  3. Beautiful video. RandyA http://www.wimp.com/earthtimelapse/
  4. the Honda/Michael Bolton commercials. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am so tired of these commercials. Surely these "Holiday" commercials are about over. I am so tired of either muting the sound or switching channels, but I have had enough. RandyA
  5. If the forks are not leaking, you might be able to get away with putting Progressive springs in with the correct fluid level. You may also need to clean and grease the head bearings or maybe even replace them. When you put the new tire on, did you balance it? RandyA
  6. It would probably not be the next day, it would probably be in the next hour as they are monitoring what you are doing right this minute. RandyA
  7. I carry liability and uninsured/under-insured motorist on my 83. After Yammer Dan was nailed years ago and found out his under-insured ran out way before he got out of the hospital, after he was hit by some guy with no insurance, I upped my coverage. I personally could not comfortably ride my bike around the block without insurance, especially uninsured motorist. We have way too many around here running around without any insurance or driver's license. Even with upped coverage limits, my cost is about $140 a year thru Farmers insurance, who I also have my house and two cars. I figure if I can not afford about $12 a month, I don't need to be out on the bike. RandyA Just read your post you wrote as I was writing mine. Just check around with your local insurance agents, like Allstate or Progressive and get quotes. There are many out there, just call around.
  8. I agree with Jeff, especially if your garage already has electricity. I have a motion sensor on my garage and it is nice to have it turn on as I am getting close and I don't have to worry about turning it off. It has been out there for probably 20+ years and I think I have changed the bulbs a couple of times. RandyA
  9. Did you have it hanging from the ceiling by the airline? RandyA
  10. I have bought a couple of laptops off Craigslist and they have worked out well. This is a good time to look as some are upgrading after Christmas and you can get one cheap. The ones I bought have been cleaned and do not have any password problems, so I feel they are legit. I just shop local so I meet the seller. You just need to watch a couple of times a day to get one. 12. First of all bigclide, welcome to the forum and we hope you join and will not be shy. It will be the best $12 you will ever spend on your bike. As noted, it does sound like a fuel supply problem, but let me give you a little more info on the fuel pump. As noted, when you turn on the ignition, you should hear clicks for a few seconds. But, the trick is to leave the ignition on and use the kill switch near the right grip to turn off and then back on to repeat the fuel pump cycle to fill the carbs. If the bike has been setting, you may have to cycle the switch ten times to fill the carbs. Once the clicking slows down and stops, the carbs should be full. Some of these bikes are real sensitive to the start procedure and on mine, I do NOT touch the throttle and as I start cranking it over, I will slowly increase the choke until it starts. This way, I am not likely to flood the bike. Another thing these bikes are very sensitive about is the spark plugs. I run the cheap Autolites that I get at Advance Auto in mine and they run good. I have put 142,000 miles on mine since I have had it, so something must be OK. As said, please keep us posted and you will get a lot of help, up to and maybe including one of our members stopping by and helping you. RandyA
  13. That's one of those; "I really should not have done that", but it sure does crank up the adrenalin and the memories. We can ride a hundred thousand miles and sometimes that 1/4 or 1/2 mile is the one we will remember forever. What happened to the CBR600? My son and grandson had an old F2 that at one time had been a race bike and I will say, my 83 Venture is strong, but that CBR could walk away from me. RandyA
  14. I have to admit puc, I was wondering about that. Can't sleep either, huh? RandyA
  15. If you have a metal impeller water pump from and 86 up, it would be a good time to replace your 83 pump as they have the plastic impeller. RandyA
  16. We wear 3/4 or open face helmets. RandyA
  17. I have decided that if I ever win the Lottery that I am going to tell everyone that I am going to make two lists of names, one I who I want to help and one of who I would like to get rid of. So, if I win the lottery, you better know which list you are on. RandyA
  18. I have used the Chatterbox 20(I think) headsets that are tethered from rider to passenger for about the last 15 years. I have replaced different parts of them a couple of times, and they work OK, but I am looking for something else. I am looking at something different that I know nothing about, including Bluetooth itself. One of the things I am concerned about is battery life. Most of these note battery life around five hours. This was the big problem on the early Chatterbox units and they were not rechargeable, but I spent about a buck for an AAA battery holder and wired into the Chatterbox unit and Velcroed it on to the helmet and it works great. Chatterbox should have done this. My phone is Bluetooth capable and I believe my GPS is also. But as I have said, I know nothing about this. So, anybody got any suggestions? I will attack one that I looked at. RandyA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Multi-Interphone-headsets-1600-feet-3-riders-can-connect-/190653629607?_trksid=p2054897.l4276
  19. The thing that needs greasing is the bushing/bearing that goes into the speedometer that the cable sticks into. The only way you can grease it from the outside is to force grease around it and there is a fitting that someone on here sells that will screw onto the threads where the cable housing goes and has a grease fitting you can use with a grease gun. The way most people grease the speedometer is to take it out of the dash and look down inside the speedometer at this bushing and put grease on from the inside. You can use something like axle grease and put it around the top of the bushing and it will work its way down around the bushing. Do not use anything like WD40 as it will just wash any grease off this area and get worse. I have used a long small diameter rod and put a dab of grease on the end of it and smear it around the bushing several times and like I said, the grease will work its way down around the it. This tread shows the fitting I made a long time ago that you can make yourself. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36254&highlight=speedometer RandyA
