  1. Ya mean I could ask that much for my old 84? Did it sell yet? Actually, I think that was one of the colours for 84, Blue being another one. At least I have seen those colours before. Good luck to him. Cliff
  2. Once again thnx guys. Your clue about being able to find the FF faves on C was a good one Dave. She has not got back to me about whether or not she found her faves or not. I will let you all know if she was successful. Cheers, Cliff
  3. Thanks again Bummer, Dave and Goose. I will wait to see what she says to my initial response and, if she has not been successful, I will forward this and any other new information to her. Cheers all, Cliff
  4. Thanks for all of your input guys. Judging from your experiences FF seems to be a bit fiddly and might depend on where one is using it and/or what one is using it for. I will just tell her that she needs to try another version or just reload the version she is using and to make it a practice of saving her favourites elsewhere in case she has to delete FF in the future and reload. Yeh Charlie, that is what I knew reboot to mean but I thought maybe you might have had something else in mind. Thanks again all
  5. Thanks Charlie. If by reboot you mean format the hardrive and reload everything back on I think that would be beyond her technical capability and I am 3,000 miles away. She still has IE 7 to fall back on so she is not without browsing capability. Do you think that just upgrading to FF3 will do the trick? Are there any other possible solutions How about turning off her firewall just to open FF ?? And then turn it back on when FF is up and running.
  6. I have read the other threads here on Firefox and neither of them seem to fit this problem. I have not used Firefox but I have a friend who uses it and she is now unable to open it. She has some favourites on her Firefox browser that she would like to access. Might there be an easy fix to get it started up again? Like maybe downloading Firefox 3? But, will she lose her favourites in the process? How about changing the security settings on her firewall or maybe just shutting it down temporarily? There seems to be some clued-in folks here on firefox so hopefully one of you has the magic bullet. :backinmyday:Thanks a bunch. Cliff
  7. Wow, 896 lbs at 80 mph. Many states have laws that call for reduced speed while towing, and that is for good reason. There is also a towing weight restriction for every vehicle which includes the vehicle load: 150% would not be it! I hope that overloaded trailer has its own brakes? For your wife's sake I also hope that your good luck continues to hold because that is what it is, just plain good luck: Nothing to do with skill or wisdom. I hope those that read this thread do not follow your example. It is the most extreme example of defiance of conventional trailering wisdom that I have read to date and you are the best example of an accident waiting to happen that I have seen. By the way, you have no choice but to stay with your rig whatever happens given that you are carrying a passenger but I hate to think what would happen if you, or your passenger (wife), get pinned beneath 896 lbs of angry, grinding trailer while sliding down the asphalt at 80 mph. I believe that all of us here have a responsibility to each other to comment responsibly so that we do not leave our fellow riders with bad or even dangerous advice. There are many sites that contain good information for safe trailering. I suggest that anyone who tows, or plans to tow, a trailer consult one or more of these websites to ensure that they will be towing safely. I did not do enough of that and I paid the price for my ignorance. Here is one link: http://www.sherline.com/lmbook.htm. Towing a trailer with any vehicle, particularly a motorcycle, is serious business. Cliff
  8. I have no problems pulling a trailer... I had no problem either Patrick until mine put me down. That experience tends to get one's attention and reminds one of one's mortality. I towed mine for thousands of miles and "never knew it was there". But, when it started fish-tailing, and I could not get it back under control, I sure knew it was there. Anyway, I know that in order to travel comfortably over the long haul a trailer is probably necessary. It is just taking it for granted and putting everything in God's hands that gets us in trouble. So, as I said, Good luck to all who do. I just hope that everyone that does tow takes the time to learn the do's and don'ts of trailering and remains totally vigilant at all times while doing so. Cliff
  9. So, is that the "Kitchen Sink" on top? My sentiments exactly. I was wondering what I was looking at in the picture of the trailer still in the ravine. It looked like a trailer hitched to a vehicle of some kind. Unless that thing is filled with feathers I would expect it is way too much of a load to be pulling behind a motorcycle. My camper was in the order of 300 lbs and I can tell you that when they decide to fishtail there is no way that you are going to stop it and it is going to put you down. Your only option is to jump clear of the mess so you don't get mangled by the machinery. I have since replaced that trailer with a similar SportCamper and have towed it once: Never again! I will not even sell it to another motorcyclist because it is just too risky. Motorcycle manufacturers do not manufacture motorcycle trailers for good reason. They know that they are not safe. I wish everyone well that tows a trailer behind their motorcycle but I know that they are taking an unnecessary risk. Everyone who does this please learn and follow all of the safety precautions that apply to trailering and realize that even then, it is still a high risk activity. Good luck Cliff
  10. Lady luck was with you in more ways than one Alamo: The trailer did not put you down (mine did and it totalled the bike, my trailer and me); The cop didn't give you a ticket for negligent towing (mine did); your trailer did not run into and wreck another vehicle; and neither you nor your girlfriend were injured (I spent 4 days in hospital and months recovering). Trailers may not feel like they are there for thousands of miles but, the threat of this kind of thing happening is always there whether we like to believe it or not: and many don't. It is sort of like helmets ya know. Many folks ride without them and then their family pays the price when they mash their brains out. Anyway, glad everything went your way THIS TIME! Be really careful when towing in future. Airborne Cliff
  11. Carb synch did it for me! It will be interesting to hear back from you on what solved your problem.
  12. Thanks again juggler. I have downloaded Adobe. Should work now. Cliff
  13. I suppose that Adobe is so common and reliable that there is nothing to be concerned about but, all of the sites that I have looked at want to install Activex controls on the computer which can be used for ulterior reason. Is there a particular site that you trust for this download Bob? Thanks, Cliff
  14. Thanks Juggler, I have done a search and the file does not show up. Apparently it did not properly download for some reason. Maybe I need some software that it is looking for I had the file on an old hard-drive but, it won't open for me either that is why I was trying to find it and download it again.
  15. Thanks for the links Bob. I have tried to download them and they say they are done but, I have no idea where they went or what the file name might be so I can look for it. When the downloading is supposedly done I get a blank page with nothing to click on? Does it open for you?
  16. At one point I know there was a service manual on-line here for the 83-85 Ventures. Can't seem to find it now. Is it still here someplace Thanks
  17. I went through this at the end of the riding season last year with my 84. The bike was backfiring seriously on deceleration or when reving the engine while it was on the stand. It also idled rough. At the same time, I was having starting problems due to a weak battery. I put the bike away for the winter thinking that I would have to sort the problem out in the spring. I was thinking things like diaphragms, leaking exhaust system, carb-synch, etc. I bought a new battery this spring before going for a ride and presto, problem solved. The bike runs like a dream. No back-firing, runs smooth as silk with tons of power and idles smoothly. It is like a new bike. I don't know if this makes sense but, that is my experience. I had no idea that a weak battery could cause such performance deterioration. Your problem may be a different one but, if you are due for a new battery it would be a good idea to get one now.
  18. Hi folks, Thanks for all of your inputs so far. The community that I referred to is just across the SC/NC border near Charlotte. It is some 224 miles away from MB. It is the community that is described in the link that Rooster posted above. Our friend has been concentratiing her search on NC but was referred to the Carolina Lakes community by a friend who owns a house there. I have given our friend the link to this thread and asked her to forward any questions she may have so I can post them for her. Thanks again for your inputs. Cliff
  19. Do we have anyone living in or familiar with Charlotte, NC? We have a friend (My best friend's widow) who is planning to relocate to warmer climes and is looking at a development called "Sun City Carolina Lakes" which is just across the border in SC. If anyone knows the area, what are its good points and bad points if any. I know that is a pretty broad question but, have at it anyway. Anything you know about the area will be good information since we know nothing about it. Thanks folks. _________________
  20. Good post Red1, my sentiments exactly. I hope that small minority who have misunderstood others' intents or who have used this forum to exorcise their frustrations will now have second thoughts and return to their normal civilized, happy, prozac-induced, laid-back personas so Don can put the zantac away.
  21. I have not checked in here in a long time but only because I am too busy with other things. So, I was blown away to see this post. My impression of this site has always been what Don has asked it to be in his post: Peaceful, friendly, helpful, non-confrontational etc. I had never noticed any of the behaviors that Don has referred to but, I guess some crap has crept in along the way. Sorry to hear that, I guess the human condition had to manifest itself here sooner or later. Having said that, I am not going to search the site to determine the extent of the problem for myself but, I will bet holes to doughnuts that, if I did, I could count the number of offending items on one hand! Well maybe two! Oh what the heck, maybe I would need to take my shoes off too. Even at that though, I would say that this site still has to be the greatest spot on earth to chill out and feel that one is among friends. I take your point though Don, and your reminder of what is good behavior and what is not is appropriate. At the same time, while it is no excuse, the times that we live in are stressful times and some people are always sub-consciously looking for places to vent. So, it is good to be reminded every now and then that venting always hurts a friendship while biting ones tongue only results in a sore tongue. The bottom line Don is, well said, and you may need to say it again periodically, the human condition being what it is. In the meantime, this place rocks and always will because you made it what you wanted it to be, and I remember why.
  22. These guys are not in the imediate area that you are looking for but they do the work. http://www.thechromepit.com/ http://www.snschrome.com/
  23. I dropped into my local Harley dealer a couple of days ago just to chat. He is always trying totalk me into buying a Harley so he quotes me an Ultra at $22K Canadian which is about $23 USD these days. Then, he goes on line and finds one in the US for about $18K USD. So, if you want a basic Ultra, and you shop around, you can get one pretty cheap these days. However, you can get a Venture a lot cheaper and you don't need to add anything to it to make it a great bike: And the chirp is free! Cliff
  24. Now here is a pet that you ned to worry about: http://glumbert.com/wii/view.php?name=pethippo
  25. That is the $64K question. It has been discussed here and elsewhere on a number of occasions. Given that they have not updated the RSV with stuff like ABS, FI, MP3/IPOD, heated seats and grips, power adjustable and snap-on windshields, built-in passing lights, optional GPS etc. it kind of makes one wonder if they aren't just planning on phasing it out. Or...............do they have something really big in the works? The suspense is killing me!
