My concern with the 60 weight oil is when the bike is started up cold, it may be best to let the bike warm up and not rev the engine as too much oil pressure can cause the oil manifold to push out some allowing the orange oil ring to pop out on one side causing a big drop in oil pressure. RandyA

As I sit here on a cold December day, about 15 degrees below normal, it is real nice to read about a warm summertime event. I want to say that you and Tippy are the essence of what VentureRider.org is all about. You love to ride, you do not hesitate to stop and help others and you are a lot of fun. It was great to meet you at Vogal, "Yes Virginia, there really is a Vogal", and it was very interesting to talk to you. I would love to just take off and see what the country out there is all about. I think one of the best things you have done for meeting people is to put all the stickers on your bike, as immediately people know that you are traveling and you have been many places. I still think that if you are going to stay with a 1st gen that the 2nd gen trans and VMax rear would fit your needs perfectly with the 10% lower 1st and the 5% higher 5th, especially for trekking out in the boondocks like you do. I have a spare 2nd gen trans if you want to stop by here someday and swap it over. RandyA

dna, one upgrade on the two brush starters is to do the ground mod. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46890 If you will scroll down to the tech libraries, you may find several things that will help you out. RandyA -
Speaking of bugs and cold, some of the places I have been up north that gets really cold has some of the worst bugs. RandyA

It looks like he has not been on here in about six months and I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to him. He was always good for some very good information. RandyA

I have had very good success with CL, both buying and selling. As noted, there are some things you can do to make it better. I have sold some things that the buyer would never had much of a chance finding if I had only used the local trader, as they were not local. Don't blame CL, just learn to work around the scammers. Exhaust turn downs

Thanks Squidley on the tank cover offer, but he has a good one. As far as the rubber sleeve, one has a good one so I may just use it as a template. I will just look around for some rubber that will take the heat. Thanks guys, RandyA -
Once you get some riding time, you may want to do a needle adjustment on the slides. Several of us have had great luck in going from 40 mpg to 45 mpg and if cruising two up through the mountains, I have got as good as 50 mpg. This is also without loosing any power. Also, do you have your YICS still hooked up? If you do, blocking that off can help your bike run better. RandyA

Exhaust turn downs

Thanks again Andy. I'm sure you are correct on this one not being a Markland. My bike had the same light bar as Shane's when I got it almost eighteen years ago and since it had other options that were Markland, I just thought it might be Markland. RandyA -

You may be one of the lucky guys on your 85. With the serial number 1416, you are the closest I have ever seen to the 2nd gear fix with the new and improved thrust washer. I believe the fix was on 1413. I have an 85 with the serial number in the 5000+ range. If you look at the top of the page under VR History, you can get some better information on your bike. RandyA -

Thanks Andy. We have not tried them on the bike yet and I was wondering where the springs hook. The bike has what I think may be the Markland light bar and that is why we wanted the turndowns. I have attached a couple of pictures that show the light bar. RandyA -

If you do not have the battery sensor in the battery, the icon will come on. To bypass the sensor you will need to install a resistor. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489 RandyA -
Bled my left front caliper so I might take a ride today or tomorrow. Supposed to be 65 tomorrow. RandyA

Yes, the 1300 engines were part of the change to the 86 models along with the bigger bags. RandyA -
A while back we had a double murder here in Mountain City, TN, the most north east town in the state. It all started because a couple "defriended" this man's adult daughter and he and another guy broke into their house and executed them. He was just convicted of murder and his wife, the daughter and the other guy are also awaiting trial for murder and conspiracy for murder. These idiots did not realize that everything they were doing online was monitored and used against them in court. This story made national news and was dubbed "The Facebook Murders". This is what you get into with dealing with so many crazy people out there. Personally, I have never been on FB and don't intend to, but to some people, their whole lives evolve around Facebook. My bike got knocked over while parked in the street at work(the parking lot was gravel) and the only way I could prove who did it was a company video. I stopped by security and they showed it to me and they were then reprimanded. The company did not want to get involved because I was salary and the guy who's wife did it also worked for the company and he was union. But after I called the cop that was investigating it and told him that I saw the video, he want back to her and she admitted it. I had already been told by HR that they would not let the cop see the video. Their insurance settled for about $3,400 and then sold me the bike back for $200. RandyA

If there is a warning light blinking, there should be at least one of the icons on the CMS on. Just make sure that if you are on the center stand that the side stand is up. RandyA -
Linda says that the back of the bike looks nice. Uhhh, she wants to know what the rest of it looks like. RandyA
