That rider is LUCKY he wasn't hurt worse!! For one thing looks like he was wearing shorts! His backpack probably helped out saving his upper body, no jacket. At least he had a helmet!! Looks like he chose the wrong way to swerve, had he swerved left he probably would have missed it! Hope they catch up with the boat owner and throw the book at him...

Here ya go KIC, straight out of the 2nd Gen Read Only Tech Library... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?258-Syncronizing-the-Carbs I suppose doing them out of proper order, you could EVENTUALLY get them set, I remember weaaaaay back when I first got my 1st gen I was told "just keep playing with the screws until they are all balanced..." EDIT: And now as I read it, you DO balance the left side, then the right side, and then left to right! So, my previous post is wrong! I do know, however, that the sequence is different with the 1st gens, or at least I think so... Hmmm, time for a little research Oops, my face is RED!! The sequence is the same for the 1st gen after all!! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?495-Syncronizing-Carbs Hmmmm, wonder where I ever got the idea they were different?? Maybe from the error in the factory service manual where the two adjusting screws are labeled backwards... -

Great!! I recommend 1 full can of seafoam to about 3/4 to a full tank of gas then drive it like ya stole it! Also a note, depending on how much gunk has built up seafoam treatments can foul out your plugs, but with your lower mileage it probably won't be an issue... -
Yup!! Probably just needs a good Cyber cleaning, probably infected with all sorts of bugs, malware, etc!!!

OK good luck!! There are other minor possibilities that may or may not be an issue. Depending on the mileage, you may need to adjust your valve clearance, but I personally thin your issues are carb related. The Vmax uses pretty much the same engine/carb setup, just different jetting, and minor differences, so your mechanic is on the right track... -

How do i get this off?
bongobobny replied to Air Ready Auto's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK the water pump should be pulled to get it off! You should be able to find a new one, sorry, don't have the part number handy. Looks like it suffered the old crash bar pushed back by laying it down failure. Is it leaking?? You can temporarily fix it by sanding it down at the gash then applying 2 part plastic epoxy to it... PS replace the rubber O rings when you replace the elbow PPS with the water pump off, if you have the plastic impeller on the water pump replace it with the metal one. -

Well, by golly the next time we vacation in AZ I will just have to collect that then! Yay!!!! I did something good for the day!! -
Plan on spending MANY hours walking the Riverwalk in San Antonio!! Also, If you happen to indulge in a Margeurita there, you will afterwords view regular sized ones as very puny!! There is one place that makes a 64 oz one, yup, a half a gallon sized one!!

Numorous questions on 1st gen
bongobobny replied to Rags06moto's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK the guy to call is my good friend Earl Harrell, Skydoc_17 on the site. His cell is 814-937-8743. He will get you all set up with what you need. The battery warning light: OK what that "sensor" on the battery does is detects the level of electrolyte in the battery. As long as that probe is submerged in electrolyte it actually works as a voltmeter probe halfway across the battery and sends a lower level voltage to the CMS as a logic level voltage to turn the light out. If your battery acid gets low the probe is no longer submerged as it stops sending voltage to the CMS, the light turns on! As long as your battery acid is topped up the light SHOULD go out, but, as the probe gets old it develops a coating on it turning it from a conductor to an insulator! Pull the probe out of the battery and try cleaning it with a paste made from baking soda and a drop of water. You can also sand it clean with some very fine sandpaper, like 800 grit paper. Rear brakes: Was the level of brake fluid too high??? As brake fluid heats, it expands. If you do not have a significant volume of air in the reservoir the brake fluid has no alternative than to push the brake pistons out applying the brakes! The brake fluid reservoir should only be filled half to 2/3 up, just like the front brake and clutch reservoirs being filed up around 1/2 way to 2/3 way up the sight glass with the reservoir setting level. Of course you could have an issue with a plugged up rear master cylinder, proportioning valve, etc. but because you mentioned the problem occurred while riding i.e. warmed up it makes me think overfilled reservoir... -

Boss, we ALL have our own tastes! That's why there are soooo many different styles and models of motorcycles out there. Heck, even with 2nd gen Venture motorcycles, look at how you NEVER find two identical ones! Even the same year and color will be accessorized completly different!

Randy, how CAN you sleep without your CPAP????? Man, I LOVE mine!! When I don't use it, I keep waking up feeling like I'm out of breath and dieing, because in reality that's exactly what IS happening! SLEEP apnea CAN KILL YOU!!!!! It took me about a half a year to really get used to mine but now I literally can't live without it! I also notice I seem to be less congested using it, and also seem to have less colds. It took a while to find the right mask for me, and several visits to the clinic to come up with the right humidity and air settings. The type of machine, CPAP, VPAP, BiPAP makes a difference too! Now days the great thing is being 80% disabled, the VA picks up the tab on everything!

Cruise control not working

Ummm, I'm sure Wayne will chime in soon, but if I recall the issue was excessive play in the clutch handle, or was it a loose switch... -

bongobobny replied to NewbeeMC9's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Exactly Heather!! I've seen similar when you try to sync a 2nd gen with the same sequence as the 1st gen. 2nd gen sync's fronts together, rears together, then front to back. Saw a guy play with the carbs for probably over an hour trying to get it right... -
It's got kind of a VMAX look to it now...
-
Not necessarily. Only if it is #2 misfiring, or the whole thing (all 4) goes south. If the failure is on one of the other cylinder circuits, the tach will still keep working...

Other possibility is vacuum leak associated with that carb. Could be an issuer with the gaskets on the carb boot (interface between the carb and the head), maybe a leak with the YICS, etc... It could also be that the #1 carb is waaaaay out of sync! -
Hope that fixes you problem!! The other common issue for this is the TCI...
