  1. The guy I bought it from said it had 8" wheels on it originally,.....he put the 12" wheels on. I may want to lower it as suggested, but I'd really like to keep the 12" wheels. I'll definitely have to lengthen the tongue, which will also give me the chance to fab a cooler rack for the front. Definitely have to lower the tongue so that it'll sit level when connected.
  2. Went and picked it up today. Trailer was as advertised, in decent shape. Seems pretty light, but....THIS THING IS HUGE.......Definitely bigger than other bike trailers I've seen. I'm not worried at all about the weight, but with the size of it, I'm hoping it's not gonna be a problem to tow with the bike. Having never towed a trailer with a bike before, I'm a tad bit nervous about it.
  3. Yeah, I think it's worth it. It comes in handy for cleaning and oil changes. Putting it up on the centerstand is comparable to a first gen. Takes a bit of ummfh, but it's no problem for me. (5'11" 210lbs) Might be a problem for someone a bit lighter. I put a Rivco on my 06 when I first got it. Paid full price. If I were to do it again I'd probably wait until I found one used. They pop up on this site every once in a while. Installation is fairly quick and easy.
  4. That's OK....If I thought another VentureRider would do that to me without asking first, I wouldn't have posted. I know I can trust y'all.
  5. I'm taking the drive up tomorrow evening to check it out, and most likely buy it. Thanks for the input.
  6. I do like to start it once or twice over the Winter just to change the position of the cam, so that it alternates the valve springs that are compressed during storage. I suppose all it'd take to do that is a quick press of the starter button without actually starting it. Point being......I don't like leaving a motor in the same position too long. Just my $0.02:cool10:
  7. http://mansfield.craigslist.org/for/4707024957.html I came across this on Craigslist and was thinking about pulling the trigger on it. It looks like it'd make a good bike trailer if I lengthen the hitch arm a bit. My concern is that it looks like it sits higher than most bike trailers. I'd like to hear any opinions before I make a move on it.
  8. I couldn't disagree more. I've an 87 First Gen and an 06 Second Gen with pillowtop seats. They are completely different bikes, and I love them both, but, at least with the pillowtop seats, my Second Gen is more comfortable, Hands down.
  9. Congratulations Gramps...!!!
  10. Here's what's on mine. Didn't want to have to take the ol' gal out of the shed for a better pic, but it's the same on both sides.
  11. I believe ya, but I must mention that there's a chrome bracket below the trunk that extends out to each side, with holes to mount antennas. Is that factory, or was it added by a po?
  12. I've never been real big on accessories. I think some machines look great just the way they are straight off the floor. I understand tht there's other bikes out there identical to mine, and I'm OK with that, so I don't need to personalize either. I do think the cassette player is dumb. I'd like to remove it and put in the gauges like Yammer Dan has,(did you install those or did he?) but I've a Molly Hatchet cassette in there, and I'd hate to lose that.
  13. I'm no doc, but 6'2....220 sounds pretty normal. I'm 5'11, 210, and I don't consider myself overweight.....at least not by much.....but the size of your frame means a lot too. They try to make an end all list of what people should weigh, and it just doesn't work that way. Anyhoo, eating healthy is always a good idea. Ya gotta treat yourself from time to time. In most things, moderation is key. Gettin' old ain't for sissies. Be well.
  14. Are you talking about the CB or the Radio antenna...??? I took the antenna off my first gen when I got it back in 08, and I know it's in the garage somewhere, but I don't know if it's what you're lookin' for. I'll have to dig it out and look it over.
  15. She must be quite a lady to have cowpuc so smitten. Happy Birthday Tippy, and keep doin' what yer doin'!!!
  16. My 87 is blue, and it IS the fastest color. Only problem is that I can't ride it at night......the headlight can't stay ahead of Ol' Blue. I do notice that I don't age when I let her kick up her heals....:rotf:

I'm sure someone will take you up on that pretty quick. I've a few things to clear out myself.......If I ever get around to cleaning out the garage..... Anyone need a first gen muffler? (Mark I left side)
  18. Dern it. Sounds like a great weekend, but I've plans that weekend. Gonna take my 92 year old dad (and his girlfriend) for a weekend trip to Wilksbarre to see the house where he was born, and where his Mother (my Grammie) was laid to rest. I'd sure like to join you folks, but can't do it. Hope ya have a great time.
  19. I suppose that if I could tow the motorhome with the bike, I'd consider it, but since I like to "rough it" SMOOTHLY.....I'll trailer the bike to weekend get togethers.
  20. She's a beaut !!!
  21. Glad to hear you made it through OK. Reminds me of a time (In my 73 Vega) when a van in front of me hit a skunk, and when I went over it, it was spraying straight up in the air. I couldn't get the smell out for a month.
  22. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.....I'll focus some good Karma thoughts in your direction....lol...
  23. What a great weekend! Love meeting new folks. Some FANTASTIC campfire talk. Couldn't have had a better weekend for riding, just wish we'd gotten there early enough on Friday to ride with the group. The only bad thing was the dust at the campground. Turned my beautiful black cherry to a greyish dust color. Somehow Squid managed to keep his bike sparkling. lol. Stopped at a flea market on the way home which made the wife happy. Made it home safe then spent the rest of the day under my neighbors blazer trying to drill out a bolt which had broken out of the rear yoke while he was changing a u-joint. All in all a great day...definitely a full day. I'll have to clean the motrhome out and try to wash the dust off tomorrow. Thanks Dave for putting together a great weekend!
  24. Sorry for your loss. You may take some comfort knowing that this final process was a lot harder on you than it was on her. I fear we'll be going through the same situation soon. Take care.
  25. I hate it when I have a "go back trip", but when I get into the house or garage, I stand there in a fog, wondering "what did I come in here for?" Sometimes I give up and go back to work, only to encounter the same problem and have to "go back" again. Gettin' old ain't for sissies.
