  1. I had a 1979 850GS. A great bike. There's been some good posts on this era bike. I totally agree - a tough bike, just maintain like anything else.
  2. I have a Michelin commander II on the back and a Dunlop upfront. Did 1000km with that duo with no issues, really good ride.
  3. Yes it will fit - the first number anyway - its what I bought for my 86 and its a four brush http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007A3VTJ6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 I bought this in April 2015 when dollar was stronger - I have installed it, works great.
  4. In Manitoba, you can pull two trailers if youmeet these three requirements: You must use a fifth-wheel hitch for the firsttrailer to pull another trailer behind it. The combined weight of the trailers isn’t morethan twice your vehicle’s gross vehicle weight. The combined length of your vehicle with twotrailers attached is no more than 23 m (75 ft.).
  5. I changed my screws to hex head screws as they were badly scarred by past efforts to use a Phillips on a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw. I got a set of JIS screwdrivers now for all the other screws.
  6. pouch by Rob Froese, on Flickr It's this pouch/bag thing I referring to. People really value them on ebay apparently and I'm wondering if people leave them on or just ride with out them.
  7. I was wondering what people do with those little bags that hang off the trunk when you're touring? Not sure what they are called even. Do you leave them on? Are you concerned/unconcerned about theft? I work with criminals and maybe I'm too untrusting of people. I know its not a huge issue but I am curious about this. I guess I also wonder if you leave your GPS bracket [GPS removed] etc on the handlebar in the hotel lot?
  8. Thats a good price if you want warranty. Buying on eBay typically means no warranty; you are on your own.
  9. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?99765-Where-is-my-starter-Pinwall/page2&highlight=Pinwall this tells the story.
  10. From my experience I encourage anyone to go anywhere other than Pinfail.
  11. Got the 20s with my 26 yr. old son, he and I are going to Vancouver, B.C. from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to visit his twin who's attending Simon Fraser Univ. [2200km one way] We went on one ride after we got them recently- just 300km - they are sweet. Good distance between - rated 2km- and well built. Paid $558CAD - company immediately bumped up the price to $581 after I purchased online - they were the lowest price anywhere and an authorized dealer.
  12. Bring travel health insurance if you haven't mentioned that already...
  13. I bought a new 4 brush starter off Amazon.com for $89USD. I previously ordered from Pinwall and never received my order for a used starter. Stay away from Pinwall my opinion. Anyway, with a Dekka AGM battery and its 330CCA I would not bother with wire upgrade.
  14. I have the will but not the aptitude; nonetheless I was able to remove and replace a starter [that stopped working without warning] on my 1986 Venture! I was excited; especially when it turned the engine over after installation. That's always a good thing obviously. Drained the coolant out of the 19mm bolt on bottom of water pump; removed the two hoses in front, unfastened the thermostat assembly, backed the elbow out of the water pump, removed bolts from starter and removed electrical cable and "argued" the starter out of its hole with a bit of leverage and finally got it out. I did not remove radiator nor an exhaust pipe, not did I take thermostat housing apart. I am very thankful for the help I found on these pages. It was really good to know about getting a starter that is a four brush versus the original two brush. Together with my new Deka AGM battery and four brush starter I should not have to worry much about getting it to start in the future.
  15. UPDATE Four months later I still have nothing from Pinwall; no starter and no emails. They ignore me. So I called my credit card company and they regretted that they could not do anything but suggested I go to Paypal and plead my case. I did and Paypal came through - refunding me the entire amount. Summary I will not recommend Pinwall for anything. They are rude [ignoring me] and offer poor service [take your money and do not see transaction through to good end]. MAybe they treat foreigners differently I do not know. Anyways, stay far away from Pinwall. I bought a new four brush starter via Amazon and am looking forward to installing that.
