  1. Well, according to that map I may be wrong but I thought that open carry was allowed in Ohio IF you had a concealed carry permit.
  2. OK....here it is folks. Very nice Mike.
  3. email then to dnelson@venturerider.org and I'll resize and upload them for you.
  4. No pictures? Then it didn't happen. Congrats on the new bike Mike and of course you should still come to Maintenance Day.
  5. It has been invented already. I can't remember the brand right off hand but somebody here will probably remember. I know a couple of people have them already. I think @Motiv has a set.
  6. Looks great. Probably my favorite color. Wish they offered it when I bought my Glide.
  7. I still have the receipts but doubt I will turn them in. I turned them in for the 1,000 and got my certification, patch and etc. I think it was $40.00. It will cost another $30.00 I think to submit the 1500 mile ride. I just don't think I will. I do it for me and really don't need their recognition for that price.
  8. Everything is for sale.
  9. Folks.....I think he is OK. Maybe he was just having a bad day also. It happens to all of us. It's all good.
  10. Sorry folks, I usually try to just take any criticism in stride but sometimes I just let it get to me. Today I need to rant once AGAIN about ads being put in the forums. An ad was placed in a forum and I deleted it. Now we have had this discussion many times and there is even a sticky at the very top of the Watering Hole clearly stating that any ads place in the forums would be deleted. I also stated that this has been discussed enough that I wasn't going to send you a message letting you know it was deleted. I don't feel that I should have to take the time to send folks messages about something that has been clearly stated and discussed many time. Be that as it may, I still sometimes take the extra time to notify a member if they have violated this rule and let them know. Not always, it honestly depends upon the mood I'm in and how long the member has been around. Sometimes it will be a newer member who I decide maybe just didn't know better. Well today, an ad was put in the forums and I deleted it. In spite of the fact that it was a long time member who surely should have know better, I took the time to send him a message letting him know that it needed to be put in the classifieds and NOT in the form. He responded "Did you delete it" and I responded "yes". His next response was "couldn't have just moved it huh?" OK....uh...let's see...now why the he...I mean.....heck.....should I be expected to move it after this has been discussed time and time again. Why should I be expected to take the time to create an ad for somebody or move one just because you intentionally choose to do as you please? It's easy for me to move it to the classifieds. All I have to do is login as the user, create the ad, upload any pictures that are uploaded with it, figure out your zip code and ad it. Guess whether or not you want to use a PayPal address so that the "buy it now" will work. It would honestly only take me 10 or 15 minutes to move each of the ads that are placed in the forum. No problem I tell you what. Why don't we do away with the classifieds altogether. Why don't we also do away with all the forum areas like "first gen tech talk", "second gen tech talk", etc. Just have ONE forum and call it....hmmmm.....forum. We can just post everything there. Tech talk, jokes, chat, everything. We can list anything for sale there also. Then what I can do is when anybody posts a message, I can just copy it and email it to everybody and that way you won't have to worry about where you post something. Or maybe better, we can just keep all the different areas but I can just move each post as it comes in the the area where it should be. You can all just post where you want to. Same with the ads. Just post what you have for sale and in my spare time, I will create an ad for you in the classifieds. I think we should also do away with the search function. If anybody needs to search for something, just send me a message and I'll try to find it for you and send you the links. Would this make it easier for everybody? Sorry if this sounds pretty sarcastic.......it's just been one of those weeks. Here's the bottom line. I'm not moving another ad. I'm not sending a single person a message letting them know that a post has been deleted. No exceptions. I try hard to provide requested features, look into any problems, help members if they need instruction on how to upload an ad or how to post a message, etc. I won't apologize for asking that our handful of rules be respected.
  11. Rally registration forms are now available. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/venturerider-international-rally/98176-2015-international-rally-registration-forms.html#post894609
  12. I have not swapped to true duals and from what I've read, I probably won't. Almost everything I read points to loss of torque. I also have not wrapped the pipes and probably won't do that either. I I've done the other things.
  13. Thanks. That makes sense. I'm not sure that any of those really old links will work now.
  14. Earl, Where did that link come from. It's not working. I'm trying to figure out why not.
  15. OK folks...this smilie issue should be resolved. and...it should work with smilies or grumpies.
  16. Not viewed traffice is bots, search engines, etc. A Unique visitor is one who has not visited before I THINK. Not sure if that includes members who are not logged in yet or not. Or...it may not be people who have never visited but represents people who have different IP addresses. Do it doesn't count the same person twice as Unique.
  17. I have been asked a couple of times how the site is doing now as opposed to years past. Supporting membership has stayed fairly steady for about the past three years. We lose a few and gain a few but the number hasn't changed much. As for visits, activity, etc., here are some numbers for you. All of these are for the last full month of stats, January for the past 5 years. In reverse order. 18. You guys started off with some cool bikes. My first was a Honda Sport 50. I I think I was 14 and shared it with my little brother. That didn't last but a couple of months or so and I bought a Harley 250 Sprint. Have some good memories of both.
  19. The Ebay ads are just feeds from Ebay using keywords that relate to our bikes. They are NOT posted by our users. The links to Classifieds, Craigslist and etc. are posted by our members. It could be their own stuff or things they have run across that they feel might be of interest. Also, it a member posts an item in the classifieds, that ad is automatically added to that forum.
  20. Here is a very good write up by V7Goose on setting the float levels. I've done this myself and it is not difficult. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/24246-set-float-levels-quicksilver.html
  21. Yamaha absolutely provides a float height to measure. It is right in the service manual and not hard to do. Much better than the tube method in my opinion. This may not be true for the first gen but no doubt on the second gen.
  22. carb bowl gaskets You may not need them but it sure wouldn't hurt. swing arm seals Why? Are they leaking? valve cover gaskets Yep. crush gaskets for oil pan and rear diff and exhaust. Like already mentioned. Some feel that they must be changed every time. I never changed them and never had a leak. fork seals (not leaking, preventative?) I wouldn't touch them. I don't think I've seen any needing changed on a second gen yet. Questions: 1. Since I'll be in the carbs to check float levels should I replace the diaphragms too or all the rubber bits? I would certainly remove the bowls to check the floats. I don't think I've ever seen any on a second gen that were set correctly from the factory. Pulling the bowls is the most accurate way to check and set them. I seriously doubt that the diaphragms or any rubber bits need changing. 2. Do the head bearings have seals? Doesn't look like it in the parts list. They do not have seals. Most are underdressed from the factory. I heard a Yamaha service manage say that there was no reason to grease them because most of them are worn out and need replacing my 50,000 miles anyway. I think that was a dumb statement. The reason they need replacing by 50,000 miles is because they are usually not greased adequately. 3. Do they make a shim kit for the valves or do you need a measurement first? I agree with MiCarl. Find out if you need any first and then just get what you need. 4. What do you folks recommend for the fork oil weight manual says 5 but will 10 help with dive? I think that 10 weight is a good choice. I think that is what I used after i installed the Sonic Springs. I do NOT recommend the Progressive Springs for the second gen. Unless they have changed, the ones they sell for the Second Gen are the same ones that they make for the older Royal Stars which are a higher bike. Sonic Springs makes one specifically for the RSV and it is a stiffer rate than the Progressives. Fantastic spring. 5. Should I change the output shaft seal since the swing arm is out and shifter shaft seal or don't mess with them if not leaking? Don't mess with them. 6. Should I use Yamaha's coolant or will the orange dex cool that I use in all of my vehicles? As already said, any non-silica antifreeze will work. Many now are non-silica because a lot of cars require that also. Just look on the bottle. I think that the last time I changed it i used a Honda brand pre-mix that I got at the local auto parts store.
  23. Bring me a T-Shirt.
  24. I remember that guy. He even did a BMW. Have no idea who he was.
  25. You just don't get it do you. Maintenance Day! It's when you all show up and mow, weedeat, paint the house.....what did you THINK it was?
