  1. Since they are aftermarket, we really don't know how they are wired but typically the green will be ground. By the way, where are you from? Your profile info doesn't match your IP Address. Almost deleted you as a spammer.
  2. I have done the same thing. I bought an '86 I think it was off Ebay one time. Spoke to the owner a few times and was sure that he was an honest seller and the bike was as described. So I clicked buy it now on Ebay but told him I would pay in a day or two when I got there. Hooked the trailer up early one morning and drove from Oberlin, OH to somewhere NE of Buffalo, NY. I knew instantly when I pulled into his driveway and saw the bike sitting there that it was nowhere even close to how he described it. Total piece of junk. I got out of the truck and he came walking out of the house with a big grin on his face and said "so, what do you think". I said I think that you are either a liar or completely blind. Pointed out a dozen or so things that were terrible and made it clear that I wasn't pleased about spending a day and a couple tanks of gas for nothing. Got in my truck and drove home. You just never know until you get there. I have bought a few bikes off Ebay or Craigslist and etc. and most have been exactly as I expected. It happens though.
  3. That's correct. It's the links for "What's New" and under Quick Links, "Today's Posts".
  4. I understand what you are saying but no, I'm sorry that I don't know of a way to do that.
  5. This question about "What's New" just keeps coming up. "What's New" is exactly what it says...NEW things that you have not read. You can view the site several different ways. If you want to view "What's New" and want that to be the page that you start with, simply bookmark it so that is where the site opens for you. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=563494 If you want to see "Today's Posts" with the things you haven't read in bold, then bookmark this link. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=563511 If you want to find your OWN posts or threads, click on "My Search Links" in the small menu bar at the top. The friends list on the side is gone. Maybe it is something that I can add later but for now, you have to scroll to the bottom to the "Who's Online" box. People in your friends list with have a + after their name. Not as convenient but it's all there is right now.
  6. Yes, that is pretty cool.
  7. That is 100% correct.
  8. Folks, I'm tired. For more than 20 years I've had jobs that require a lot of travel. For more than 10 years I worked for a company that is based in Hong Kong and traveled all of North and South America with many trips to Hong Kong, China, England, Germany, Japan, Thailand and other places mixed in here and there. For the past 10 years, I've been at a job where the distances were shorter but the travel is even more frequent. I travel weekly in OH, MI, IN, KY, WV, PA and NY. Usually leave on Monday morning and return either Thursday night or Friday and that is week after week. I am fortunate to work for a very good company and I have no complaints about them but like I said in my opening remark....I am just tired. I want to spend more time at home. I want to sleep beside my wife every night. I don't want to drive miles and miles and miles. I am seriously considering making a job change. It will be a lot different but very close to home and no travel. Money will likely not be as good but has potential of being very close. A BIG negative is that I won't have the vacation time that I have now. At least not paid vacation. I think I can probably at least negotiate a deal so that I can get the same amount of time off but without pay. I could live with that. It's a hard decision and to be honest, more than a little scary. I ask your prayers for me doing the right thing. Thanks.
  9. When you post a thread in Meets and Greets, it does NOT automatically get copied to the watering hole. Meets and Greets is where it should be. and yes, when you post to a thread, it will no longer show up in the "what's new" until somebody replies. It is NOT new at the point that you post because you've already seen it. If you have email notifications turned on and you get a email that there is a new post to one your threads or replies and you click on that link and go to that thread or post then you have seen it. If you then go to What's New it's not going to be there. If you get an email that there is a reply and do NOT click on the link to the thread but just go to the forum and check "What's New", it will be there. Then when you go to that thread, it will again disappear from what's new. That's the way it is supposed to work. If you've seen it, it's NOT new.
  10. That makes no sense. They should show up in the forums, just not the "what's new" page.
  11. That's strange. I just looked and your post showed up for me under what's new.
  12. If you post to a thread, it will not show up under "what's new" until somebody responds. It's no longer new to you, you have already seen it. To find you OWN posts, click on "My Search Links" in the small menu bar at the top and then "My Posts" or "My Threads".
  13. Price comes down to table size and power among other things. About 12 years ago, before I took my current job, I bought a small laser for some ideas I had in mind. The one that I bought would handle material up to 18" x 24" and was 40 watts. I bought it new and paid around $12,000.00 for it. I did very little research though and quickly learned that it was very inadequate for what I had hoped to do with it. My plan was to etch chrome clutch covers and etc. among other things. I had no doubt that it would NOT cut metal but thought that it would etch chrome. I was wrong, I put my first chrome cover on it one night and ran it on the very highest power and the lowest speed. Not only did it take almost an entire night to complete the operation but when I got up the next morning and looked at it, there was not even a slightly visible mark on the chrome. 40 watts is simply not enough power to mark hard chrome. About all 40 watts is good for it cutting plastics or engraving on double sided engraving material, rubber stamp production, etc. I sold it after taking my job with Gemini. Now Gemini is the company that I still work for now. We manufacture dimensional letters and plaques that we wholesale to the sign industry. We have many manufacturing methods including water jets, CNC machines, injection molders, plastic sheet extruders, vacuum molders and yes, lasers. We have a number of 5,000 watt lasers that handles 4' x 8' sheets of aluminum, stainless, mild steel and etc. We regularly cut Aluminum from 1/4" to 1" and SS I think up to 1/2". It makes quick work of these jobs. Not exactly in the range of a hobbyist though. At least not this hobbyist. I don't have an exact price but I know that these 5,000 watt machines were in the $750,000.00 and up range. I realize that for what most of you here would want to do, a 5,000 watt machine would not be necessary nor would a 4' x 8' table but I think that any machine that will actually cut metal is going to run in the $250,000 and up range. Even used. Also, you have to be aware that there is some learning, a lot of learning, to using one of these things. You need to know something about graphics as you will need to create a vector file to cut or engrave a part. I used Photoshop and I can tell you that there was a steep learning curve for a person who had never used such software. To tell the laser if it should cut, etch, whatever is done with the line types that you use in the drawing. Then you have to know the power settings for various materials, thicknesses, etc. Don't think you are just going to drop a laser into your basement or garage and start making things unless you have some graphics software experience already. All that being said, it sure was fun.
  14. This thread is teetering right on the edge of being deleted. Please do not turn it into a political discussion.
  15. When did you order them? If it was just in the past few days, give it some time. Due to weather, some mail is slow now. If it's been a couple of weeks or more, PM me your address and I'll send you some again.
  16. Well, according to that map I may be wrong but I thought that open carry was allowed in Ohio IF you had a concealed carry permit.
  17. OK....here it is folks. Very nice Mike.
  18. email then to dnelson@venturerider.org and I'll resize and upload them for you.
  19. No pictures? Then it didn't happen. Congrats on the new bike Mike and of course you should still come to Maintenance Day.
  20. It has been invented already. I can't remember the brand right off hand but somebody here will probably remember. I know a couple of people have them already. I think @Motiv has a set.
  21. Looks great. Probably my favorite color. Wish they offered it when I bought my Glide.
  22. I still have the receipts but doubt I will turn them in. I turned them in for the 1,000 and got my certification, patch and etc. I think it was $40.00. It will cost another $30.00 I think to submit the 1500 mile ride. I just don't think I will. I do it for me and really don't need their recognition for that price.
  23. Everything is for sale.
  24. Folks.....I think he is OK. Maybe he was just having a bad day also. It happens to all of us. It's all good.
  25. Sorry folks, I usually try to just take any criticism in stride but sometimes I just let it get to me. Today I need to rant once AGAIN about ads being put in the forums. An ad was placed in a forum and I deleted it. Now we have had this discussion many times and there is even a sticky at the very top of the Watering Hole clearly stating that any ads place in the forums would be deleted. I also stated that this has been discussed enough that I wasn't going to send you a message letting you know it was deleted. I don't feel that I should have to take the time to send folks messages about something that has been clearly stated and discussed many time. Be that as it may, I still sometimes take the extra time to notify a member if they have violated this rule and let them know. Not always, it honestly depends upon the mood I'm in and how long the member has been around. Sometimes it will be a newer member who I decide maybe just didn't know better. Well today, an ad was put in the forums and I deleted it. In spite of the fact that it was a long time member who surely should have know better, I took the time to send him a message letting him know that it needed to be put in the classifieds and NOT in the form. He responded "Did you delete it" and I responded "yes". His next response was "couldn't have just moved it huh?" OK....uh...let's see...now why the he...I mean.....heck.....should I be expected to move it after this has been discussed time and time again. Why should I be expected to take the time to create an ad for somebody or move one just because you intentionally choose to do as you please? It's easy for me to move it to the classifieds. All I have to do is login as the user, create the ad, upload any pictures that are uploaded with it, figure out your zip code and ad it. Guess whether or not you want to use a PayPal address so that the "buy it now" will work. It would honestly only take me 10 or 15 minutes to move each of the ads that are placed in the forum. No problem I tell you what. Why don't we do away with the classifieds altogether. Why don't we also do away with all the forum areas like "first gen tech talk", "second gen tech talk", etc. Just have ONE forum and call it....hmmmm.....forum. We can just post everything there. Tech talk, jokes, chat, everything. We can list anything for sale there also. Then what I can do is when anybody posts a message, I can just copy it and email it to everybody and that way you won't have to worry about where you post something. Or maybe better, we can just keep all the different areas but I can just move each post as it comes in the the area where it should be. You can all just post where you want to. Same with the ads. Just post what you have for sale and in my spare time, I will create an ad for you in the classifieds. I think we should also do away with the search function. If anybody needs to search for something, just send me a message and I'll try to find it for you and send you the links. Would this make it easier for everybody? Sorry if this sounds pretty sarcastic.......it's just been one of those weeks. Here's the bottom line. I'm not moving another ad. I'm not sending a single person a message letting them know that a post has been deleted. No exceptions. I try hard to provide requested features, look into any problems, help members if they need instruction on how to upload an ad or how to post a message, etc. I won't apologize for asking that our handful of rules be respected.
