  1. I ran a headlight modulator on my 900 Vulcan and also the RSV when I first got it. About a year after I got the RSV I swapped to an HID and like the light it puts out. I like the headlight modulators. I think they make the bikes stand out. You dont have to spend the big bucks on a kit with the "automatic eye" thing. All the law says is you can not run a modulated light at night. Well DAH. I had like a $30 something one from JC Jipme hooked up thru a toggle switch worked great and if the modulator happened to crap out, I could flip the switch and have full on headlight. I also have a brake light modulator flasher gizmo. I like it, I guess because I think it helps people see you when your stopping. I watch for folks pulling up behind me and let loose of the brake and reapply if I have been sitting so they see the light flash again.
  2. Yup thats about all you need. I forget if its 8 or 10mm socket. A longer handled phillips screw stick helps because you dont have to get your mitts up under the tank as bad. I have washed out paper filters a few times. Some dish soap in hot water, plunge in a few times then rinse let dry for a day or so.
  3. My brother for a lot of years when going cross country, would ride and some times stop @ a rest area on the interstate and crash on a picnic table. Now a days that would be scary I think.

    Memories

At first seeing the information I was thinking it was the water buffalo. Then I remembered those were 750. My bro-inlaw had the Kawasaki 250 triple. For a small cc bike that thing boogied. Would beat my Rd 350 up to about 50.
  5. I tried 2 or 3 "LED replacement" type bulbs with very little success. The way the LED bulbs displace light its more straight out from the little "dome" piece. So look at the bulbs, and when they are in the socket you wil see they point up. So the beam is not projecting the direction you want. If you can find one the ones that look like a lolly pop would work. I made some rear LED brake/run lights for mine from some round lights I found on e-bay for around $6 and made a bracket and got them fit under the lens. No small feat. I have a rear light bar from MA61AMECH (steve) on the rear, and additionaly I found some LED clearence lights on e-bay from R&P carriages. I wired them with some resistors in them to run at partial voltage for running lights and fuel voltage for stop. Mounted on a bracket off the saddle bag to fender rail. Look under trun signals at end of chrome.
  6. I guess I'm terrible. We try to pretty much stay @ Comfort Inn (or their corporate partners) or another chain I have points with. Couple reasons A: got points and they are free or lower cost. That way we can travel a few days more B: Usually have breakfast included so saves some $$ C: I dont have to carry a blasted hair dryer from someone. We do however try to partake of local fare. Have ran across some good ones, and some I dont think I would go back. Last fall on the food front was pretty much a bust for the week +. Best place was in Blue ridge Ga on the north side of the little town next to a bank I think. Next would be an Irish Pub in Savannah Ga. Best dang onion rings I have ever had!!!
  7. OK like I need another project like I need ....... you fill in the blank. But I will ask. I googled "ponchs gauge cluster" and a couple other lines yesterday and could not find any pics. Does anyone have any pics of the original set up, and how it went in? I found one on here but the fellow had added a Tach and digital something or other and had to move the cruise switch. So I dont think this would be an easy mod for a fellow to do. My thoughts are somewhere along the lines of a simple install, maybe a 7 on the skill set. What gauges were in his? I would take a poke and say they would have to be 1.5" gauges otherwise they are just way huge. Volts-water temp-oil press? I am actually thinking some small rectangle LED type readouts. But have to source all this out first.
  8. Tooch: if there is only one HD dealer per provence, where in the heck to you folks buy T-shirts then? I keep hearing the same thing Victory dont have the dealer network. So I pose the question, when was the last time you took a RSV into the shop and the fellows knew what the heck it was? I have heard more horror stories about guys taking their RSV in for something and the dealer flat !@# it up.
  9. The ones in the link I would think are much to large to fit in the area. From what I just measured up on mine even @ 1.5" they are bigger than the opening. Looks as though you will have to make a face plate that extends out a little and mount the mini gauges in it. I have never seen a picture of Ponchs gauge set so really dont have an idea how he made them.
  10. I think you did the right thing. You have offered a "grace" period for the OP to purchase. If he cant decide in a day or so I would say "next". You and I have both been around long enough that we know there are folks that would have snapped it up without even thinking about the 1st guy.
  11. Congrats, many happy years. Always liked them silver wings. I thought Honda hit a market there others were missing. A mid sized bike someone could pack and go tour on.
  12. Milage they stated is about what I get with my RSV. I have thought since I got the bike the MPG aint great. My 900 that had to run at high RPM to keep up got around 50 MPG. My buddies Heritage got mid 40 to 50's. So I dont know about their numbers there. Maybe they had a few of those 0-60 passes figured in on that tank. Some of the remarks guys made about that article are well... funny. Like "you should have compared XYZ Harley and the price would have been...." Yea but knucklehead they were comparing top touring competitors. Bring your best in this range and see what you got. Besides us uneducated fellows see on Harley bagger and cant tell the difference between a classic, ultra classic, electra glide, on and on. I see no difference except the MSRP.
  13. When I was a kid, my dad had a couple of boats. Back then they called them "cuddy cabins" or something. 14-16" and had a cabin up front you could put a mattress in and camp for the weekend or few days. but every time we took that boat out it was something else to buy, fix or whatever not to include gas. SO I picked up somewhere along the line. "A boat is a hole in the water into which you put your money" Me personally I have never had much desire for one. But if you liked it and are happy with the out come kudos. I have hears similar stories about RV's too.
  14. I have run across a couple of "salvage" titled bikes I would take a run at. But I know going in your NOT going to get anywhere near resale on them. But by the same token I should not have to pay anywhere near that. I found a Vic I liked. Fellow has been riding it a couple of years and did some cosmetic stuff, windshield plastics and paint I think. He is only about 3k under what a pristine bike would be. And he thinks he is giving the buyer a deal! You can finance it if you needed to, insurance can be a hassle. I found out recently while selling some used furniture to make room. You make the ad up. Add 10-20% to what you want because nobody will pay you what you think its worth.
  15. Looking good. I remember when you first posted about getting it. Parts for that got to be like a needle in a hay stack. I was at an antique tractor thing a few weeks back. A fellow had a mini trail 50 honda for sale. I don't remember now what he was asking for it, but at the time I told my wife I don't think they were that much new.
  16. Or just get some Plasti-Dip. Paint the lowers and go with it. I think the stuff Eusa is talking about I know better as "helicopter tape" We used it to keep the front of race cars from getting beat to pieces from rocks and sand etc. Check some of these out.
  17. Comparing to my 230's I looked at pricing. Now I remember why I went the 230 route. @ $40 each less I think thats why then. The prices on your link are not terrible less than a Michelin Commander 2, so I would probably go that route. I get you wanted the WW. but for me that would mean pulling the bags all the time to clean the rear tire. Besides if my cage gets tires and they are WW I turn them inside.
  18. Yea the VOG is about the only one I have seen with any activity. The delphi one goes months without anything new. I corget the other one I signed up for.
  19. SilverT, theres a Vic forum that people actually post on? I have like 3 saved in favorites and none get any traffic it seems.
  20. I like mine. It has server me well and I hope keeps on going. When I first got it I wondered about the beltless type drive and the motor being all covered up and such. It does blow a lot of hot air out of the cover around the motor if you use it alot like to run impact or air ratchet etc. I sprayed a trailer and some race car parts back when I got it. I quickly found out it dont hold quite enough air on demand. so I have a portable air bottle plumbed up so I can use it in line.
  21. Usually the U joints have a creaking sound. Being a 6" bed standard cab I dont think it has the mid joint. I could believe the motor mount and when you hit the gas the engine lifts and fan hits plastic shroud. check out the engine bay and shake things around with your hands a it and see if something is loose. Shoot I get levees in the AC/heat ducts and the fan makes them sound like its coming apart.
  22. I have been out of the aircraft maintenance field since 96. Been employed in the racing world since then, well up to Dec31 2014. Now I have to find something else to do.
  23. Didnt use to be that way. Sometimes tech sucks.
  24. Whats the tracking number say?
  25. I have noticed here the last couple days that when I get a notice of the quote thing, the link takes me to the home page. Not the thread.
