Valve Stem Question

The inner core will leak if not tight. Also by chance are you runnig the balance beads? I do and every once in awhile when I check the pressure one them buggers will get caught and make it leak. Hope the shop get it fixed for you. -
Some (many) Maintanance questions
djh3 replied to Motiv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would have to find the thred on DOT tire codes. But seems to me its like 3 maybe 4yrs on tires. And the Avons seem to have problems at the bead area off and on. My thoughts on the steering head is if its not notchy they are more than likley ok. But being you got it where it is in teardown, the bearings are maybe what 10 to 14 bucks? Put some new ones in and lube them with good grease and youll never have an issue there to worry about. -
Captinjoe, when out west and temp drops like10-15 degrees and wind picks up. Look for sky to turn green and big roll of clouds. Then its time to look for a hole to hide in.

Shoot, if you change load or air press in rear shock it can through the headlight off. I found a write up on how to aim the headlight. Because my driveway slopes and no flat spot I have to go across the drive for level shot. I put a line of tape across a piece of plywood I had and aimed it.

Valve Adjusting Question
djh3 replied to wannarsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I roll mine over thru twice or so to check and make sure I get the same reading. carefull with the cast tool, there have been instances of getting one in a bind and breaking it. -
2010 late I think is when they retro fited air ducts and fans to redirect air flow. 2011 on had the reflow from the factory. I understand they have plenty of torque and run pretty smoth. I have also heard some chatter about flimsy feeling lids or something. I think for the rite price if I could test ride one first it would be a player. I know I have seen a few down here in Fla with the pipes wrapped in the header wrap to try to help with the heat thing. Complaints on the radio reception and antenna on them also. But they are bluetooth I think, but wired intercom.

I changed my fork oil to 10w. Seems to help on the ride, and front dive. I would say if they are not leaking why change? Valves you kind of need to know whats in it. Sure you can buy a "kit" but youll end up with a bunch you dont need. Measure what you got and only order what you need. Chances are you will only need a couple. Depending on your skills it may take you longer to disassemble and drain radiator than to actually check the valves. Same goes for rear drive, change the fluid in the diff. If seals arent leaking should be good to go. If brake/clutch fluid is brownish it probably could use a change and flush. Crush washers on oil pan?? You talking about the one for the drain plug? Some change them regularly. I changed mine once since I have got it. It had 7500 miles and now has 35k. Check the date codes on your tires to make sure they are like not more than 3 yr old I think is the recomended. -
I would tend to agree on the filter causing the pump to work harder. So I have a question maybesomeone can answer. We have all heard and some of us have seen what the current 10% ethonol fuel can mess up. So how disasterous is this stuff to the filter? Should we maybe be looking at more frequent changes on them? Sorry dont mean to hijack.

No game systems. But I di participate in a online race league. I ran a race simulator called r factor. That group I was with for 7yr or so. The league I am with now we run an old simulator called nascar 2003. These are both PC games.

Valve Adjusting Question
djh3 replied to wannarsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are marks on the crank thru that tiny window. Page 3-10 of service manual. If you dont have one you can download a copy. -
Well there may have been a change in manufactures of pumps, but the same pn fits all second gen. I installed a Mr Gasket and didnt put any kind of additional valves or anything. The fasuet or whatever the name is of aircraft rated pump has a check valve or something in there. But I know several folks using the Mr Gasket pump and no issues. I dont shut the petcock off either.

2012 & Newer - Ipod not working
djh3 replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks fellows. Maybe can figure a way to work around having to buy thru Yamaha. -
I would look at fuel pump first probably. Mine was kind of like that. Most times I would have problems was when gas ran out and I swapped to reserve. Almost acted like pump would get hot when it ran out and had no fuel trying to pick up from reserve. Bike would sit a few minutes, pump cool and away I would go and may not have problems for weeks or longer. I swapped to the Mr Gasket m 42 I think it is. Ther is a write up in the 2nd gen tech section.

Well all I did was a quick GOOGLE of Indian chief or something. In the writing it had the price. Chances are I didn't see the actual price of one of them, because I quite honestly thought they were way over $25-28k So that is my mistake I'm sure. Sorry if anyone got excited about the price. LOL

Just not appealing to me. I dont like the tan seat, the frilly thingies I usually see hanging off them. The studded seats are not my style, the wheel pants, and the multi color trunk. If the guys paying $19k for them like them, rock on. I guess they just have to grow on you. I like the Vision and it had to grow on me, but I don't own one as they are out of any price range I have right now. I will say this from the fellows I have met that have them. They ride really nice and run smooth. But nobody I see owning one is under 50 either, so maybe Indian is eventual going to loose their market here as that age group dwindles.

Can you tell me what the model number or manufactures number is on your i-pod simple thingy. Trying to see if a fellow could source one without going thru Yammay -
A long time ago like 93 or 94 I bought a 90 f 150 with straight 6 300cid. It had 90k on it. The fellow was a construction engineer and traveld around southwest Oklahoma . You could tell all highway miles mostly and well taken care of. Dip stick clean, trans fluid no smell and red not rust brown looking. I put almost 100k on it befor I sold it and it still ran great except a/c.

Me personally would stay away from high milage 4wd. I dont need it, its more drive train junk to weqr and tear. Transfer case, chains in it, extra differental an axles etc. Plus take more fuel to run all that stuff. At the agew vs milage on the V6 I to would say its highway miles. So why did the guy buy 4wd? Does he plow parking lots on the side? You might ask what maintenance has been performed.

Hmm now it makes sense on how gas got down to $2 bucks a gallon. The cut it down with water.
