much you want to spend. In the regular battery price range, and AGM. The Deka gets good reviews. I got mine from Bohannon Battery. If you have the coin to go new age Cycle Gear has Lithium batteries. Pretty cool, a little more CCA if I remember right, and the box weighs almost as much as the battery. But they are pricey buggers. Shorai® LFX batteries [h=2]LFX27L3-BS12[/h]
  16. All that work, and no mention of changing the batteries in the smoke detectors. Hmm I have to get the manual out and figure out how to change the clock on the 2nd Gen.
  17. So how long did you have to wait in line to get that pic? When we were down @ Labor Day the line was like 30 min or something to "file thru" to get you moment for a pic. We stayed over on the Navy Base at Truman Anex. Sure seems further south than this point. But who knows for sure. Still its great day for a ride.
  18. YEa me too on the motel. Pretty much my days of sleeping on the ground are done. Been there done that and it was so long ago the T-shirt has been cycled thru the rag to the round can file many many moons ago. But I can get a room for under $60 usually. We like the Asheville, Waynesville, Maggie Valley area, or possibly a trip up thru NY Finger Lakes area and into Canada.
  19. Was busy today moving living room stuff around. We got a new piece of furnature to put th e tv, cable box and suround sound thing on. So I was pretty maxed out getting all that moved around and wired. Maybe I,will get a chance to sort of mock it up for a couple pics and post them.
  20. I had some furniture for sale for about a week and a half thru the newspaper. (Yea some people still read them) Had a few bits and even a looker or 2. But no cash. So after almost 2 weeks in paper wife says she will throw it up on facebook locally. BANG she starts getting all kinds of messages and inquiries. All 3 pieces sold and gone in like 3 days. So maybe if you have the face book thing you can try that. Use your throw away e-mail for a response to place.
  21. Shame on you. I dont blame her.
  22. If you knocked the glaze off they should be OK. Now thw question about the brake fluid. How long have you had the bike? Have you changed the fluids? What color is it?
  23. I guess Im different than most. If a fellow is asking 7800 for something, thats what he needs out of it. Is it worth that to me? I have learned nobody wants to pay you what you want for something or have it listed at. So you have to list everything higher than what you expect to get for it, just so you can lower the price,so they think they are getting over on you.
  24. My high dollar Kuryakyn pegs look like ****** too. I figured it was because they get alot of road debris and sand blasted sort of. But they dont have big nicks, just the chro,me is fading and looks sort of whitish.
  25. I got GREAT mileage out of the Michelin Commander 2 They don't make the OEM size for the front so you either go to the 130 or put something different on the front. I got over 17k on mine and I changed them because I had a fall trip to the mountains and didn't want to chance anything like rain and wife, more gear than usual and poor traction and....... you get the picture. Maybe the estimate is 2.5 hours for the valves, once they get all the stuff out of the way. Usually things that are included in a job are covered under the flat rate. Say you go in for a water pump that leaks. Manual says they have to drain the rad to change the pump. So that time is covered, same goes for changing the belt if its shot. Thats where they try to make up some of the "gravy" is on extra parts. Like twice what a tire should cost say.... Just sayin might be a bit high there.
