OK..it wasn't really a "meeting"...more that we just crossed paths. On our ride from Ohio to Hilton Head Island last week, Eileen and I stopped to get gas somewhere in North Carolina. It was around lunch time and the station had a Subway sandwich shop inside so we were sitting there having a sandwich and cooling off a bit when 8 motorcycles pulled in. The riders gassed up the bikes and then came inside for something to drink. Turns out that 6 of them were Hell's Angels and 2 were wearing the Misguided colors. No issues at all. They stood near the door of the station and just talked and laughed and other than wearing the colors, seemed like normal folks out for a ride. What surprised me though was when I looked out at their bikes and saw that 7 out of the 8 were riding black Harley Road Glides. WOW....is my bike of choice also the bike of choice of the 1% clubs? Not sure how I felt about that.

No problem. Will see what Saturday brings but we may ride over and see you there. Sounds like fun.

Starting this over because I screwed up and didn't set it correctly to allow more than one selection. You can select more than one brand now. Please do not read anything into this poll. It is NOT because any changes to the VentureRider site are being considered. I'm just curious about what bikes other than the Yamaha Venture or Royal Star that you may own. I know that some of you own several Ventures, I'm not trying to find out how many Ventures you own but what OTHER brands you might own. So please just answer once for each brand that you own. I also know that I am not listing all brands. I know that some of you may own a Ural or a Moto Guzzi or whatever but I'm just wondering about the major brands.

RSV Miles per Gallon, Speeds, and Odometer Errors
Freebird replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
I had to look and see what the heck you were taking about. WOW...I posted that in 2008. I have to say that I'm not 100% sure that Avon has corrected the issue with the cracking sidewalls. Mine did crack and also from what I've read, the Avon on the rear of the bike now owner by Yammer Dan, has also cracked. Based upon the cracking problem, I would likely not buy Avon again until I have seen PROOF that the issue is resolved. -
Dave, Give this some thought. You and Robin come by the house. We will ride over there with you. Have dinner or whatever and then come back to the house. You can stay in the cottage and go back home on Sunday if you want to.

FANTASTIC. That is my very favorite of all the first gens and same as my first Venture. I often wish I had kept that one just to have.

You are 100% correct of course. I TOLD you it had been a LONG time. Forget everything I said.

Folks, I was an industrial electrician for more than 20 years. I worked with all types of loads and voltages from 12VDC control circuits to 7160 Volt AC motors and everything in between. Inductive loads and resistive loads. Now it's been more than 20 years since I worked as an electrician and I readily admit that I have forgotten a lot of stuff but I simply don't agree that increasing resistance will not increase amps. Of COURSE it will. I completely understand OHMS law but what is being left out here is that the source of power will strive to supply the stated voltage and therefore drive the amps higher. Take a simple light bulb as an example. A 100 watt light bulb and a 40 watt light bulb both have 120 volts supplied to them. The only difference is the resistive element of the bulb. The 100 watt bulb will draw more amps because it has a higher resistant element. Same thing with a standard electric strip heater. A 10,000 watt heater draws more amps than a 5000 watt heater simply because it has higher resistant coils. Both have 120 volts supplied to them but the increased resistance causes the 10,000 watt heater to draw more amps. So if you have a loose connection or anything else that increase resistance, the power source will adjust to continue providing 120 volts to whatever it is so as the resistance increases, so will the amperage. It is not in any way violating OHMS law. OHMS law still applies but as the resistance increases and the power adjusts to continue supplying the stated voltage, of course the amperage is going to increase. So yes, increased resistance usually WILL result in higher amperage unless the power supply is unable to provide the specified voltage.

I hope it turns out to be a very successful endeavor for you. I'll be sure to "LIKE" your page.

WOW....I had no idea. Eileen and I actually stopped at Tilley's HD in Statesville on the way home from Hilton Head today. There was no indication of any kind of this news. Really sorry to hear it.

We had a great time with the two of you. Got away about 7:00 this morning and rode approximately 400 miles to Beckley, WV. We are settled in here for the night and then 300 and some odd miles home tomorrow. Humidity at Hilton Head when we left this morning was 100%. Other than that, we've had great weather.

Thanks for the reminder Eck. Eileen and I have been riding all day and just checked into a hotel room. Remembering that this is the Remembrance Of day makes it even more special. My prayers for the families of those that we have lost.

Looking forward to visiting with you and your wife Joe.
-
OK...just a couple of quick pictures. Bike parked at hotel on the way down and a couple at a small marina on the island.
-
Looking forward to it Joe. Dinner or whatever you have in mind is fine with us. Bob, yes, we are maybe a half mile from the Sea Pines entrance. No motorcycles allowed. We have a Sunset Dinner Cruise on Thursday evening that departs from Harbour Town inside Sea Pines and will have to take a taxi. I wonder if you pulled up to that gate in a Slingshot if they would let you through?

Works for us. You say "we" so I assume your wife will be joining you? That would be nice. My cellular number is in my profile.

Where is a good vacuum inlet?
Freebird replied to IronMike's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would be seriously surprised if it is the valves. I would suspect maybe a bad coil. For whatever reason, it is not uncommon for the right rear coil to go bad. Many here, including me, had to replace that coil. -

Mike, Did it do this before you synched the carbs? -
Wish I had a clue what could be causing that Puc but I just don't. I promise that you will be in our prayers also. I can't even imagine you becoming abnormal.

Pulled a Freebird today- but I still have my mower..

Really sorry to hear of your ordeal Eck. You are pretty lucky still....it could have turned out much worse. Hope you heal quickly. Dang man....haven't I said to do as I say and NOT as I do. -
Pictures? Sorry...I had no idea that there are rules here. Whoever heard of such a thing. OK....will try to take some...sometime. Joe, we are hear until Saturday. If you get down this way give me a shout.

There are no sounds embedded in this site. If you are hearing something, then it is some type of trojan, virus or something.

No problem riding the bike to and on the island. There are a lot of private residential areas on the island where motorcycles are not allowed but no problem on the island in general. As far as what part we are on? Heck I don't know. South? Just off South Forest Beach Drive.

Well after not being able to get away and make it to the NY Rally, Eileen and I decided that we HAD to get away for a few days. We hopped on the bike and rode down to Hilton Head for a few days. Will be here until next Saturday. Doesn't look like we have any members here on the island but would be nice to meet you if you are. Took it nice and easy on the way down. Only about 800 miles but we made it a two day ride. Got a couple hundred miles of rain and then it got VERY hot for the last part of the trip but it is all good. The Road Glide did just fine. Gas mileage comparable to the RSV. Riding two up, pulling the Bushtec which is pretty heavily loaded and a fair amount of hills, averaged about 38 MPG running between 75 and 80 most of the time.

I use Google for all my domain registrations and they have been fine. For hosting, I use Knowhost.com for VentureRider.org and for Touringhogs.com. I use Site5 for a couple others. Both are excellent hosts. I agree that Frontpage is a good editor for beginners but I don't think it is on the market any longer and hasn't been for several years. It is fine if you can find a used copy somewhere.
