  1. OK Dave, why did the Goth cross the road?? Because he was pinned to the Chicken...
  2. Yes, that is correct for a full wave antenna. A half wave would be 5 meters, and a quarter wave would be 2.5 meters or around 8 feet! The "loading coil" actually makes up for some of the distance of the antenna by being a coiled up piece of the wire instead of a straight piece of wire. They are generally placed in the middle of the antenna, with the top half being adjustable to "tune" the length for a perfect electrical match of the wavelength of the broadcasted signal. Wavelength is inversely proportional to the frequency. The higher the frequency (Hz) the shorter the wavelength... Us HAM Radio operators used to have the rights to the old 10 meter band before the government took it away from us for the new "Citizen's Band" radio. Originally there was 19 channels, but due to the popularity of CB they expanded it to 40 channels. I used to have a Heathkit "Apache" ham radio transmitter that was made pre CB era and had the 10 meter band as part of it's transmitting capabilities! Those "Apache's" became very sought after by illegal CB'ers as they put out over 200 watts of transmitting power instead of the legal 5 watts!
  3. OK hopefully so! It may have been just because the oil filter was dry. It is a good practice to never install an oil filter dry and empty. Now granted you can't fill the filter and then try to install it horizontally but you CAN put some oil in it and spin it around sideways some and keep adding oil until you get to the point where it will start to pour out when on it's side... We are assuming that your dealer sold you motorcycle oil, the weight was correct!
  4. Hmmm, 2 mm is a fair amount thicker, isn't it?!!? However, I'm pretty sure that the caliper used on the MK2 is the same caliper used on the 2nd gen...
  5. gaj, that one is for a 1st gen, ronjolly states he is looking for a stator for an '06 RSTD so it won't fit his...
  6. Wow!! Just read your post on Facebook this AM about the continued delay on the RV and now this?!!? When it rains it pours, eh? Prayers up...
  7. Well Big Tom just wait until you hear about the festivities for Friday!!! After breakfast, we are leaving on a ride at 10:30 to the town of EDEN, NY which is the home of the original kazoo factory! Eden is a nice town to stroll around in and there are several places to grab lunch, and of course ICE CREAM!! Here's a link to the official town website... http://www.edenny.org/ And here's a link to the Kazoo Factory and gift shop... http://www.edenkazoo.com/index.php We will be leaving Eden at 3:30 so we can get back in time for the annual awards dinner at Chanderson's Steak House at 6:001 The food there is excellent as always! Dress code for dinner is '60's Hippy clothing which is also the theme for the big party after the diner at the campsite. At the awards dinner we are going to have a "Card Raffle" to determine who wins the grand prize worth well over $100, so that EVERYBODY has an equal chance at winning!! The grand prize is a mystery box so you HAVE to buy a playing card to find out what you might win! Along with the grand prize, there are a few other great items that will be up for auction leading up to the grand prize! Profits from the auction and raffle go to pay for the cost of the prizes, the cost of the band on Saturday (more on that later) and other freebies offered like water, etc. so bid often on the auctions!! After dinner, as mentioned, we are going to have a great '60s Hippy party (sans the "recreational drugs" of the era) with music from the later '60s! There will be prizes for best costumes, best dancers, etc. I'm sure everybody will have a great time!!!
  8. Make up some stickers that say "Wannabe" and place under the Harley logo... Actually Don, the stock mirrors were one of the first to go when I bought the '09. Couldn't see crap out of 'em! My choice was some large sort of rounded out rectangles aftermarket mirrors off Fleabay for around $30 if I remember correctly. They aren't a huge fashion statement but not fugly either but the main part is I can see clearly now...
  9. My feelings are they are a pretty decent bike, but never rode one so can't comment. You know as well as I do, Evan, you have to swing a leg over before you can make any judgement at all. Usually that's when you know whether or not a particular bike is right for you or not...
  10. I have proof!! I have a picture, actually several, of my cat on the seat of my '84...
  11. Funds sent to Lewis, Freebird I DEMAND you hand deliver my "prize" to me preferably at the WNY NE Regional Rally...
  12. No, crossing at Fort Erie/Buffalo Wednesday night and am spending overnight with Wizard765 in Caledonia Ontario. We are departing there Thursday morning with them to take the scenic route up to Mindon avoiding all the cities on the way up there. Not sure how many will be in this group, but will see you in Mindon Thursday afternoon...
  13. Sort of like this... Here's a link on how to take screenshots Jack! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots
  14. Awwww, you should have zoomed in on the bikes Don...
  15. Blast from the past...
  16. Howdy!! Crash rails can be found on Ebay, or try Pinwall parts, a huge motorcycle boneyard in Ohio which will have what you need, but IMHO prices just a teeny high. Along with the new crash bar I HIGHLY recommend getting in touch with member Carbon_One as Larry makes a set of reinforcement brackets which make the crash bars a whole lot stronger!! Here's the link to his classified ad... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=12&title=carbon-one-crash-bar-braces&cat=15 Now as far as low speed manners, yes lowering the front end helps a lot! Two things to do, replace your front tire with a 130 series, and lower your front forks about an inch by loosening the pinch bolts and sliding the forks further up into the triple tree. Try to be as precise as possible when doing this. While we are on the subject of the forks, make sure the air pressure in both forks are equal!! There is no equalization plumbing on the RSV so it needs to be periodically checked. This is more so for handling on bumps than low speed but it doesn't hurt to check. You can also install a kit on the rear end which actually raises it in the rear making the bike more level and helps low speed handling. After a while, though, you just get used to the RSV's top heaviness and low speed handling but yes it can be helped out somewhat. I'm sure others will chime in on the subject and offer different and varied opinions... Myself I like to let the old oil and sludge drain for a couple of hours before I install a new filter and put the plug back in and put the new oil in, but you are right, real easy job!!!
  17. Nice trick with the diaphragms Gary!
  18. Wouldn't ya know it Dennis, changed MY oil yesterday and what did I do?? You guessed it! Ya jinxed me I say, ya jinxed me...
  19. OK!! Double check the connectors to the dash, but it is sounding more and more like the RLU...
  20. Yes MJ, unfortunately due to Chad's wedding, we had to push the rally back a week...
  21. He has a trike, so it's always level, but good point Randy...
  22. You did check your tail light bulbs, correct?? That will cause the white dash light to be on if even one of the bulbs is out. But the smoke you mentioned sure does sound like the RLU... Was the white dash light on before the smoke letting incident??
  23. Yah!! Because oil is viscous it takes a loooong time to drain into the pan.. Best time to check the level is after the bike sets overnight... As stated compression washers are NOT like crush washers, you use them over and over! Just unscrew the drain plug to let a little out, say a half pint, and get on with life! Red Rider's suggestion will actually work, you won't kill your engine, but you sure will get a lot of oil all over the place, like in your airbox, down the drain hoses, etc... I don't advise it, I'm sure he was being facetious.
  24. Oatmeal to stop major water leaks, or an egg!! The bit about getting better gas mileage is about as dumbass as you can get IMHO!!!
