  1. Funds Paypal'd - Thanks so much! Doug
  2. Has anyone tried them out on a first generation (83-85)? How were they? Thanks, Doug
  3. Did you put the metal water pump impeller blade in it? How much do you want for the water pump? Thanks, Doug
  4. I just emailed the place that I'm interested in taking their Experienced Riders Class($70 for 5 hrs - on a Saturday). They contact you to schedule for the class. I appreciate the heads up! I considered taking the beginners one for $200, but they say if you have a Motorcycle endorsement and/or over 1000 hours of riding experience, to take the Experienced Riders Class. Doug
  5. I wondered about that - Thank you for the info! How much do these courses cost? Sounds like it would be very helpful to have instructors observing & giving feedback/guidance! Doug
  6. What about clutch wear doing the friction zone thing? The brake part doesn't bother me any - doesn't seem like that wear would be too bad, but I wonder about the clutch wear, though. I've been playing around with it a little today, like in the Subway parking lot when I went to pick up some lunch. It was nice to be able to go real slow in the busy parking lot and feel like I was in control still. Thanks, Doug
  7. Thank you for the clarification, Mike, on the proportioning valve function & hydraulic clutch heads up! I'm excited to start looking at these DVD's. Doug
  8. I just received 3 of the DVD's in the series a couple of hours ago in the mail at work - I've just read the covers so far and a little bit off of a fold out that shows some practice exercises (friction zone stuff). I have an '83 Venture - how does the linked brakes on the foot brake affect doing the maneuvers? Doug
  9. Are the Front Brake levers from the 86-90 Ventures different from the 83-85 Front Brake Levers? The lever on my '83 Venture is bent at a weird angle that makes it awkward to grab & pull without messing with throttle control, & I don't think it's safe. It looks like I'm maybe going to have to buy a used master cylinder on ebay in order to get a good brake lever, and I saw a master cylinder off of an 86-90 Venture - thought maybe the brake lever is probably the same - does anyone know for sure? Also, my brake lights don't light up with the front brake - only with the foot brake lever, so I suspect the switch on the master cylinder is bad. Maybe its not so bad to have to buy the master cylinder if it has a good switch in it as well. If anyone has a good 83-85 front brake lever and/or master brake cylinder they would sell me, please PM or email me. There is one used '83 front brake master cylinder on ebay that they want $50 for with a "buy it now" + $12 shipping, and it looks like it's 36 years old and has seen better days - seems kind of pricey, doesn't it? I would think it would have to look very pretty & function perfectly to pay that much for one. Thanks for any info. Doug
  10. Well, my bike seems to be behaving itself pretty much. I'm kind of embarrassed - I think a combination of; (1) me being extremely tired (long day's work + the dirt road riding & stress heightening my awareness of the bike, handling, etc., (2) the concrete freeway (some of it had been ground down a bit by the state crews, leaving patterns that essentially makes grooves), (3) quite windy evening...all adding up to - ?? http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif mostly me http://www.venturers.org/Forum/images/smiles/icon_redface.gif ?? 11. I did check both axle nuts yesterday on the way home - the cotter pins were both intact & looked good. I rebuilt my forks last month & also installed aftermarket progressive springs; I was careful about torquing my front axle bolt/nut & pinch bolts/nuts. I also paid close attention to tightening the top tube pinch bolts/nuts at the time. I also had checked the head movement when I had it on the centerstand with the front jacked up, and the movement was right for the head bearing nut tension. I need to look at things this evening (hopefully). I don't know what shape my swingarm and bearings are in. the bike has about 35,000 miles. Last evening on the way home, I pulled off the left trunk, and the final drive bolts, etc., looked OK. Doug
  12. Yesterday I had to ride 5 miles of uphill, washbaorded, winding dirt road - wasn't fun at all. I took most of it at about 5-10 mph. Has anyone had any problems with their bike (mine is an 83 Venture) handling weird after riding on similar roads? It feels very weird at speed on pavement now - like I'm riding on a road filled with grooves that my bike wants to track. I wonder if something was bent or something. I guess something could have become loose. Or maybe my tire pressure is just low (which doesn't make sense why the dirt road would result in low tire pressure). Any ideas and/or experiences? Thanks, Doug
  13. I've had several Honda's; I'm new to these Ventures - mine is an '83 with 33,000 miles a couple of months ago when I bought it - almost 35,400 miles now - I commute on it to work 25 miles each way - going up to a daily 100 mile round trip commute in August. It's pretty rough - I have to ride through a great canyon and around a beautiful reservoir to get to work! lol. Anyways, I have Dunlops on it, and Rick @ Buckeye performance was telling me about 3 weeks ago that these bikes really like Avons, and to pay extremely close attention to the mfg date (so they are new, new). If Avon looks like they are crapping out on us, what's good to put on them as an excellent alternative? Doug
