  1. Hi all, Likewise I haven't posted very often, between work and kids and trying to keep on top of the "honey do" list. I seem to sneak away for a ride when I get a spare minute. That said this site is a great resource for info and specs. I also like to just browse the posts. Not a whole lot of bikers around here, and most of them like to spend more time at the local Tim Hortons standing next to their shiny bike rather than riding. There seem to be a lot of "riders" here. You can tell from the posts. :12101:Dana
  2. Had our first snow flying this morning. Weather is starting to get unpredictible now. 14 degress yesterday, frost this morning with a cool 2 degrees. I've heard that it's supposed to be a long white winter. I had hoped to get in one more ride for the season but I'm not sure. Most people I've talked to around here have had their bikes put away for a few weeks. Oh well, soon be time to break out the sleds!! Kind of envious of you guys who can ride year round though. :canada:Dana.
  3. Interesting to hear about the rpm thing. I was thinking that I wasn't getting great mileage during the first few rides on this bike. I wasn't running her at very high rpms at all. On my most recent ride I was riding a bit harder (mostly highway at 100 - 110km/h) and it seemed that I got much better gas mileage. I actually got very similar mileage to my fathers 650 V-Star. I guess that I have to run at a little higher rpms from now on. Any suggestions on what I should aim for? Dana:12101:
  4. Hey David, I had a similar problem with my '84. It would start ok at first, but then not have enough juice to start the bike after a short (one hour) ride. The battery looked good and would charge up fine on the charger. It wouldn't loose a charge over night when left on the bike. It seemed like the only problem was that it didn't seem to be charging while i was riding. I thought that it might be the stator, but since I'm not very mechanical I decided to try swapping out the battery before I got into something that I didn't know a whole lot about. It ran fine with the new battery and I haven't had a problem. I figure that the battery was done for even though it looked good. Don't know if this helps, but it might be a simple fix. Good luck. Dana.
  5. Some good points here. I find it a little funny that this thread is here today. I was out on a day ride yesterday with my father and noticed that the bike was handling a little loose when I hit a pothole patched with fresh ashphalt. Turned out my rear tire was a little low. I guess that in the rush to get moving I didn't take the time to do much of an inspection (guilty of squeezing the brake and flicking the headlights). The old man gave me a good talking to about taking more time to look the bike over before riding. There's a serious lesson to be learned here. Luckily it wasn't a big deal, but things can happen. A little bit of caution can save you a whole lot of trouble sometimes. I always gave the guys with the sparkly bikes a hard time, but I think that from now on I'll keep mine shined up too. (At least as shiney as I can get a faded blue 1st gen!!)
  6. Here in Newfoundland the prices on bikes have been creeping up as well. That said, I just picked up an '84 Venture with 70K for $1500.00 Personally I jumped all over the deal and probally wouldn't have gotten the bike if word had gotten out. The guy was eager to sell and I was in the right place at the right time (for once). I've seen similar bikes advertised for upwards of $3500.
  7. Congrats on the Venture. I just picked up an '84 mid June. Actually just got in from an evening ride. Love this bike so far!! Its like riding around in your arm chair!!
  8. I know where you're coming from Seaking. Here in Newfoundland we're pretty limited to our rides. Quite a lot of repetition of routes. That said, I'd rather run loops on my bike than tour endlessly locked in a box!! It is the ride!! The scenery here is awe inspiring to say the least, not unlike Nova Scotia. Only thing that can really dampen you're day (pun intended) is the weather. It was raining here yesterday with winds of 115km/h!! Happy Canada Day!!
  9. Thanks for the quick reply. I just found a copy of an '83 owners manual on mbrood's site. It was linked on one of blueblood's threads. I just gave it a quick once over and it has the presures for the damping of the rear shock. This is what I was wondering about. So far I'm loving this bike. I've had a couple of problems with hot starts. Hopefully not the stator, but for the price I paid for this bike, she's worth it. Its like riding around in a lazy boy!!
  10. Hey there, just browsing through and saw another user from Newfoundland. I'm on the west coast too, Port Aux Basques.

  11. Just curious if anyone has the owners manual for an 84 venture standard. I just bought this bike and being relatively new to the venture scene, I just wanted to get a little more familiar with the bike. I've got some questions regarding the air ride adjustment (I think thats what its called). If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
  12. Hey all, Just picked myself up an '84 venture. Awesome job on the site. Its good to have a place to ask a few questions from time to time.
