Yup the module was the first thing I thought of. Not a GM eficanado but I did race sbc for some years. Once I went to the HEI ignition, I learned to keep a complete spare cap and guts as they would fail at dangdest times.

We took a quick ride down to Lake Placid today to check out the country fair. Low 70s I guess and sunny. Suposed to go on a lunch ride with some folks from church tomorrow mid 70s forcast. Sorry guys but this is one of the reasons I moved down here vs staying in Oklahoma.

Yes same home network. I do have a shared folder on my PC. She can usually access it. But me saving something or finding something on her work PC is just about impossible. Guess I will have to try a couple things to maybe simplify the access troubles.

I am trying to figure out a way to have a HDD at the home office that can be accessed by different computers. I am running a gateway/router from comcast. It has only 4 cat 5 plugs on it. I have 3 computers hardwired to it and also some sort of booster thing I have to have for the cell phone to work decent at the house. So all plugs are full. It is a wireless router also, so I do have wi-fi available. The wife has her work PC which has all sorts of passwords and encryption on it and is a PIA to try to access if I am doing work for her. So what we have been doing is when I complete a file I copy to jump stick and toss it on her desk. Lately her work PC has not been recognizing the jump stick. I dunno why it works OK on my PC. So for me to access her computer and share files is password protected etc. She can access mine sometimes, but the network dont always see mine from her PC. Thought were to use a wireless HDD, but them are not exactly cheap. Over $100 for 500gb. Anybody got any ideas? I have seen some kind of dongle thing with a usb plug on one end that is supposed to like make something wireless. Could you plug this up to a "regular" external HDD and make that work? The dongle thing was $25 range and have seen external HDD for $40 or so. Might could swing that.

Hmm If it tossed the belt kind of sitting still so to speak, chances are the pistons etc are OK. I would say its worth pulling the head and take a look see.

Well earbuds dont always fit well in helmets. For me the Sony ones I got work good. Good sound and don't hurt my ear canal. For the wife she struggled all the time. Would pull them out or they would fall out on rides. SO I got here a pair of these. They fit well, conform to the ears and knock out external noise like wind. As mentioned before I run in addition to the OEM 5 pin cable an audio out 3.5mm so I can plug these in. If I am wearing the shorty solo I just plug the ear buds in. There are different styles also if you like the shooting style ear plugs. If anybody wants a cable like mine I can build you one.

Depending on how it was running at the time the belt let go is going to determine what is messed up. If it was tooling down the road @ 70 mph and the belt broke, you could have holes in the pistons, bent rods all sorts of stuff. Best case scenario you got a couple pings inthe tops of pistons you wire brush and put a reman head on. I did a job for a fellows daughter. A little Saturn sedan. She killed the motor. they arranged for me to pick up a motor, it was up to them to sort out the payment and warranty etc. I installed the motor and got the little car running great. A month or so later the fellow calls me and say its running ruff. I go pull a compression test, it had burned a valve or something. I told him to contact the yard. They would give him a motor in exchange, which if fine but it was not may fault their motor went south. I sure wasnt going to change it again for free this time. I dunno what they did.I felt bad about the deal, but I was only the labor involved. I only work for free for my family. LOL

Puc, just give them about 3 weeks. It will be right back where it was 6 weeks ago. Goes up triple whatever it came down. Ours was about 2-3 cents a week. Now it will go up 10 cents a week. I knew I should have got some 55 gallon barrels and filled them up.
-
Well for the 5 or so weeks we have had it the lower gas prieces have been nice. Lowest here where I live I paid was $1.98 a gallon. Been rite around $1.99-2.00 Well I bought gas yesterday @ $1.99, today I go by same station and its $2.15. Funny how when it goes down its .02 at a time. Going up its dimes.

Faring Installation
djh3 replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I used a flat antenna for my 900 Vulcan when I put a fairing and radio on it. It was under the fairing like yours. Dont expect to much reception wise. Heck even the RSV dont get very good reception for the big ole stick in back. Realisticly on a trip youl probably use an MP3 player or pandora off the phone or something. I use the radio around town or once we get to an area find a station so you can get local weather. I will have to say you have a really nice looking piece there. Hope it works well for you. -
Hmm I dont hear anything unusual. Other than gear drive noise.
-
Hope that somehow gets you name out and things going up where your at now for you.

So does your neighbors when they go to movin their snow blow it back at ya? Looks like ya covered up somebody's wood pile.

I am going to try to remember and do a short write up with some pics. Problem is I am usually about ready to button it up when I remember "Oh yea I was gonna......."

Oil Pressure Gauge
djh3 replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I was always told about 10 psi per 1000 rpm. Looking at the chart you posted it looks to be about the same. Oil press will drop as it warms up some. I myslef run the Shell Rotella T6 synthetic @ about $21 a gal. Its a 5w40. Pretty good all around oil. As far as the fluctuations of the pressure gauge with turn signal I would say a ground is a good place to start. Charging system I have to defer the question to someone more experienced on that subject. -
So ordered up the part. ended up with this one. If it dont work, oh well will have to skip the fries next time or something.
-
Here is a listing for a RSV light bar. Look at the way it mounts. Here is a Tour Deluxe on ebay. (new) You can see the flat mount bracket is a bit different. But thats not to say you couldnt make it work. Maybe add a alum angle bracket and bolt together if thats all you can find.
-
Ah as far as I know the TD wont work. The whole way the headlights etc mount up and the way the RSV bracket mounts to the bottom of the triple tree is different. It sucks for sure being limited to the one design. Now what you might do is as your out and about find a TD and see how it actually bolts up. Maybe you can make it work. I sure wouldnt think it would be all that terribly different. I'm just repeating what I have been told.

I just got parts and made my own cord with a 3.5mm plug in. If you look close you can see it piggy backed on the OEM plug in.

Brake rotors at JC Whitney
djh3 replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I always wondered why they operated as 2 companies, Wysarsky and Whitney. Last I knew they were in Chicago. Guess everything is changing and not always for the better. JC Whitneys parts were from my past experience sometimes a lesser quality. Have not bought anything from them in probably 10yr. Seems to me unless it specificly says it has to meet oem nd dot spec. But thats not to say it going to be a long lasting part. Back in the 70s bought alot from them. In the days before the intronet it was all we had. -
The standard so to speak headset is probably the J&M standard 5 pin. Fit most goldwings and earlier Harleys. I have not looked in awhile but I think if you look around and shop you can pick them up under $100 each. Seems to me about 80 or 85. Whith that being said, you can not use the smart phone without an adapter that will pobably run around $50. Buddy rich here was selling them at one time also edsets I think has one, but you have to have a gps that has bluetooth. Knowing what I do now, the cables I have bought and built I would go with something like the Sena smh 10 or 20. You wouldnt gettheuse of CB but not a big deal in my world. But there is a work around for that also. But thats in another thread in the GPS threads. I got like the standard headsets and speaker quality is not great. I ended up building a cable so I could plug in earbuds along with the headsets so I could actually hear the wife clear. Maybe the upgraded speakers would be better, I dont know.

Battery or electrical demon
djh3 replied to CMCOFFEY's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OH man Seaking, I remember all that. You got a keyless by-pass relay from me right. Idea was to just forgo the switch, then you couldnt get it to work, Then on to something else and ended up coils and black boxs etc all bit the dust at same time. -
But why go from a dsigned trailer tire, to a narrow bike rim only to mount acar tire. I would think the weight limit in a bike tire less also, unless you set it up to run rear tires. Just say in I thinks your tryin to out think practicality.
-
I had read sometime back that it would break the mounts off. Also a fellow mounted his flags a little lower as to not cause to much stress, and ended up flags beat the paint off the trunk.

I have liked the Vision ever since I rode it. They are spacy looking. (get it Jetson-spacy) The tranys are kind of clunky, but so are the Milwaukee bikes. But you are looking under like 5k, so you aint finding no vision. For that price you will find some v92 king pins and the like. Good bikes but be aware the early ones had a 3rd gear problem. It was corrected by like 2001 production I think. The older Voyagers and Connies are stellar touring bikes from hat I have heard. The Nomads are decent and not alot of vibration I think. You got time on your side. Also cash spends allday anywhere.
