Leveling Links Question
Double D replied to Double D's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Went to church tonight and the pastor had a good sermon about facing your fears. So I got home changed closes and figured that I would do a couple of things to the bike. I have been having a little vibration in the front end and after reading some of the posts here I figured I needed to tighten the steering head bolts. When I lifted the front wheel off the ground the wheel turns all the way to the left all by itself. The hardest thing about this job was loosening the top nut. Pliers would not fit, adjustable wrench would not fit but I did find out that a 1 1/16" open end would do the job. Finished that job pretty quick and fingured that the Good Lord was with me and I should have no porblem putting the leveling links on all by myself. Well, got the bolts loose, took the nuts off and figured that I would take the bottom bolt out first--everything was going great until the bottom bolt would not clear the Carbon One lift adapter that I was using. No matter what I did the bolt hit the adapter.. Well long story short---I put everything back together and figured that the Good Lord wanted me to wait until Boomer comes over on Saturday to do this job. If I am doing something wrong please let me know. I have used the adapter several times and have no problems getting the bike balanced and in the air but never noticed how it blocked the link bolts. -

Thanks, but since I don't plan to take the wheel off to put the leveling links on then I am OK then. I had the dealer grease these when I had my tire replaced 1500 miles ago so I should be good to go. -

What splines are you all talking about? I have looked in the service manual and can not find (or maybe I don't know what I am looking for) what you all are referring to. Someone please enlighten me. -

I am not too good with mechanical tools but I am do pretty good with woodworking tools. I built myself a nice 16x16 workshop and packed it with all kinds of woodworking stuff not to mention cable TV. My next project is to build a custom bed for my grandson with a special hiding place just for him. See you on Saturday. -

I could not ask for anything better. Sounds like a plan. I have plenty of tools but no skills. -
I have an 06 Midnight and my antenna broke at the plastic connector. Went to the local dealer in Hopkinsville Kentucky, he called Yamaha and 3 days later he installed a new antenna. Now I have to set the standing wave. When I asked the dealer about setting the antenna to match the radio, he again called Yamaha and they told him that there is nothing in the manual about setting the standing wave. Never the less, I got a $175 antenna for free.

Hair blower and WD-40. Works wonders and will not hurt the paint. -

OK guys, with all this talk of grease and splines, are you sure that I can do this by myself? And what splines, will I see them when I take the old links off? What type of grease do I use? Is there anybody close to my location that may want to SHOW me how to do this? I may wait until Saturday night to do it since I want to ride with the SCRC on Saturday, knowing my luck I will get it apart and not be able to get it all back together again. I may jsut want until June 3 and have you guys show me at maintenance day. -

It is a SCRC meet and greet. It is posted on the Middle TN Chapter #6 forum. Here is the posting. 6113.1 Members of SCRC from Tennessee and Kentucky are heading for Barkley State Park next weekend. Are you? Subject: Meet and Greet Cruisers in the western part of the state are invited to a meet and greet at Lake Barkley State Park (Lodge Restaurant) on Saturday, April 21. Lets see how many SCRC members we can get to attend this meet and greet from the western part of KY or nearby TN chapters. The plan will be to arrive at Lake Barkley State Park for lunch around 11:30 am. The Borderline Chapter will leave Springfield, TN meeting point at 9:30 am and ride to Lake Barkley State Park. Please reply to me through this email or the following delphi post on the KY State Forum (230.1) whether any of your chapters will attend (with estimate of numbers) so I can advise the state park to have enough food available. -

Thanks Boomer, BTY are you going to the Meet and Greet at Lake Barkley? SCRC memeber from around the area are meeting there on Saturday for lunch. I plan to make the ride--see you there if you go. -
:feedback:I just received the Diamond R leveling links and will be putting them on tomorrow since it it supposed rain and I try not to ride in the rain. My question is this, I have read the write up in the tech section and it seems pretty straight forward. I am not a wrench turner by any means so is there anything I need to watch out for before starting this project? I have a lift and the lift adapter From Carbon One. Is there anything other than the EIS Reed Valve that needs to be removed to do this job, like removing the wheel, saddlebags will I need to have my wife standing by with a first aid kit? These are just a few of the questions I have.

Squidley hope you haven't mailed the hole cutter yet, went to Lowe's today and picked one up. Already drilled out the baffles in the intake side of the mufflers. Sounds OK, I get a good deep mellow tone at idle and not too loud cruising. I may give it a few days and then decide if I will drill out the back baffles also. Thanks for everyone help.
-
You have a PM.
-
Thanks Denden, I just put the stock RK pipes on my bike tonight and as most of you know there is not a really big difference for the stock pipes. I think there is a more of a fine rumble at idle. I will take your advise and take them off and drill a 1 1/8" hole in the intake side just to get the low rumble with no increase in noice.
-
I guess I did not make myself clear, I have the RK mufflers and what I wanted to know is if I drill a couple of 1/2" holes in the intake park of the muffler will it give it the sound that I want.
-
OK, I do not want to remove the baffles completely (too loud) I just want a mellow tone at take off and not loud at cruising. If I drill 2 ea 1/2" holes in the intake end of the pipes will I get the results that I am looking for? Or will I need to drill more?

2nd Gen Hitch question
Double D replied to garyjzr's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just ordered the cooler rack below along with the Modulite wiring harness. When I get it all mounted I will post some pics. The Venturedad hitch when on is about 15 minutes and looks great. -
I have had my CD player for almost a year now with no problems. Road in Tennessee are OK with hardly any skipping but if I plan to ride in Kentucky I just listen to the radio or use my MP3.

Other than having them do a route lay out for me, that is the only time that I have called it.

I agree they look the same so I ordered the Venture. I have a 38" waist with a 32" inseam so I ordered the XXL. They fit like a glove over my pants. The adjustable knee pads are perfect. I had to move them to the lowest position to make them fit over the knee when riding. I do know one thing, I do not think I will be wearing these thing in the summer. It was 28 degree the other morning when I worn them to work and I was very comfortable. They are much warmer than my lined leather pants and more comfortable also. They would be too warm in the summer IMHO. I will give them a try in the spring without the lining and just see how warm they are. I have the Tour Master jacket also and the zipper in the back that connects the pants and jacket is a good idea keeping everything in place while going down the road. I got my for $97 and freeUPS shipping.

Thanks Juggler for the review. I am still undecided. Since I live in Tennessee, I may just get a pair of light weight over pants for summer wear and keep my heavy leather pants for winter.
-
Juggler, now that you have had time to really give these pants a good trial, give us the real low down. I want to order a pair to use in the early spring, fall and winter since I think they will be too hot for summer. What are your thoughts?

I got my ID card about 4 months after my purchase of my '06 Midnight. The good thing about the Yamaha road side assistance is that they will send you maps and do a route lay out for you. I called them last July before Vogel and they provided me with maps and phone numbers and locations of all the local Yamaha dealers from my home to Vogel.
